  1. If Choi is struggling with 15 homers, hitting .257 with a .336 OPB in about 300 ABs, I'd better never see you shower praise on Neifi Perez again. Do you follow the Dodgers at all or just read the stats?? Choi's a part-time player. He doesn't face left-handed pitchers and Tracy has a tendency to sit him against guys like Clemens and Oswalt. Neifi's faces all comers, and I've said all along that he's a middle of the pack SS. Can't see how that's "praise." Nice spin though. :o Put Choi in there every day and his stat line wouldn't look as good. Of course, it's about average for a 1b where it stands. or his numbers could improve w/ more consistent playing time.
  2. This is the only thing Steriods might have done to improve Barry Bonds' game. Durability. If he took steriods, as he likely did, they impacted his game minimally outside durability. There is no denying he is the best hitter in baseball, and maybe the best hitter ever. but his durability is what will help him break some of the most important records in baseball history. how the hell is that a minimal impact?? i'd say it's the impact.
  3. He's always used a bat shorter and lighter than the normal ones used by sluggers, and still chokes up on it. Amazingly fast bat speed + unbelivable pitch recognition = best hitter of our era. if steroids didn't help him, then why did he take them? from some of you guys' analysis, you make it seem they're totally irrelevant to his success. he must have felt they were doing some good.
  4. And...gamecenter is not showing Turnbow with a blown save. Curious. Your Texas boys are tearing it up tonight, though. blown saves go up over night. still a pretty bad day/night for me. i had closers blow two wins for my starters, and wakefield lost a QS...at least johnson threw up 6 decent innings. i'd like to see teix & blalock get another ab...
  5. i hate, hate, hate, hate, hate the cubs. i've never hated them more than i do right now. as if the most pathetic [expletive]-filled season of ineptitude wasn't enough to torture me with, the only time they show the slightest bit of guts is when it screws my fantasy teams. i can only remember a handful of times when they have come back when down in the ninth inning...and FOUR of those times have been against mesa and turnbow. FOUR! go to hell, cubs!
  6. If you like getting autographs, try Fitch Park. The minor league guys were more than accomodating. Take plenty of sun screen. Very few of the seats at HoHoKam are in the shade. I'd really go with the hotel package. While you may pay a little more, the ease of having your tickets purchased in advance and waiting for you at the hotel is really nice. Also, the seats we received were great! i've never tried the hotel package/tickets thing you're talking about...sounds like a decent deal. we stay at the same hotel every year...it's a manageable distance from all the parks. i always get tickets online as soon as they go on sale...the games at hohokam are always the hardest to get. fitch is great...you can watch up to four games at once and see tons of minor leaguers. like vance said, most of them are very accommodating for autograph requests and nosy fans with questions. :D it's also fun just to watch them do drills, take BP, interact with each other, etc. sorry to say it, but hohokam is by far the worst park in the cactus league. the food's bad, the crowds are huge and the parking sucks. all the other parks are pretty good. there are a bunch of good restaurants in the area that cater to the baseball fans. if anyone has any specific questions, pm me.
  7. his mouth is activated also. when he was asked about the congressional investigation into steroids, his response to reporters is 'how much money have you donated to hurricane relief?' um...yeah...so about those steroids you took.... No, not exactly. He said that he felt that Congress should focus on more important things. Later, he talked about the hurricane relief. I'm no fan of Bonds, but let's not skew the facts when talking about him. sorry...i left out a couple steps in the barry bonds 'change the subject ASAP and make it look like the media is the bad guy' plan. so i used the cream and the clear...that guy from the pawtucket observer hasn't donated to the red cross yet! i'm really surprised that everyone is sticking up for bonds. is it really a good argument to say 'well, all steroids would do is help him hit the ball farther.' isn't that the name of the game??? that's like saying, 'well, all steroids did for ben johnson was make him run faster' or 'all steroids did for that powerlifter was make him lift more weights.' come on! he certainly does have a quick bat...no doubt about it. but there's no convincing me that steroids, hgh, whatever, didn't improve his game. if it didn't, there's no way he would risk his life, career, reputation, place in history, livelihood, name, etc just to see what steroids were all about. it helped him, he knew it, that's why did them and continued to do them. yeah, steroids haven't helped him any...he's only a physical specimen at 40+.
  8. hey, take the night off, jeff kent.
  9. son of a bitch...two shitty closers blow two wins for my starters today. how's this for a swing...timlin gives up a two run triple to gomes (5 points for you), charging a run to wakefield (minus points for me), costing him a win (minus 4 for me) and costing him a QS (minus 7 for me). nice job, dick! and of course the cubs show some spine when it could cost me a save.
  10. then he was pretty stupid to take em before.
  11. it's about the best vacation you'll ever have!
  12. his mouth is activated also. when he was asked about the congressional investigation into steroids, his response to reporters is 'how much money have you donated to hurricane relief?' um...yeah...so about those steroids you took....
  13. ??? how can you say that? if he used steroids (and he probably did), he's a cheater. i don't know how you can say he's the best player of our life time if he's known to take steroids.
  14. [expletive], you just scored like 18 points in a one minute span. at least patterson gave up the bonds homer. i hate bonds, by the way. what a whiny, obnoxious cheater.
  15. yeah, i bet you're kicking yourself for pointing him out to me when he was available. if it makes you feel any better, the way i was scouring for FA catchers, i would have nabbed him eventually. i have a feeling blalock's going to have one of his 3-25, 7 k, 2 gidp, 3 error weeks, so i need shelton to pick up his slack. you suck, fernando rodney.
  16. heh...i guess the book's not out on him yet. lost the w and the qs, got a loss, but at least you get a cg. i'm just glad you didn't get the no-no...
  17. whew! you're still getting a ton of points from your SP's tonight...
  18. damn you, aj burnett, you give up a hit RIGHT now! my curse worked on livan, but it was bonds that ended it...that didn't make me very happy.
  19. hernandez and burnett both have no-hitters going.
  20. What a dreadful beginning for me! The pitching could not have gone much worse. James popped up this afternoon after it was announced he was recalled by ATL. Serves you right for beating me to Zimmerman. :D and guzman, who eventually brought me teix. :D but that's weird that he popped up and didn't sit on waivers...that's what happened when hill got called up...i had to put in a claim for him and wait for a while... :? anyway, there were times that i was frustrated that i couldn't catch you in points or match your place in the standings, but it sure came in handy when it came to making waiver claims. Some seem to sit on waivers and some don't. Perhaps it has to do with the time of week they're added to the DB. And yes, you snatched several guys from me this year because of the waiver priority. When I was battling injuries earlier in the year, you grabbed a couple of guys before I could. Wah, poor me. ;) btw - is it too late to sub Bonderman out for Liriano? yep. the time to do that was 11 hits and 7 earned runs ago. :D

  22. if the cubs throw blanco's wet noodle bat out there over barrett because of some stupid crap like cera, i'm not going to be happy.
  23. some people want to be able to say 'told you so' after giles signs elsewhere, so they have to inject their thoughts on the matter into every thread.
  24. not a bad first day for me. sure would help if minny could get some runs so street could get a save. bonderman was the disaster start i needed to even out the starts a little bit. plus, batista was about as bad as a closer can be. your points should go down quite a bit overnight... and damn you for picking up james! when did he pop up? i've been checking for him pretty regularly over the past two months.
  25. i'd maybe give him a .270/.335/.400, but, yeah, i think a lot of people are expecting a little much out of him. I would like to know why so many of you are expecting him to do so much worse next year. because if he put up these #'s over the course of a full season, he'd contend for a batting title and be one of the top 20 hitters in major league baseball. maybe i've got a negative attitude, but i just don't see that happening. i don't get too caught up in such a small sample size. unlike some others on here, i'm not ready to call him the next tony gwynn based on, what, 50 games? just like i'm not ready to write off rich hill or welly.
