And that means he would've pitched well in Houston and tonight in Denver? I'm no real fan of Rusch, but Hill could've done himself a big favor by at least pitching better in his second start than what he did in his first start. And I'm only talking a little bit of improvement. It amazes me how fast some people want to move guys up while forgetting that a lot of our guys just aren't ready or have been overvalued. All I can say is I hope we don't see Pie in a Cub uniform until September 2006. i'm not saying he would have pitched well in houston and colorado, but how could he have done worse than two cub losses? the cubs are behind 5-6 teams in the wild card race...i'd rather have two cub losses w/ rich hill on the mound than two cub losses with glendon rusch on the mound. i'm looking to have a good team next year, not winning 83 games this year. and w/ regard to pie...there's a big difference between a 25 year old dominating AAA and a 19 year old who had half a good season at AA. it's not a stretch to say that hill is ready.
hill's two starts since he's been sent down... 2-0, 13 1/3 ip, 10 hits, 3 er, 2 bb, 21 k's rusch's two starts since he took hill's spot... 0-2, 9 2/3 ip, 17 hits, 7 er, 3 bb, 10 k's anybody still think the cubs made the right choice?
i like how patterson has become the poster boy for this team's failures...even though he wasn't even w/ the team when they were playing the absolute worst baseball of the season, and some of the worst baseball i've ever seen. i can completely see him traded in the off-season in one of those 'let's rid the team of problem players' moves that paid off so well last off-season.
Either way, every pitch is guessing. But the chances/odds/favor is that in a hitters count you're getting a meatball. Hence called "hitters count." You see good hitters like Pujols, Ortiz, Manny, they work the count. DLee has worked the count for the majority of the season, and he does alot better when doing so. Watching all the replays on MLB.tv, of all the highlights, when I look at the counts when players hit homers and RBI doubles, its never 0-0. Your idea is fine, when theres nobody on base. But the pitcher is going to be VERY careful when theres 2 guys on base. there was one guy on base. and i still don't see how letting a hittable pitch ride for a called strike is going to get you ahead in the count. i'm done discussing this with you.
Reading Ted William's book, he says otherwise. When you're struggling, you work the count into your favor, then you can expect a better pitch. In a 2-0, 3-0 count, you can almost expect a fastball to hit. It makes plenty of sense. if the first pitch is a perfectly hittable pitch right down the middle, how is getting down in the count 0-1 going to get the count in your favor? are you just assuming that if you stand there and don't swing, the opposing pitcher is going to fall behind 3-0?
Valid point. But when you're struggling like Corey Patterson, and trying to drive in runs, you do not swing at the first pitch at all. The guy isn't hitting well. Pitchers are throwing him garbage. Rusch throws the ball away like El Duque did earlier today. that's ridiculous.
murton k's (wainwright's 11th) after cedeno's bunt gets thrown away allowing hill to score. 1-1 game. announcer says murton was sent to iowa to work on his power stroke. so corey was sent to iowa because he was using his power stroke too much, and murton was sent down because he wasn't using it enough. good times.
I can't speak for anyone else, but my mama taught me not to talk with my mouth full of crow. are you telling people to eat crow because rusch had one good inning?
damn...i thought iowa was on the road tonight. guess i'll just have to listen on the radio. hill leads off the game w/ a k and gets the next two guys quickly. third out came on a flyout to murton, who is in rf.
a 22 year old who already had a year of success under his belt. his other choices were juan cruz and alan benes. quit acting like dusty and pretending like he unearthed the talents of prior and wood. they were dropped in his lap. even the most incompetent manager would know to have z and prior in the rotation. it's ridiculous to give him credit for having those guys out there.
