  1. funny/sad that it took the big league staff hardly any time at all to presumably ruin 2 1/2 years of good rich hill and less than two weeks for the minor league staff to get him back on track (hopefully).
  2. that's part of the reason i traded him.
  3. OMG the cubs are never going to win division lead gone by 8:00 tonight i'm going to kill myself.
  4. pregame ceremony presenting them with their 2008 nl central championship rings.
  5. how bush is that? it's not like it's some really juicy scoop or something...lame.
  6. which is what it will be. lol at the brewers today.
  7. i don't get it either. his main problem when he was up was throwing strikes, and he's walked 1 or fewer in 9 of his last 10 starts. he's had a few rough starts where he's given up five runs or so, but i have to think he could at least be league average in the big leagues right now. k'ed nine in seven shut out innings on 6/30. i'm guessing he starts the second half in the twins rotation.
  8. st. louis and milwaukee are gonna need some sweeps if they want to make a dent in that 10 game lead the cubs are going to have.
  9. I got 2 of them bitches and traded Uggla before the season. that uggla trade kinda worked for everybody. brian got soto, i got uggla, you got wainwright. obviously wainwright is hurt, but they've all been good when healthy. though i'd maybe trade uggla for soto at this point since towles has been worthless.
  10. yeah, not a big fan of that rule change.
  11. liriano and hill have KILLED me. not only have they sucked, but they forced me into trading martin for blanton (who has sucked) and sanchez (who has been good, thankfully) in an attempt to patch work my rotation. injuries to rollins and soriano have kept me from competing for the high score in the league and first place, and fielder and hawpe's early struggles didn't help either. i don't really know what i could do to upgrade at this point since there aren't a whole lot of for-sure sellers...and the ones that are out of it are guys i've never had much luck trading with or don't have anything that could help me. a rebound from towles, a return to form for zimmerman and a good contribution from liriano could help patch up a few of my holes.
  12. They don't play until tomorrow night in STL. They'll get in very early Friday morning and play probably 12-14 hours later. It's no big deal. stop ruining everyone's "the world is against the cubs" vibe. cubs have already done what i hoped they would this series by winning two. taking this one would just be gravy.
  13. forgot about him. though he has fewer points than those other guys...and is only going to be OF-eligible next year. wow, just looked at his numbers...he is not a fan of walking, eh?
  14. who is the best exempt player in the league? lincecum, hamels for the pitchers; kinsler, hamilton, hanley and uggla for hitters?
  15. I can't see him helping at all this year. I think the Cubs should start using him out of the pen whereever he is at. Hell use him him one hitter at a time. Pick lefties who have no shot to hit him. Let him start getting successful again and try to build his confidence. his stuff isn't the problem. it's his control. it's not like he's getting battered around every time out.
  16. I wasn't under the impression that he was ever really that wild, so I'm not sure how big of a difference this is. i wasn't either. but the word "ankiel" was getting thrown around quite a bit in this thread and others. I'm pretty sure the word "ankiel" was being thrown around because he seems to have magically and almost instantly lost his high level of pitching skill. He didn't lose it as "glamorously" as Ankiel did, and I doubt his career is on the same future path, but there's still a mental element that has apparently impacted both pitchers. I don't think it's an unfair comparison from that POV. except ankiel was missing my feet, not inches when he was going badly. hill apparently has not been doing that, so i think he has a better chance of recovering. i'm sure there's a mental element to it at this point, but the fact that he's not firing it over the backstop makes me think it's a combination of mental and mechanical.
  17. send him to mesa to room with hill.

  19. no, no relief pitching is EXACTLY the same thing as shooting a basketball.
  20. if they can sit there with a straight face and say he was getting squeezed by the ump (whether it's true or not), i think it's safe to assume he wasn't throwing balls behind hitters and six feet over the catcher's head. so that's something. also, i'm sure part of the reason he was pulled was because of a pitch count.
  21. i don't know how he could upbeat mentally.
  22. i'll take being down only one point with a 4-2 start advantage the rest of the way. still can't figure out how piniero's 5 ip, 11 h, 4 er start is not a negative start, but i'll take it i guess. and i liked dempster's score a lot better before he gave up that homer...
  23. plesac pronouncing ichiro "ichiroo" (rhymes with scooby doo).
