  1. ??? how can you say that? if he used steroids (and he probably did), he's a cheater. i don't know how you can say he's the best player of our life time if he's known to take steroids.
  2. [expletive], you just scored like 18 points in a one minute span. at least patterson gave up the bonds homer. i hate bonds, by the way. what a whiny, obnoxious cheater.
  3. yeah, i bet you're kicking yourself for pointing him out to me when he was available. if it makes you feel any better, the way i was scouring for FA catchers, i would have nabbed him eventually. i have a feeling blalock's going to have one of his 3-25, 7 k, 2 gidp, 3 error weeks, so i need shelton to pick up his slack. you suck, fernando rodney.
  4. heh...i guess the book's not out on him yet. lost the w and the qs, got a loss, but at least you get a cg. i'm just glad you didn't get the no-no...
  5. whew! you're still getting a ton of points from your SP's tonight...
  6. damn you, aj burnett, you give up a hit RIGHT now! my curse worked on livan, but it was bonds that ended it...that didn't make me very happy.
  7. hernandez and burnett both have no-hitters going.
  8. What a dreadful beginning for me! The pitching could not have gone much worse. James popped up this afternoon after it was announced he was recalled by ATL. Serves you right for beating me to Zimmerman. :D and guzman, who eventually brought me teix. :D but that's weird that he popped up and didn't sit on waivers...that's what happened when hill got called up...i had to put in a claim for him and wait for a while... :? anyway, there were times that i was frustrated that i couldn't catch you in points or match your place in the standings, but it sure came in handy when it came to making waiver claims. Some seem to sit on waivers and some don't. Perhaps it has to do with the time of week they're added to the DB. And yes, you snatched several guys from me this year because of the waiver priority. When I was battling injuries earlier in the year, you grabbed a couple of guys before I could. Wah, poor me. ;) btw - is it too late to sub Bonderman out for Liriano? yep. the time to do that was 11 hits and 7 earned runs ago. :D

  10. if the cubs throw blanco's wet noodle bat out there over barrett because of some stupid crap like cera, i'm not going to be happy.
  11. some people want to be able to say 'told you so' after giles signs elsewhere, so they have to inject their thoughts on the matter into every thread.
  12. not a bad first day for me. sure would help if minny could get some runs so street could get a save. bonderman was the disaster start i needed to even out the starts a little bit. plus, batista was about as bad as a closer can be. your points should go down quite a bit overnight... and damn you for picking up james! when did he pop up? i've been checking for him pretty regularly over the past two months.
  13. i'd maybe give him a .270/.335/.400, but, yeah, i think a lot of people are expecting a little much out of him. I would like to know why so many of you are expecting him to do so much worse next year. because if he put up these #'s over the course of a full season, he'd contend for a batting title and be one of the top 20 hitters in major league baseball. maybe i've got a negative attitude, but i just don't see that happening. i don't get too caught up in such a small sample size. unlike some others on here, i'm not ready to call him the next tony gwynn based on, what, 50 games? just like i'm not ready to write off rich hill or welly.
  14. well, a long season is nearly over, and the two teams with the most regular season points face off for the title. the big factor this week will be what teams are in contention. some vets on non-contending teams may lose time to youngsters (thankfully not with the cubs, whew!). some guys are just playing out a meaningless schedule, while other guys are on teams fighting for their playoff lives. GHS has cano, matsui, street, wakefield and wagner playing for the postseason, while nsbb has abreu, berkman and burnett in the postseason hunt. one thing that may hurt nsbb is the cardinals' early clinch...who knows how much action pujols, izzy and carpenter will see down the stretch as they play out the rest of their schedule. both teams made some roster moves for the championship...dusty baker...er...tim sits liriano and cain in favor of more seasoned vets. but he may give the nod to the youngster gomes over damon and guillen. ghs doesn't buy into the 'go with what got you here' adage as he unceremoniously dumps gonzalez and benches overbay in favor of delucci and cano. place your bets now...should be a good battle!
  15. i'd maybe give him a .270/.335/.400, but, yeah, i think a lot of people are expecting a little much out of him.
  16. that would be correct. the hand sanitizers go into the championship fresh off a statement game....should be near 350 points! i have some tough decisions too...i released a slumping/platooning gonzalez for delucci. i don't like having three rangers in my lineup, but i also don't like gonzalez playing four times a week. also, i'm going with a red hot cano (47 points this week) over the more consistent overbay, who may start sitting in favor of fielder as the season winds down. i hope my ragtag pitching rotation can hang in there for one more week...boy, would i love to have three starts from sheets over the next two weeks.
  17. i think some here have overestimated his ability based on his quick start, but it looks like he'd be more productive than dubois/hollandsworth. and if you get giles/dunn/somebody awesome for rf, that would be a drastic improvement over burnitz. if the cubs upgrade rf and lf, keep nomar healthy, bat walker in the correct spot in the order, and get something out of patterson, i feel like the offense has made some decent improvement. i'd be really surprised if murton hit .280 next year, but as long as he doesn't completely lose his plate discipline (i'm looking at you, jason dubois), i can live w/ him in lf. especially since i don't see any way that the cubs will land two, let alone three, very good-great outfielders in the off season. i think that at least one of corey and murton have to start...possibly both.
  18. Fortunately, that doesn't happen very often. and fortunately, for you, he's pitching against the cubs. Bloody Cubs. Just when I need them to roll over and play dead, they come alive against the best pitcher in the NL this year. i hear you...for a while there, the cubs were only playing well when it hurt my team (ie dempster's five save week).
  19. neifi just about three run jacked the db-nsbb game into a very interesting matchup!
  20. Fortunately, that doesn't happen very often. and fortunately, for you, he's pitching against the cubs.
  21. DB was oh so close to three QS yesterday. if he had gotten just an extra out or two here or given up one less run there, he'd be nursing a small lead going into the final day. DB needs a disaster start from carpenter today.
  22. i'm glad the cubs are willing to skip a pitcher's start so maddux can increase the chances of him extending a meaningless record that he already owns from 0% to 5%, but they refuse to skip a pitcher's start so that they can further evaluate their young arms. i know i'll never forget where i was when mcgriff got that 30th homer!
  23. i got it...it just wasn't funny. like most of his jokes.
