  1. Or you could look at it like I had the opportunity to do the same, and I failed as well. I hate having Adam back in the race. I'd love to see him miss the playoffs. I knew you were gonna lose before I knew I was gonna lose though. I thought I had a legit shot to win with the Mets night game, until Sabathia came out for the 9th (3Ks, CG for an extra 10 points) and Lincecum came out for the 8th. Both were over 100 pitches before their final innings. I just want to let it be known that I took you both down ;-) but you couldn't take me down. thanks though for taking those other guys down.
  2. i'm sure the 100 pitches sherrill threw last night will lead to good things in the 2nd half. also, i hope uggla can put his all-star game disaster behind him. wow.
  3. Thank god he's not involved in any trade rumors amen. this royals guy is gonna blow it. nothing like a pitcher from the royals costing the AL home field in the WS.
  4. whew...i need uggla's psyche intact for my second half fantasy push.
  5. wow, i thought that throw was going in the third row.
  6. it's pretty obvious that whether it be brett favre, yankee stadium, josh hamilton, or whatever...a lot of people on this board don't want to hear about anything on sportscenter other than the chicago cubs.
  7. to protect your kids? no, I usually don't take the kids. a 5 and 2 year old tend to get bored after about 1/2 an inning so why do you bring it? i'm not making fun of you (in this thread, at least), i just don't understand the psyche of a gloved baseball fan. I used to have season tickets for the local Short-A minor league team. My seats were 3 rows behind the 3rd base dugout, so a lot of foul balls (both liners and pop ups) headed our way. Again, I hardly bring one anymore, I just don't understand why someone shouldn't. The only reason I've heard is "it's not impressive to catch a ball with a glove" and "because it's dumb" i guess my reason would be because it's not a very...i don't know, "grown up" thing to do? i mean, if you want you can put a quarter in those rides outside of the grocery store and ride them when you're 33 years old you can, and i guess my reasoning for why you shouldn't would be something along the lines of "because it's dumb." so if you're looking for something beyond that, i don't know what to tell you. it just seems like an odd thing for a grown up to do simply because i find it strange that a grown up would care about getting a foul ball. I don't really care, which is why I don't bring it much anymore. that said, the people who are catching the foul ball with their bare hands are still catching a foul ball, so how are they any better (per your P.O.V.?) i mean, a ball is flying toward you...what are you supposed to do? i don't think those people are going to the game thinking "oh boy, i'm going to catch a foul ball" like people who bring their glove apparently are. it's not even really comparable.

  10. yeah, and your argument comparing fans with gloves to players with gloves was air tight. about as airtight as "every adult with a glove is a mouth-breather who just wants autographs and will steal balls from kids" i just can't imagine going through the hassle of lugging around a glove to catch a foul ball because a) who wants to carry a glove around a ballpark all day? and b) who wants a foul ball? since you're defending glove wearers, i'm guessing you bring your glove to the ballpark...so why do you do it? To protect young kids from getting hit in the head with a line drive and suffering a fractured skull? Actually, I've never brought one with me just because it's a hassle. Now that I have a kid though, I'm brining one with me every time once he's old enough to go with me. where the hell are you people sitting??? and wherever it is, sit someplace else if you have kids that can't protect themselves.
  11. i don't buy that people bring gloves to games as protection.
  12. man, you are like 0 for the week. surely you have something better to do than keep score well, i'm still at 0, so it hasn't been too much work.
  13. man, you are like 0 for the week. obviously the cubs had no intention of drafting/keeping hamilton. but that doesn't change the fact that the cubs could have drafted/kept hamilton. so imagining the cubs with hamilton is not as crazy as you people are making it out to be.

  16. You can't just look at the runs scored to determine a bottom line. i wasn't. i was looking at the baserunners he allowed, and that number was actually pretty good in 3 out of his 5 starts.
  17. at this point, who cares about how quick he is to the plate? he was very slow to the plate last year and he did just fine. tinkering with his motion to speed up his delivery was probably what started this whole mess.
  18. Right. Because nothing was in the strike zone. It's encouraging that he's throwing more strikes, but it's against a really low level of competition. the level of competition is really irrelevant. whether it was albert pujols or a cardboard cutout standing at home plate, his problem was throwing strikes. it'd be one thing if he couldn't throw strikes AND he was getting hit all over the place, but that clearly wasn't the case.
  19. looking back at hill's game log, it is kind of surprising how short his leash was. 6 ip, 4 h, 3 bb, 2 er (good) 3 ip, 3 h, 4 bb, 3 er (bad) 5 ip, 3 h, 3 bb, 1 er (good) 5 ip, 3 h, 4 bb, 2 er (decent) 2/3 ip, 0 h, 4 bb, 1 er (terrible) now obviously things fell apart once he went down to AAA and maybe he was heading toward a collapse the whole time, but other than failing to get out of the first inning once, he certainly never killed the cubs in any of his starts. and even in that start, he only allowed one run. certainly his walk rate was unacceptable, but when you consider how few hits he gave up, it wasn't a disaster or anything.
  20. opponents were hitting .191 against hill this year, fyi.
  21. i like "headcase" as hill's new nickname. "one pitch" was getting old.
  22. Until they have Gallardo back, they're not completely healthy. well, they're not getting him back this year, so they're as healthy as they're going to get this season.
