  1. he's getting all kinds of respect on that cards board for his hilarious hijinx. and it's him replying to himself.
  2. Rusch pitched poorly on Saturday?? Did you watch the game and see the defense behind Rusch?? If Rusch doesn't keep his composure, the game could have been 12-0 by the 5th. The defense was crummy behind Hill against the Mets, but then you insisted it was on him. Can't have it both ways. Did Rusch give up 9 runs? oh, i forgot, you were the guy who said he's rather lose 7-1 than 9-1. So you can't admit that Rusch had a solid start yesterday? It must kill you to see him do alright. rusch pitched fine last night. he had some bad d behind him, so that was unlucky. but at the same time, there were quite a few hard hit outs early...plus he got a good call to save him from walking in a run. right now, i'm just not interested in watching glendon rusch have bad/mediocre/average starts in cub losses. what does that accomplish? and if rusch's start last night was 'solid' then so were hill's first two starts. and if that start by rusch was solid, then what would you consider hill's last two starts in AAA? phenomenal? other-worldly? koufax-esque?
  3. This is my last post to you dude. You're acting unreasonable. I'm not Corey bashing, I'm giving props to Hairston for his effort. If I was batting .230, I'd do whatever it takes to somehow get to first safe. If it meant sliding, I'd do it. yeah, except, as you've been told numerous times, sliding head first makes you come in slower. and i can't say i'll really miss corresponding with you.
  4. Showing effort, and having a desire to badly be safe at first base is classic? Why? because it slows you down. i'm just glad you found a way to bash patterson in an inning that he got on base and barrett, nomar, burnitz and hairston all failed to do their job. kudos to you.
  5. that's a classic post right there. hairston groundout > patterson groundout all because hairston dives into first base like an idiot.

  7. listen, dude...i DO see that he's making the same mistakes. has anyone anywhere said that he's playing great lately? it's just ridiculous that anytime he does anything, a new thread springs up about him when the rest of the team is playing just as crappy. now where's that 'burnitz has sucked for a month' thread...
  8. how about a thread for walker, who made an error yesterday and got picked off first w/ ramirez coming up? or for neifi, who grounded into a big dp and later popped up with a guy at 3rd and less than two outs? or for rusch, who was awful in the first inning yesterday and put the cubs in an early hole? or for lawton, who botched a fly ball yesterday and has done nothing at the plate? i guess it's just more fun to pile on the same guy over and over...
  9. If you were to scrutinize a player with a .267 OBP to the smallest detail, we'd have to devote the entire board to it. There's not enough hours in the day to scrutinize all the details of Corey's game. Truly, he's a very crappy baseball player by any objective measure and offers not shortage of ammunition. All those other guys you mentioned are trashed on a routine basis on this board. The difference between them and Corey is they don't have a group of apologists shamelessly making excuse after excuse for them. then you haven't read all the posts about those guys. corey sucks this year, no doubt about it. but it's ridiculous that he seems to be the #1 target of baker, the media and posters on this board when the club was sucking it up at an all time high when he wasn't even on the team. you read these game threads and sullivan's articles and it makes it seem like patterson is the reason the cubs suck this year.
  10. exactly. patterson was sent down, in part, because he was trying to hit too many homers, striking out too much, not walking enough, not going the other way, etc. murton doesn't do any of those things, and he was sent down. in fact, they even came out and said that he needed to hit for more power.
  11. i'm just glad there's a thread where every mistake, no matter how small, that corey makes is scrutinized to the smallest detail. you guys should do this for all the cubs' players. oh wait, you don't have it out for guys like hollandsworth, perez, rusch, lawton, etc.
  12. Rusch pitched poorly on Saturday?? Did you watch the game and see the defense behind Rusch?? If Rusch doesn't keep his composure, the game could have been 12-0 by the 5th. heh...were you making those excuses when the bad news bears were playing behind hill in ny? of course not.
  13. And that means he would've pitched well in Houston and tonight in Denver? I'm no real fan of Rusch, but Hill could've done himself a big favor by at least pitching better in his second start than what he did in his first start. And I'm only talking a little bit of improvement. It amazes me how fast some people want to move guys up while forgetting that a lot of our guys just aren't ready or have been overvalued. All I can say is I hope we don't see Pie in a Cub uniform until September 2006. i'm not saying he would have pitched well in houston and colorado, but how could he have done worse than two cub losses? the cubs are behind 5-6 teams in the wild card race...i'd rather have two cub losses w/ rich hill on the mound than two cub losses with glendon rusch on the mound. i'm looking to have a good team next year, not winning 83 games this year. and w/ regard to pie...there's a big difference between a 25 year old dominating AAA and a 19 year old who had half a good season at AA. it's not a stretch to say that hill is ready.
  14. hill's two starts since he's been sent down... 2-0, 13 1/3 ip, 10 hits, 3 er, 2 bb, 21 k's rusch's two starts since he took hill's spot... 0-2, 9 2/3 ip, 17 hits, 7 er, 3 bb, 10 k's anybody still think the cubs made the right choice?
  15. i like how patterson has become the poster boy for this team's failures...even though he wasn't even w/ the team when they were playing the absolute worst baseball of the season, and some of the worst baseball i've ever seen. i can completely see him traded in the off-season in one of those 'let's rid the team of problem players' moves that paid off so well last off-season.
  16. final line for hill... 7 1/3, 5 hits, 1 er, 1 bb, 11 k's.
  17. hill strikes out his 11th, and is taken out. solid, solid outing for rich.
  18. leadoff triple against hill, who is still out there in the 8th.
  19. two more k's for hill...i believe that's another 10 k game. i think he's at 99 pitches.
  20. Either way, every pitch is guessing. But the chances/odds/favor is that in a hitters count you're getting a meatball. Hence called "hitters count." You see good hitters like Pujols, Ortiz, Manny, they work the count. DLee has worked the count for the majority of the season, and he does alot better when doing so. Watching all the replays on MLB.tv, of all the highlights, when I look at the counts when players hit homers and RBI doubles, its never 0-0. Your idea is fine, when theres nobody on base. But the pitcher is going to be VERY careful when theres 2 guys on base. there was one guy on base. and i still don't see how letting a hittable pitch ride for a called strike is going to get you ahead in the count. i'm done discussing this with you.
  21. Reading Ted William's book, he says otherwise. When you're struggling, you work the count into your favor, then you can expect a better pitch. In a 2-0, 3-0 count, you can almost expect a fastball to hit. It makes plenty of sense. if the first pitch is a perfectly hittable pitch right down the middle, how is getting down in the count 0-1 going to get the count in your favor? are you just assuming that if you stand there and don't swing, the opposing pitcher is going to fall behind 3-0?
  22. :-s Is it Deene calling the game? yep. grieve doubles home two, and the cubs lead 3-1. heart of the order due up against hill.
  23. Valid point. But when you're struggling like Corey Patterson, and trying to drive in runs, you do not swing at the first pitch at all. The guy isn't hitting well. Pitchers are throwing him garbage. Rusch throws the ball away like El Duque did earlier today. that's ridiculous.
  24. murton k's (wainwright's 11th) after cedeno's bunt gets thrown away allowing hill to score. 1-1 game. announcer says murton was sent to iowa to work on his power stroke. so corey was sent to iowa because he was using his power stroke too much, and murton was sent down because he wasn't using it enough. good times.
