  1. Has he learned nothing from last off season? Chemistry is such overrated garbage. Tell the 05 White Sox, 04 Red Sox, 03 Marlins, 02 Angels and the 96-2000 Yankees that. why? do you know for a fact that they had great 'chemistry'? The empirical evidence suggests they got along well, which helped their performance as a team. um...sure. and this year's cub team supposedly got along great (or so empirical evidence suggests), and they sucked big time. They didn't have the talent to compliment the camaraderie. great self-sealing argument. What's that suppose to mean?? Never seen the term "self-sealing." Learn something new everyday.... your argument -- those teams won because of great 'chemistry' -- is bullet proof. there's no way for anyone to prove it wrong, but there's also no way for you to prove it correct. in other words, it's not a good argument.
  2. because nomar's backup would be cedeno, who i wouldn't mind see getting forced into the starting role. that, and the alternative may be grossly overpaying for furcal. i'd rather pay nomar $4 mil, have him get hurt and miss four months, and let cedeno play than give furcal a 4/$45 type deal.

all your draft picks are certainly going to help you narrow the gap between you and the league's best team. :D
  8. the last couple of years it's like hendry tries to copy whatever the last ws champ did. the red sox were such a close knit, team chemistry delight he got rid of all the bad attitudes. the white sox apparently had their success w/ pitching and defense, so that's what hendry wants to do.
  9. hendry on rusch... :pukel: :pukel:

agreed. if a hitter has a bad game, he's got 5-6 more during the week to make up for it. if a sp has a bad game, you're screwed. strive for mediocrity with starting pitching...i'll take a week of 9 point starts from all my guys.

  15. yeah, the bunting critique is ridiculous. he's not juan pierre...get over it, people.
  16. whew on burnitz. get moving on walker, please. become a free agent, glendon. don't know how i feel about corey...
  17. uh-oh....guzman = patterson?? release him.
  18. i have no problem going after wagner/ryan. people seem suspect of wagner's age, but i'm more suspect of dempster's mediocre pre-2005 career. people seem sold on dempster, but iffy on wagner...i can't figure that out. i hope the cubs don't regret giving dempster three years...
  19. Q: Come on, it's been a week -- who was the celebrity who showed up at your Denver signing? --Kenny L., Boulder, CO SG: The one, the only ... Pratyush Buddiga! You might remember him as the winner of the 2002 Spelling Bee (as well as one of the stars of my running diary of that event) -- he was the kid who destroyed everybody, outlasted The Hyperventilator and even spelled the word "oubliette," the fancy word that defines Buffalo Bill's pit in "Silence of the Lambs." PUT THE LOTION IN THE BASKET! Anyway, he's a high school student and budding sportswriter now -- he showed up with his father and brother (the 2003 runner-up), and we even ended up taking a picture (as you can see on the right). Good guy. And you wonder why I'm keeping this book tour going.
  20. almost as good as jeter's catch. the only difference is that jeter's catch came in a more important game.
  21. why does that one guy (troy) start fake crying for a second before getting himself together? it's like he didn't want his friend to out-fan him with all the tears, so decided to try and muster some up...couldn't do it, so he just went back to talking semi-normal.
  22. gotta hand it to selig. he's really laid down the law on two major issues in baseball -- open roofs and steroids. oh, wait....
  23. i thought everyone wanted to play for the cardinals. :-k
  24. isn't anyone going to say anything about the suggestion of juan pierre playing rf for the cubs? ouch (once for the offense he'd 'provide' at that position) and ouch (once for the defense he'd 'provide' at that position).
  25. stros in five.
