  1. yeah, but wagner's way, way better than eyre.
  2. i'd rather just stick w/ walker/cedeno...that way you don't have to give up any players. throw furcal's $ at giles (brian). there's really no need to trade walker to get an impact rf when you can just sign giles.
  3. that would not be good for my fantasy team.
  4. Something else to consider is attitude. While BH with the I-Cubs, I had the "pleasure" of meeting him a few times. He was an arrogant , and I was overjoyed to hear he was dealt. From what I know, Neifi has always been a very well-liked teammate. well, if he was rude to you a couple times, he obviously had a terrible attitude. Was that really necessary? Why the snide comment? I'm not the only one who ever had encounters with BH that said he had a bad attitude and was extremely arrogant. I have heard other fans as well as former teammates say the same thing. Since you have had no personal encounters with him, he obviously is a choir boy. yeah, that's what i said. Exactly. ?

  7. wow, neifi's career .681 OPS makes him the toast of chicago. bobby hill's career .693 OPS gets him run out of pittsburgh. baseball's funny sometimes.
  8. but, hey, it's only the crazy pessimists from this board that don't like what the cubs are doing. everyone else obviously thinks hendry is great.
  9. what a great night in the eyre household. i heard hendry's also sending him a gift basket full of hundreds.
  10. thanks goodness...that swiss cheese infield must have cost the cubs at least 45 wins last season.
  11. who'd have thought you could spend $10+ mil and have such mediocrity to show for it? :pukel:
  12. and while we're at it, i'm pretty sure i'd rather have bj ryan or wagner than dempster + eyre. does hendry know that you can only have 25 guys on the roster?
  13. $10+ mil on neifi, rusch, eyre or $10 mil on giles? i think hendry made the right call. three guys can catch the ball better than one.
  14. how about just sign giles so you don't have to give up players. cripes.
  15. What bidding war? Between the Cubs and Braves? If he reports are to be believed, the Yanks and others are involved in the Giles sweepstakes. I'd say that's very different than the Furcal situation. The Mets are involved. If you are willing to even consider a 5/50 for Furcal, but won't get in on the Giles talks while the numbers are still in the 3/30 range, you're just a plain old incompetent GM. exactly. why is 5/50 ok for a career .757 OPS, but 3/30ish is not ok for a career .955 OPS? nonsense. i guess hendry only wants to get in a bidding war if it's against himself. Because OPS isn't all there is in baseball. Because defense is important up the middle. See Chicago White Sox. Because Furcal is an excellent defensive player at an important defensive position who's just coming into his prime while Giles doesn't play an important defensive position and is past his prime. homeruns are important in the lineup. see chicago white sox. there's no way furcal's defense is that much better than cedeno's to make up for the 200 point difference in OPS between he and giles. it's not like the alternative to not signing furcal is leaving the ss position open and the cubs playing w/ 8 guys on the field.
  16. The two main rumored targets for leadoff are Furcal and Pierre. Walker had a better OBP than both of them in 2005. Not to mention that he'll make signifcantly less money than Furcal and at least $1.5 million less than Pierre. His career OBP is the exact same as Furcal. Get an impact bat and let Walker leadoff. If you can get an impact bat AND a legitmate leadoff hitter, great. If not, the impact bat should be the priority. it's ridiculous. walker (2b) + cedeno (ss) + giles (rf) or furcal (ss) + cedeno (2b) + encarnacion/j jones/floyd (rf) the first option is soooo much better than the second it's ridiculous. not to mention the fact that the second option would include a long term, big money contract and the possibility of giving up talent in a trade. it's beyond me how hendry can't justify giving giles $10 mil/year, but he has no problem giving that kind of money to a far inferior player (and one that doesn't fill a hole in the field).
  17. What is the conspiracy? that he's the board martyr and we're all trying to bring him down.
  18. seriously. it's a winter tradition -- hendry signs a reliever that will eventually fall apart to a three year deal.
  19. giles would never dress up like a superhero at a hockey game. giles = not a good clubhouse guy.
  20. Of course, he's won a division title in every season of his career. and you can be damn sure that he catches the crap out of that ball.

  22. does this officially end the 'leicester for closer' bandwagon?
  23. i've been on the wilkerson wagon since last offseason. i'd soooo rather have him than pierre.
  24. i wouldn't have a problem w/ that combo at all. the problem is, the cubs seem dead set on trading walker. and if walker somehow did stay, i feel like like baker would want to play neifi and his good glove over cedeno to offset walker's perceived defensive weaknesses.
