  1. is this announcer honestly pondering whether EC should try a FG up five with six seconds left on VT's 25?
  2. He said that with the umpire, the hitter, and the catcher in the way that it was very difficult for him to see that the ball would skip that far away. Then went on with the line, "it is easy to criticize from the stands or the press box...." kinda like how he criticizes soriano at every opportunity.
  3. theriot is the worst white baserunner in baseball.
  4. Why are you not enjoying this? I hate the people that call out those that are negative, because I am that way well over half the time, but your thoughts about this team seem to be particularly negative. Teams slump all the time. The Cubs have done it several times this year, only to bounce back and score 7-8 runs for a good stretch. I just hate it when we are losing, it chews up my insides. Believe me Ive enjoyed this season a great deal. I love this team, probably the best in my lifetime. I just hate it when they go long stretches without scoring. like four innings.
  5. you're right, we should score 5.5 runs every game since we average that. i guess i can't blame you for not having a clue what a good baseball team looks like, though. When did I say we weren't good? I do recognize that we are the best team in the NL, but that wont stop me from complaining on a game to game basis. Its built into my soul. sounds like a miserable existence.
  6. seriously, if illiniguy thinks you are acting ridiculous during a loss, you better do some serious self-evaluation.
  7. well, that's just stupid. what law dictates you're either worse or better in "clutch" spots? How about just worse or not worse? right. The anti-clutch group isn't playing in a vacuum. If a subset of players is worse in high leverage situations, someone (as a matter of mathematics) is performing better. so if arod goes 0-5 in a playoff game, someone else has to have an above average game as a mathematical certainty?
  8. I think the Cubs could be undefeated right now and you still would question if they're for real or not. aren't you the chicken little guy from the game threads?
  9. well, that's just stupid. what law dictates you're either worse or better in "clutch" spots? How about just worse or not worse? right.
  10. well, that's just stupid. what law dictates you're either worse or better in "clutch" spots? No law dictates anything. then how come you assume if 25% of guys do worse in the clutch, 75% must do better? that's absurd. what the hell are you talking about.
  11. well, that's just stupid. what law dictates you're either worse or better in "clutch" spots?
  12. sounds like he should have used that special concentration power during the rest of the game.
  13. this is, of course, ridiculous and really, really terrible logic. i believe in choking, as it's obvious someone can crumble under pressure. but the idea that someone can magically enhance their ability in certain situations is enough to make me not believe in "clutch." if ramirez had the ability to turn it on in certain spots or enhance his focus in certain situations, he would do it all the time and make millions and millions of more dollars. unless it's like video game power that can only be used for so long...like the wings in super mario 3.
  14. problem is, it's not just confined to game threads any more. and it doesn't bother me...if people want to act like idiots, they can. i just won't read/post in the baseball areas as much or at all.
  15. your previous post said... he'll presumably be on a minor league roster (or the minor league DL) at the end of the year, won't he?
  16. You could take the high road and stop reading the game threads if they upset you so much. i only read them now to mock them. the best part about games like this (a game, by the way, that i was 100% confident in the cubs winning at all times...even though if they hadn't won, it would not have mattered one iota) is coming here to read a bunch of hysterical weirdos denounce the team (a team with the best offense, pitching, record, etc in the league, by the way) for meaningless individual plays in meaningless games. i can't believe that this board is now almost completely void of decent baseball discussion during the best season of any of our lives. it's pathetic. i mostly just come here now to talk about movies and make fun of derwood (who is actually right for once on this subject, so i can't even make fun of him for that). You don't really add anything by mocking the game thread and the people in it. And what's the point of coming into every game thread and announcing how bad they are? Are you trying to show that you are better than everyone else because you knew the Cubs would win the whole time and didn't react emotionally to the mistakes in the game? I'm sure you've reacted the same way privately as people do publicly. I agree with EJ, take the high road. yeah, i've reacted like that to playoff games or meaningful regular season games. oh, and i probably also reacted like that when i was 12 or something. but this thing's in the bag, guys. the cubs are going to the playoffs even though, for some reason, some people want to deny it. an error in last night's game is not worth getting worked up about. now is the time to relax and enjoy the team or maybe even spend some of your life doing something besides hanging on every pitch of cubs baseball. and sure, i don't contribute anything by mocking the game thread, but obviously nobody adds to the game thread with the message board equivalent of a poopy diaper, red-faced, tearful temper tantrum, which is what 90% of this thread's posts were.
  17. exactly. and when the season's over, he won't be on the major league roster.

  19. wow, another really, really embarrassing game thread. don't you guys want to enjoy any of this historic season, or do you plan on continuing to break down into tearful fits of rage after every little mistake any cubs player makes? have a little perspective...ridiculous.
  20. no, it really doesn't. it's perfectly legal for him to be on my minor league roster now, but not in the day the season ends? what changes between right now and the end of the season? he certainly isn't back up on the cubs' major league roster. that's just stupid, but whatever.
  21. it's not the points part, it's the roster space. i doubt i'd waste one of my 10 spots on him. if he's eligible to be on my minor league roster right now (which he is), i don't see why he wouldn't be eligible to be on my minor league roster at the end of the year. that doesn't make much sense.
  22. the guy i'm thinking about is rich hill. he's been in the minors since june (?), and he certainly won't be back up again this season. he just seems like he'd be minor league roster eligible.
