  1. the cubs are in a tight spot...they need to see if nomar's worth re-signing, but at the same time, they need to see if cedeno's ready to step into the job next season. unless cedeno plays 2b (and you bench -- and tick off -- your 2006 2b) that ain't gonna happen. plus, the cubs seem to still think they're in this thing...
  2. oh man, so did i! he used to come on with these made up stats...saying walker was a -2.98 on defense while grudz was an 18.43. he would swear that these stats meant something, but he never would say what. classic...
  3. i wouldn't be too upset if they sent him down. but at this point, you might as well see if he has what it takes to compete for a spot in the rotation next year. sending him down to insert rusch into the rotation is pretty pointless. If they were facing San Fran, I'd like to see Hill get another start so he could try to get on his feet. However, it's @ Houston. Yes the Cubs are pretty much done, but it's a big series anyway, and it's the leadoff game of the series. Also, Hill might be trying to break a 12 game losing streak. things worked out great for rusch tonight, didn't they? i wasn't going to give you crap about your pining for glendon over hill until i come to the game thread and see you're still ragging on hill....long after rusch has been rocked and removed. did you see hill's line tonight, by the way? Touche. :D Hopefully Hill can get on his feet against minor leaguers. He wasn't ready for prime time. I'm one to give Baker and Hendry the benefit of the doubt from time to time. Perhaps they know what they doing every once in a while??? i agree. the world series trophies speak for themselves.
  4. lol....take a gander at rusch's career numbers some time.
  5. If he can't make it here, then he's a commodity that can be sent to the teams that can use him. Why do you want Welly cut from the organization, yet clamor for Rueter to be signed? What can the Cubs get for him?? Seriously? Could catch lightning in a bottle w/ Reuter. At least he's had success in the majors, and can't be much worse than Hill, Mitre or Welly. Wait, you want Reuter over Hill, Mitre or Welly? Reuter had success when he could get that FB up over 80 mph. I'd rather lose 8 - 4 than 15 -4. what are your feelings on losing 12-4?
  6. Release Wellemeyer. No loss @ all. Majorly disagree. raisin, what do you see in Welle? He has the pitches to be a bottom of the order starter - he posted an ERA of 3 at AAA in 11 starts this year. He could also be a good set-up man. The Cubs need to give him a proper role and not dust him off once every week in blow outs. I dont mean to pick a bone with you, but I dont see it. lower to mid 90's fastball, ok slider, changup...and limited success at AAA. it seems like every time he gets called up his head implodes and he cant find the strikezone. do you think he needs to start? He needs regular playing time to succeed. He doesn't get it in the big leagues (except for about two weeks in May) and that's why I think he struggles more with his control in the big leagues. He gets proper playing time in the minors and does well. If only Choi could play ever day...... And the song plays on.... It's Dusty fault. doo dooo. Dusty's fault. dooo dooo. It rained today and was Dusty's fault. doo doooo :D it'd be one thing if your boy glendon had pitched well tonight and you were over here taunting people about their preference for youngsters. it's just mind-boggling that you're still doing it after rusch got rocked.

  8. It doesn't matter. Wuertz is shaky but Welly should not be here (period). If you can't keep your ERA under 4 in the minors you don't belong in the MLs. I was shocked when I saw that Koronka was sent down so quickly in favor of Wellemeyer. Don't get me wrong, I don't think Koronka is the answr. Actually, I'm inclinded to think that Hill out of the pen is better than as a starter because of his limited pitches. Bring him back. Welly has got to go! Yep, bring Hill out of the pen. Just don't let him go beyond an inning. Might get a 7 spot tagged on him. :( lol...still ragging on hill even after your boy glendon got shellacked. nice.
  9. 10 k's thru six for hill. first pitch strikes to 15 of 24 hitters. omaha gets one after a leadoff walk scores on a ground ball single off lewis' glove. 4-2 iowa...hill likely done after 103 pitches.
  10. 8 k's thru 5 for hill. perfect innings in four of the five innings. if you have the right set up, you can simultaneously listen to hill dominate hitters while rusch sucks up the town. it's fun, you kids should try it.
  11. two hits and a sb for hairston.
  12. only one out in the air so far for hill. at least one more k (missed the third out cheering for patterson running around the bases) in a perfect fourth for hill.
  13. 3 ip, 3 hits, 5 k's, 1 er so far for hill. run scored in the third on three straight ground ball singles. he also got two ground ball outs that inning, so all the ground balls are a pleasant change for him.
  14. hill throwing a lot of fastballs so far. announcer says he's spotting them very well. hill goes to a three ball count for the first time tonight before giving up his first hit.
  15. hill w/ 4 k's through two hitless innings for the i-cubs.
  16. He has the stuff to be a good starter (better than Jerome Williams). Just because he hasn't started in the big leagues doesn't mean he can't in the future, in fact I (and others like raw and UK) would like to see him start in the big leagues. Even if his role in the big leagues will be as a reliever, as a minor league starter, he'll get more innings under his belt and more practice. He's been starting all year at AAA and been doing a good job too: 3.02 ERA, .235 BAA, 48 K but 25 BB in 53.2 IP. i'm also a fan of welly as a starter. the i-cubs website has hill as the starter tomorrow.
  17. How true is that! They have been terrible. hahahah i love the quote from that scout. What does the lack of heart have to do with anything? I'd guess that the reason they walk guys and give up hits is because they suck. it's the same crap people say about patterson and wood. patterson sucks because he doesn't want to be good, and wood gets hurt a lot because he doesn't want to stay healthy.
  18. That sounds like the most feasible plan, minus #2. I don't think Ryan is going anywhere. And I'd like the bench to be much different. I'd replace Hollandsworth with an OBP machine like Mark Sweeney or Branyan. I'd let Neifi go, so there's no temptation to play him if Lugo or Walker goes down. I'd try to replace him with a guy that can play several positions WELL and take a walk, like Frank Menechino, Chris Gomez, or Marco Scutaro. i've mentioned branyan in other threads. he'd be a good lh complement to lee at 1b, plus he gives you the backup 3b which seems to be the role keeping macias on the team. and the cubs have just flat out lacked the guy that you can bring off the bench down by one with two outs in the 9th inning. i always like having an all or nothing type slugger (ie glenallen hill) to keep stashed away on the bench. hollandsworth's not that guy, and i've seen enough of him all together.
  19. Contrary to the hate, these two are ones that have played up to expectations or exceeded expectations this year. They are NOT the problem with this team. So sucky players are only a problem if their suckiness is unexpected? Actually, they don't suck. Yes, on this board they suck, but in reality, they don't. Which reality? the one where getting on base 30% of the time is good.
  20. i think the fact that people still find reasons to rag on him after he has a good game says something about some people and their dislike for patterson.
  21. i wonder if some of the same people who claim that hill is too old are also the same people who fawn over eric patterson, who is 22 playing in low A. not saying that i don't like patterson a lot, but enough w/ the 'hill is too old' stuff already.
  22. I would hope that is in the past as is Zambrano's hitting Edmonds 2 times. It has been a long time since the Cubs and Cardinals had a heated moment and I hope it stays that way. Zambrano deserved what he got as far as the ejection, but he had no reason to throw at Edmonds, but if I was a Cards fan I'd want one of my pitchers to throw at Z. The Cubs deserve their fair of the blame as well in the past, right now, Morris does. I never understood why a pitcher would throw at a hitter that wasn't a pitcher, despite being guilty of it myself. I hope the Cubs do something to bring back some life, it if takes putting a couple of Cards on the ground, so be it. If the standings don't motivate the Cubs, they have to find a way to do it. I would rather they win, which they did last year, while Z and Hawkins blew up. yeah, that's why the cubs lost. i sometimes forget how much i hate the cardinals...until they have a series with the cubs and all their fans come out of the woodwork.
  23. so shawn estes gets six months of slack while rich hill gets 4 1/3 innings. good to know.
  24. thank goodness. i'd hate to see hill get an extended look to see if he can take a rotation spot in '06. we need rusch out there since he's the cornerstone of the franchise...plus we'll be battling for fifth place in the central by then.
