  1. vargas is getting shelled and dempster seems to get about four saves a day. i'm starting to think this may be the end for the sanitizers...
  2. do you really think the difference between a 4th/5th place team and a world series contender is the defense at ss?
  3. Since the Cubs have Pie, Giles. However, we shouldn't get our hopes up for Giles, Damon or Burnett. Now Furcal is a possibility. A slim one, but a lot of the big market teams have good SS's, so maybe the Cubs get lucky. nomar's better than furcal...especially when you consider that nomar will be cheaper, possibly more productive and a short-term replacement. if you sign furcal, it's going to be for at least four years, so you might as well trade cedeno. IF Nomar healthy (HUGE IF), he's a better hitter. No doubt. His defense is awful though. Hopefully, the Cubs look @ the future for a change, and sign Furcal. Put Nomah @ 2b, w/ Hairston as the backup. i'm not convinced that nomar + furcal is better than nomar + walker. especially when you consider the huge contract furcal is going to get. Bring back Nomar to play SS and the likelihood of Neifi returning is a lot higher. Bring in Furcal and the Cubs shouldn't have to worry about someone going down for 80 games. giving 30+ mil to an average ss is a pretty stupid way to go about keeping neifi perez off the field.
  4. who would that BP help be? i'm not about to trade a cheap, productive 2b and a cheap rookie whose value is at its peak for some flash in the pan set up guy who had one good season. even guys like remlinger and hawkins, who have had multiple good seasons out of the pen haven't panned out for the cubs. bullpen guys' numbers are so dependent on a small amount of innings, i just don't trust spending or trading big for a 7th/8th inning guy.
  5. you really do have to be shocked that mcclain gets the call over macias. macias' PT has decreased of late it seems.
  6. he's not fast, and he's not a cf, so he can't hit leadoff. duh. mcclain is brutal at 3b, by the way.

  8. i think if we've learned anything from this season, it's that patterson's a great choice for leadoff. at least cedeno's out there...i hope he doesn't have a tailing throw to first that costs the cubs the world series...

  10. you have to get the more productive bat...regardless of whether he is a power bat or a leadoff hitter. having a prototypical leadoff hitter isn't that big a deal. walker can bat leadoff. heck, if murton plays everyday, he can bat leadoff.
  11. my plan for the middle IF would be nomar at ss, walker at 2b and cedeno as the 2b/ss backup (the role neifi played this year). however, if nomar wants to move to lf (probably the easiest defensive position to play outside of 1b), that'd be fine with me. the FA market for OF'ers is pretty slim, so to have him out there would be nice....then you'd only have to get one other OF'er (assuming you keep patterson). i could live w/ giles in rf, nomar in lf, cedeno at ss and walker at 2b. i don't know if i'd throw murton out there everyday quite yet. it'd be nice if you could see a month's worth of him playing everyday, but for some reason, the cubs feel the need to really get another month's worth of burnitz.
  12. You were right about Cy Cain. :( three pitches, three outs after the hairston single. i think he stayed under 100 pitches. the cubs suck.
  13. three pitches, three outs after the leadoff single. hilarious. good thing the kids didn't get in there and screw this one up for the cubs.
  14. another friggin save for dempster...i swear, the cubs only win when it hurts my fantasy team.
  15. dusty's quotes about cedeno's baserunning practically write themselves.
  16. With the talk from Dusty a month ago of retirement, do you think the cubs let maddux walk? The Cubs have no say in the matter. did you not see the bold quote??? it appears maddux is giving the cubs an out...obviously with a buyout so which would you take, a buyout or maddux? depends on how much the buyout is and how hill and mitre perform in their last four starts of the season. oh wait, they're not getting starts.
  17. how do you figure furcal will make nomar money? nomar will probably get less than he did this year, while furcal will probably get a four-five year deal for at least 8 mil/year. a .344 obp out of your lead off hitter is not all that good. i'd rather re-sign nomar and keep walker. cedeno is the primary backup at 2b and ss, keep hairston, don't bring neifi back.
  18. luis gonzalez has played in something like 135 of the dbacks last 139 games...now he sits two games in a row...what gives?
  19. i ain't exactly throwing gibson, koufax and ryan out there either... Well, Sheffield won't play today and is questionable for the weekend. I would think he'll play in some capacity this weekend considering winning the division probably rides on this series with the Sox. injuries have really hurt us both this week. my pitching staff is remarkably suckier w/o sheets in there, and you're w/o griffey and now possibly sheffield. i thought i'd be down by more than 8 when i checked it this morning...
  20. does anyone else feel like the points for pitching could be altered somehow? it seems like now, your start either sucks (0-4 points) or is very good (15-18 points). i don't feel like there's a real middle ground. in reality, there is little difference between a 7 ip/4 er start and a 6 ip/3 er start. but in our league, the points difference is huge. the only way i can see to make the SP's points less extreme, but to keep the overall value of pitching, is to perhaps knock a QS from 7 to 5 points, but to increase the value of an inning pitched from 1.5 to 2.25. like it? hate it? hate me?
  21. now weaver's on the hook for the L. EFFFFF! i swear, 3/4 of his outings look like -- 6 ip, 5 h, 3 er -- after six, and then -- 6 1/3, 9 h, 5 er -- after seven.
  22. and for about the 7th time this year, weaver has a 6 inning QS in the bag only to blow it in the 7th. weaver (and jim tracy for that matter, since this happens EVERY TIME) and david bell can catch the next bus to hell!!!
  23. i ain't exactly throwing gibson, koufax and ryan out there either...
  24. we each have three starts left. me: vargas, el duque, johnson you: zito, vazquez, suppan advantage: you. if i can somehow match you in QS the rest of the way, i like my chances. my pen is bound for a couple points before this week's over. philly was stupid to use wagner when they were behind by a couple the other night...then he throws a ton of pitches over the next two days and gets hung w/ two losses.
  25. QS Willis QS Arroyo SV Dempster My pitching is saving me right now, but I'm not going to win the week without some production offensively! you're 4-4 on QS so far, which is nothing new. i'm a damn magnet for QS...i've had a couple of weeks of giving up 5+ QS. your pen has been awesome...mine has sucked, even w/ the gift win for street today. wagner has three losses on the year...two in the last two days.
