  1. Bullpen: Demptster 1.45 WHIP, 3.97 ERA, 7.0 VORP Eyre 1.40 WHIP, 4.28 ERA, 5.6 VORP Howry 1.29 WHIP, 3.98 ERA, 6.7 VORP Novoa 1.36 WHIP, 4.16 ERA, 4.9 VORP Ohman 1.42 WHIP, 3.88 ERA, 6.5 VORP Williamson 1.29 WHIP, 3.43 ERA, 9.3 VORP Wuertz 1.36 WHIP, 4.10 ERA, 8.3 VORP With just these numbers can you pick out the $3M+ players from the $1M (or less) players? If those numbers are correct, it's going to be a looooooonngg year. Probably unfair on Dempster's numbers, as I imagine starting numbers are included in there, thus inflating the ERA significantly. that, or they think his 2006 will be more like the nearly 1000 bad innings he threw from 1998-2004 than the 60 or whatever it was good innings he threw last year. as i've said before, i'm concerned about this bullpen...much more so than the rotation. dempster has the potential to really be bad. hopefully he found a niche as a reliever because he's never been much good as a starter.
  2. if it makes anybody feel better, nolasco (eight) and pinto (thirteen) are in the marlins' top 30.
  3. well, you do have sample size on your side. seriously, all you guys that like to make snide, smart ass remarks about moneyball, beane and OBP are just making yourself look stupid. NOBODY includes that stuff in their posts more than you. either you're imagining everybody mentioning beane, moneyball and james in their posts or you're just reading your own posts, which are littered with references to those things. enough playing the 'woe is me, i'm the poor guy in the minority on every issue that everyone hates...i'm such a martyr' card. no one's buying it. lol. glad you didn't get personal, and hendry's done several things wrong... ah, the final piece of your typical posting plan. 1. determine what the majority opinion on an issue is. 2. take the opposite of that opinion in snide, quick, baseless, inflammatory remarks. usually add a rolling eyes smiley. 3. wait for someone to call you out on your post that you have to know is ridiculous and has no support. 4. claim that your post is just being attacked because your a rogue, independent minded, outside the box, free thinker who doesn't fall into everybody else's follow the leader mentality. 5. wait for someone to call you out on that. 6. whine about being personally attacked (even though you technically personally attacked everyone who you claim to be part of the group think) and usually throw it out there that the mods are allowing the personal attack because the poster 'attacking' you is part of the in crowd. 7. shrug it all off because, well, that's just what you do. someday we'll see the err of our ways and realize you were right. so is the life of a martyr. This is the kind of post that really turns me off of this board. Tim should change the name from NSBB to the "Billy Board". I'll admit, Beane is onto something, but it is far from a perfected philosophy. Statheads like to spit out a stat and call it gospel, all the while, there are numorous variables that play into that stat that are considered "unimportant".   thanks for proving my point. and three eye rolls...always adds quite a bit of strength to your argument. two is good, but three...that really seals the deal.

  5. oh, and as long as you want to play that game... 162 games and a .326 obp isn't too impressive, but hendry can do no wrong.

  7. it's pretty clear the author was more interested in being funny than informative or accurate.
  8. speaking of which, you have beaten the horse dead six times over and pounded the dirt on which it laid until you were half way to china...all in the span of three pages.
  9. i don't think anyone brings up moneyball in a higher % of their posts than you. maybe that's why it seems like you're always reading about it on here.
  10. my goodness, am i sick of hearing about that stupid steal. people act like the red sox stole their way to 100 wins and a world series that year. enough already. of course, the 'yay for steals!' crowd seems to forget that he was pinch running for a guy who got on via a WALK.
  11. yeah, his 1.17 whip last season (9th in the NL, right between zambrano and beckett) was awful. ugh, i wish he were dead.
  12. wow, marte has the chance to be named by BA as THREE organizations' #1 prospect for 2006. impressive...i think.
  13. if weaver's really interested in a one year deal, the brewers should jump all over it. could get the team to 90 wins, but if he doesn't you could trade him at the deadline.
  14. ok, those were gigantic pics. how about just the links... got these over the weekend at the i-cubs fanfest... reggie seaver carew aparicio
  15. when did hairston whine about playing time last year? and if he did whine, would it have been in the papers? :-k
  16. how many signs did he miss last year? i can't find that stat (SM...MS?) on espn's stat page. also, how were is SM numbers compared to walker's? I wouldn't bust anyone's balls for that one. The whole damn team missed signs like crazy last year. It was sickening, and it got worse as the season went along. I wish they would keep stats for that, it would have further highlighted how pathetic last year's team was at times. yeah, but he's basing his statements solely on a couple quotes in the media. he has no idea how many signs he missed and how many everyone else missed. it's also pretty obvious that dusty finds ways to keep guys he doesn't like on the bench, and i'm not so sure this wasn't the case with hairston and the missed signs.

  18. i never saw sammy sign much during ST, but one day he sat on the grass and signed like 10 balls while he stretched and then threw them into the crowd. i'll have to take a picture of my den and post it...the wife is going to regret giving me control over that room! i'll be getting reggie jackson, carew, seaver, and aparicio this weekend at the i-cubs fanfest.
  19. There's no way the Brewers can win 95 games. That being said, the Cards are still the favorites and the Cubs need them to come down to the 90-win plateau. The Cubs and the Cards have a chance of winning 90 games, but not the Astros or Brewers and certainly not the Pirates or Reds. i don't know how you can say there's 'no way' the brewers can improve by 14 games, but that the cubs 'have a chance' to improve by 11 games.
  20. Couldn't agree with you more. They were at .500 last year, honestly what have they done so well this offseason to push them into WC or Division champs? the cubs were below .500 last year, and what have they done to push them into contention for the WC or the division?
  21. but w/ no title to show for it. :D as long as we're talking draft date, i'd like to put in a request for it NOT to be from 3/17-3/23, as i'll be at ST. obviously, i'd do my best to make accommodations if it had to be during those dates. I'm still trying to decide which week I'm going. But at least now I know which week NOT to go. :) damn right.

  23. seriously. i love the guy, but at this point, i wish hendry would just trade him. i don't know if i've ever seen an untouchable 26 year old 7th/8th starter. at least the cubs would be trading high for once.
  24. too bad he's too big of a puss to actually play in the league.
