  1. i'd have guessed the brewers would get more than that. glad i have prince on my fantasy team. :D
  2. welcome to the league...one of your top keepers just got traded from a great hitters' park to a hitting graveyard. ouch! i realize that i just jinxed myself into blalock being traded to florida, seattle or washington, by the way.

    Bored...

We've always made pre-draft deals before. See the machinations that Adam made last year to improve draft position.... Now I agree that this might be a bit early. ;) yeah, i traded my ass off to get matsui. and i traded for sheets, lee and ollie. hope my title won't be taken away...
  4. just like that willis guy...hey, you gotta take chances!

nah...i think i'll be able to nab howry w/ my late first round pick.
  6. sweeney at 900 k sure beats mabry at 1 mil.
  7. What production did we have in CF last year? Did we upgrade? YES. What production did we have in RF last year, will we upgrade? YES. Did will totally whoop the Cards and Stros last year? YES. Did we loose to bad teams last year? YES. Making some changes, getting rid of a few players, and adding a few different guys to our core is going to bring some positive things next year. I have a good feeling, I'm sorry I just have a good feeling and that's as much as I can argue right there. I do think we need another pitcher though, you can't count on Wood and we need another strong starter to compliment Zambrono and Prior. who cares what we did against the cards and the astros in a limited amount of games? clearly the cubs weren't better than them, regardless of what they did over the span of 15 games or whatever. i'm not doubting that pierre is an upgrade over patterson, or that bradley/wilkerson is an upgrade over burnitz. but the cubs finished in fourth place twenty some games behind the cardinals...i don't think that they are a few minor upgrades away from leaping over three teams.
  8. I think they can. If it's true they had about $20-$22 mil before Pierre then they still have around $15 mil salary. If you move Patterson, Walker, Williams ect. . for your other trades then you have another $5-$7 mil added to that. We could get a power RF and still get another starter. who's that power RF gonna be? i've all but given up hope of dunn/abreu? what other power RF's are out there to be had? it's not like there's a giles or vlad sitting there on the FA market ripe for the picking. i could have lived w/ two B outfielders (wilkerson, bradley, etc). i could have lived w/ a C outfielder (pierre) coupled w/ an A outfielder (dunn, abreu). i'm not so hot on a B + C (ie pierre + bradley, pierre + wilkerson). I hear ya, but I'd be happy with Pierre - Wilkerson so long as we get a Washburn - Millwood and never have Neifi as a starter. i don't think washburn's going to make me feel any better about the lack of offensive production in the OF. i don't think the cubs need to get another starter at this point.

  10. isn't walker for bradley kind of a wash? especially when you consider that neifi could be the 2b? and i don't know why LA would want walker anyway... i'd have been happy w/ wilkerson + bradley or pierre + abreu/dunn/some other stud. but i don't know if pierre + kearns/bradley/wilkerson is enough...
  11. i had kind of come around a bit on furcal, but, at the same time the contract he got from la was crazy. i hope you're right about pierre playing well in a contract year...hadn't thought about that. but i wonder if it will be a contract year for long...hendry could try and lock him up for a while before the season starts.
  12. the problem is, i don't think the cubs can get a stud rf. and that's the only way i'd feel all right w/ pierre in center.
  13. albuquerque's gonna have a pretty solid rotation.
  14. i've heard other people say that, and i don't understand why. won't the slow grass keep his slap hits from getting through?
  15. LOL. I'm sitting this one out. if by 'sitting out' you mean making 10 posts.
  16. how are you not banned? Huh? I've seen the trolling accusation thrown out various times. I commended you. Ligthen up and be positive. yeah, that's what you did.
  17. he didn't have an argument, so it's impossible for me to twist it. his 'argument' was 'you gotta take chances'. my argument was that you didn't...there are other CF on the market and the cubs have other leadoff possibilities. he hasn't came back w/ anything for that other than 'pierre could be good again'. i'm not comparing gonzalez to pierre, i was just making an argument like he did...w/ nothing backing it up other than 'you gotta take chances'.
  18. If Pierre returns to a .360 OBP next year and steals at a 75 percent success rate -- is that acceptable? I'm not saying he will ... just wondering what you'd think about those numbers. say he does put up those #'s. it won't matter anyway because w/o good prospects to trade w/, the cubs are going to have jones, burnitz, wilson in rf, and the team will struggle to win 85 games. then pierre bolts for 7 year deal from the yankees and the cubs have nothing to show for trading 2-3 very good prospects. so no, that wouldn't be acceptable. Wait a second, if we give up Nolasco and Pinto, we won't have "good prospects" to trade for Bradley, Wilkerson (not necessarily that I want those two in RF, but it's very possible) Kearns or another RF? I guess I didn't realize Nolasco and Pinto were our only trading chips. they're not, but i don't know if pierre + kearns is going to be good enough to win the division. if you get pierre, you have to get an elite rf, in my opinion.
  19. And what if it's .326 like it was last year? That's the chances you have to take. At least it's about .200 points better than Patterson right? ;) why is that a chance you have to take? that makes no sense. He's posted .378, .374, and .361 too. and a .332. what's your point? yeah, he could be a decent leadoff guy, but there are only a few one year rentals that i give up the top 3 minor league arms for -- and slappy mcgee ain't one of them. and unless you're finding a way to get dunn, abreu or manny (w/o your top minor league arms, who you traded for your dreamboat, once in a lifetime, 'prototypical leadoff guy, mind you), this team isn't going anywhere next year anyway. so what's the point in giving up the farm for a guy that can help you win 81 games instead of 79? Sorry you can't comprehend my point (taking chances). Pretty simple concept. This team isn't going anywhere next year?? That's a great attitude. gee, i hope the cubs can fight through my bad attitude to win the world series next year. i don't get your point because you don't have one. all you said, was, 'you have to take chances'. and i say, no you don't. you don't hav anything to back up your 'gotta take chances' claim. should the cubs trade hill, pinto, paw, pie, nolasco and everybody in the system for alex gonzalez? no? well, you gotta take chances, and that's the extent of my argument. i win.

  21. whose to say that pierre will be a cub in 07?
