  1. boston's done all right with some pretty shaky defense up the middle. And Atlanta has done well being solid there. they're also 3rd in the NL in runs and 6th in the NL in era. are you saying their defense at c, 2b, ss and cf is a bigger reason for their success than their hitting and pitching? seattle has the fewest errors in mlb...they must be winning their division by 25 games.

  4. What did Morgan Ensberg come back from? suckitis. i'd never give giambi anything, ever. why is his story so heart-warming when palmeiro is basically being run out of the game?
  5. Why does everyone think we should have so-and-so as a LOOGY? Hasn't Ohman done a dang good job? I think Hill should be a LOOGY because he's shown absolutely no desire to throw either his changeup or cutter at the major league level. As a result, he's working with two pitches, a very average fastball and a superb curveball. Righties mash him and he can't go through a major league order three times. righties don't mash him...at least they didn't in the minors. i don't think it's fair to say that he can't get through a major league order three times, as he's had very few chances to do so. geez, hill has a rough start to his big league career and he's a loogy at best. murton has a good start to his career and he's tony gwynn.
  6. len, there's no such thing as a golden opportunity when you're behind five teams in the standings with 17 games to go.
  7. he's a kid, what do you expect? guys don't reach their prime until they're 36.
  8. see ya in spring training, rich.
  9. Not me. If Hill can't beat out Jerome or Guzman for the #5 starter spot in the spring, I'd prefer the Cubs include him in a trade elsewhere. Frankly, I'm not sold on Hill long-term anyways. He has one trick pitch, and it's good--but until this year, he's NEVER been able to throw strikes consistently. The evidence suggests he's more likely to revert to past control problems than he is to ever be a steady control pitcher. Which unfortunately for him, is exactly what's needed for a relief pitcher--especially a loogy. what evidence suggests that he'll go back to being wild? are there other pitchers you are thinking of that have had a one year wonder of control only to go back to not being able to throw strikes? i don't like hill that much as a loogy. personally, i feel like his curve is just as good, if not better against righties. but i do hope the cubs trade him if he's not in their future plans...he deserves a chance to start somewhere.
  10. ...and announcers not giving the players nicknames. Nice addition, Cornstalk. just pulling my weight around here. also, anyone notice how farnsworth's poor attitude is just killing the braves right now? whew, am i glad the cubs ditched him. That's my point. Same player...why is he successful now? This isn't about chemistry but adjustments by the manager/coaches and catcher. he was successful when he was with the cubs...at times. he got abused by baker last season and wore down. the tools were always there, and the cubs were stupid to give up on him.

  13. sportsline says he was ejected for hitting luna in today's game, but there weren't any hit batters earlier in the game...what happened?
  14. no, he never brags on players or jumps on bandwagons.
  15. i'm the first to admit that i've been very lucky over the past three days of fantasy baseball. i was fortunate to get out of the first round, and to say i've had good fortune w/ my SP's this week would be an understatement. but i'll take it. :D
  16. your inspirational speech worked on howard. i can't believe how strong my pitching has been this week. three 8+ inning outings from three pretty average pitchers...
  17. Aren't those things supposed to be calibrated daily? heh, we talked about that in evidence today. there's no way i'd rank ryu over pinto or nolasco...or hil...or gallagher...or marshall. that's a pretty odd comment from BA.
  18. obviously, i would too. but it's never gonna happen for a few reasons. 1) baker refuses to accept the fact that the cubs are toast. and he will continue to refuse to accept it until the cubs are 10 out with 9 to play...heck, he may even hang in there at that point. 2) rusch followed up four turds with a gem in st. louis, and everybody knows that with dusty the good stays in his memory longer than the bad when it comes to veterans. 3) rusch has already launched a pre-emptive whine attack on possibly being sent back to the pen next season. so i can only assume he'll whine about getting sent there this season. and i don't think dusty or hendry want to have an iffy clubhouse...which is why farnsworth is throwing up zeros in atlanta instead of chicago. when rusch sucked it up for four starts and hill pitched well in AAA, i really had hope that rich would get 3-4 starts in september. at this point, i'd just be happy to see him get 3-4 innings.
  19. you're not done. you have three starts from prior, oswalt and fatolo...they are all capable of having huge games. and my pitchers are all capable of having 'disaster' starts.
  20. i'm guessing timlin gets a blown save too...but he gave up the lead in the 7th...does that still count as a BS?
  21. last week i told jim tracy and jeff weaver they could go to hell. i now retract those statements. what a first day for me...my two starts got me 17 1/3 ip, 14 k's, 2 runs allowed, 2 wins, 2 QS, a shutout and a CG (would have been two if not for my arch nemisis jose macias... :puker: )...now that's the kind of production i expect when i throw studs like jeff weaver and aaron harang out there... 8-[ ...and i think my bullpen this week has already outscored my pen last week. if not for ibanez's crazy good night, it'd be 75-0 going into day two. but i'm far from resting easy because colon, prior and oswalt are all capable of 25 point efforts. and andruw is liable to jack out five hr's in three more games in philly. both teams have six starts left. db's should have a small lead going into tomorrow's action. eaton just missed a quality start, or his lead would be bigger. tim's gotta be loving a bullpen win...
  22. by the way, dusty's double switch is going to work out fantastic this inning. since he took walker out (even though his spot comes before macias'), a ph will bat 2nd. then macias can make the final out. good thing hill didn't go out there and screw this beauty up.
  23. he was warming earlier, but then dusty realized that he had TWO rookies warming up at the same time, and we obviously can't have that.
  24. heh...walker out in the double switch, but macias stays in. wonderful. i want to see some rich hill.
