  1. gah...wuertz coming in. i was hoping for hill.
  2. he made a great play on berkman's ball so it kinda evens out...but not really.
  3. 130 to 130 looks plenty tight to me. yeah, but i'll go down three or four over night. still a great battle, though. i need delucci's pansy ass to get out there and play!
  4. damn...a QS from weaver would have really tightened things up. i need some more offense from my west coast guys...
  5. i say griffey's in. one more year like this year and he's a lock. in my mind, ruth is by far the best hitter of all time. look at what he did compared to the guys he was playing with. if you think bonds' #'s dwarf his peers... ruth's career obp: .474 league average obp: .353 ruth's career slg: .690 league average slg: .400 bonds' career obp: .443 league average obp: .331 bonds' career slg: .611 league average slg: .407 and bonds cheated for ?? years.
  6. when ruth was playing against all white players, so was everybody else. when bonds was using steroids, not everybody else was using them. he had control over the advantage that he gained, ruth did not.
  7. of course not. lifting weights isn't illegal. yes he did. steroids are illegal.
  8. stabbing the first base ump and urinating on the mascot isn't illegal under baseball rules either...but you can't do either of those things. steroids are illegal (by america rule book standards), and they gave him an unfair advantage over other players. he probably would have been a HOFer w/o the steroids, but we can never know for sure. if he took them. Which hasn't been proven. Innocent until proven guilty He admitted taking them. He said he just didn't know they were steroids. He was told it was magic pixie dust. Was this part of the leaked testimony? I honestly don't remember. I believe it was. Except for the Pixiedust. So, to be technical, everyone is indicting him on a piece of testimony that wasn't meant to be made public, and which the courts have chosen not to act on to this point. MMMkay. they're acting on it...i thought his testimony involved the BALCO situation. you're being extremely generous in giving bonds the benefit of the doubt. he admitted, under oath, that he took steroids. it wasn't supposed to get out, but that doesn't take away from the reliability of the testimony. it's not like a game of telephone where what he said may have gotten distorted.
  9. victorinio picked a good time for his first homer...two days in a row the phils have put up four in the top half of an inning in a late tie game.
  10. you may as well just make that your sig. i'm right about pretty much everything.

  12. He was a great hitter before the spike in numbers. They helped him, there's no doubt. But, he had the best bat speed before the spike in numbers, similar to Griffey. I'm not going to ignore what he's done. He went from a great hitter to the greatest hitter, he was still a great hitter. i agree...but i'm not willing to give a cheater the benefit of the doubt when trying to figure out his non-roid numbers. instead of trying to speculate as to what day he started taking steroids and judge his career by saying 'well, what did he do before steroids?' or 'just how many homeruns did steroids add to his career total?' i just consider him to be a cheater.
  13. He's always used a bat shorter and lighter than the normal ones used by sluggers, and still chokes up on it. Amazingly fast bat speed + unbelivable pitch recognition = best hitter of our era. if steroids didn't help him, then why did he take them? from some of you guys' analysis, you make it seem they're totally irrelevant to his success. he must have felt they were doing some good. I'm not sure this is the best argument to make. Some players cork bats because they think it helps, despite the fact that it really doesn't help. I'm not saying steroids don't help. Just pointing out that a player might do something because they think it will give them an advantage, whether it actually does or not. I do agree that steroids have probably been most beneficial to Bonds by allowing him to stay in peak physical condition at a point in his career where his body most likely wouldn't be able to handle the physical strain of a 162-game season. However, I have heard that he does work his butt off in the offseason to stay in shape. Of course, the steroids just add to that. yeah, but he must have felt that they were helping him if he continued to take them. i don't doubt bonds' great eye or lightning quick bat...he's always had those. but i'm not about to just discount his steroid use because he has a good eye at the plate. steroids helped him, he realized that they helped him, and he continued to use them. he probably would be a great hitter w/o steroids, but there's no doubt in my mind that he was made better by steroids. his size jumped, his #'s jumped, and he used them for multiple years...that's all the proof i need to know that he was aided by steroids.
  14. If Choi is struggling with 15 homers, hitting .257 with a .336 OPB in about 300 ABs, I'd better never see you shower praise on Neifi Perez again. Do you follow the Dodgers at all or just read the stats?? Choi's a part-time player. He doesn't face left-handed pitchers and Tracy has a tendency to sit him against guys like Clemens and Oswalt. Neifi's faces all comers, and I've said all along that he's a middle of the pack SS. Can't see how that's "praise." Nice spin though. :o Put Choi in there every day and his stat line wouldn't look as good. Of course, it's about average for a 1b where it stands. or his numbers could improve w/ more consistent playing time.
  15. This is the only thing Steriods might have done to improve Barry Bonds' game. Durability. If he took steriods, as he likely did, they impacted his game minimally outside durability. There is no denying he is the best hitter in baseball, and maybe the best hitter ever. but his durability is what will help him break some of the most important records in baseball history. how the hell is that a minimal impact?? i'd say it's the impact.

  17. And...gamecenter is not showing Turnbow with a blown save. Curious. Your Texas boys are tearing it up tonight, though. blown saves go up over night. still a pretty bad day/night for me. i had closers blow two wins for my starters, and wakefield lost a QS...at least johnson threw up 6 decent innings. i'd like to see teix & blalock get another ab...
  18. i hate, hate, hate, hate, hate the cubs. i've never hated them more than i do right now. as if the most pathetic [expletive]-filled season of ineptitude wasn't enough to torture me with, the only time they show the slightest bit of guts is when it screws my fantasy teams. i can only remember a handful of times when they have come back when down in the ninth inning...and FOUR of those times have been against mesa and turnbow. FOUR! go to hell, cubs!
  19. If you like getting autographs, try Fitch Park. The minor league guys were more than accomodating. Take plenty of sun screen. Very few of the seats at HoHoKam are in the shade. I'd really go with the hotel package. While you may pay a little more, the ease of having your tickets purchased in advance and waiting for you at the hotel is really nice. Also, the seats we received were great! i've never tried the hotel package/tickets thing you're talking about...sounds like a decent deal. we stay at the same hotel every year...it's a manageable distance from all the parks. i always get tickets online as soon as they go on sale...the games at hohokam are always the hardest to get. fitch is great...you can watch up to four games at once and see tons of minor leaguers. like vance said, most of them are very accommodating for autograph requests and nosy fans with questions. :D it's also fun just to watch them do drills, take BP, interact with each other, etc. sorry to say it, but hohokam is by far the worst park in the cactus league. the food's bad, the crowds are huge and the parking sucks. all the other parks are pretty good. there are a bunch of good restaurants in the area that cater to the baseball fans. if anyone has any specific questions, pm me.
  20. his mouth is activated also. when he was asked about the congressional investigation into steroids, his response to reporters is 'how much money have you donated to hurricane relief?' um...yeah...so about those steroids you took.... No, not exactly. He said that he felt that Congress should focus on more important things. Later, he talked about the hurricane relief. I'm no fan of Bonds, but let's not skew the facts when talking about him. sorry...i left out a couple steps in the barry bonds 'change the subject ASAP and make it look like the media is the bad guy' plan. so i used the cream and the clear...that guy from the pawtucket observer hasn't donated to the red cross yet! i'm really surprised that everyone is sticking up for bonds. is it really a good argument to say 'well, all steroids would do is help him hit the ball farther.' isn't that the name of the game??? that's like saying, 'well, all steroids did for ben johnson was make him run faster' or 'all steroids did for that powerlifter was make him lift more weights.' come on! he certainly does have a quick bat...no doubt about it. but there's no convincing me that steroids, hgh, whatever, didn't improve his game. if it didn't, there's no way he would risk his life, career, reputation, place in history, livelihood, name, etc just to see what steroids were all about. it helped him, he knew it, that's why did them and continued to do them. yeah, steroids haven't helped him any...he's only a physical specimen at 40+.
  21. hey, take the night off, jeff kent.
  22. son of a bitch...two shitty closers blow two wins for my starters today. how's this for a swing...timlin gives up a two run triple to gomes (5 points for you), charging a run to wakefield (minus points for me), costing him a win (minus 4 for me) and costing him a QS (minus 7 for me). nice job, dick! and of course the cubs show some spine when it could cost me a save.
  23. then he was pretty stupid to take em before.
  24. it's about the best vacation you'll ever have!
