There’s been a lot of failed guys let go by the bears. Have any of them either returned to or achieved greater success than they did with the Bears? They generally don’t let good ones get away, with the possible exception of position coaches (Staley) and coordinators (Rivera) moving onto greater things.

I’m having second thoughts on my take from last year, when I assumed Poles actively tanked. I think maybe he thought the team would be considerably better and then just stumbled into the top pick.

The bye week is week 13, after a MNF game in Minnesota. You will not find a staff at that time. you will not get any good coaches in here during the season. The most likely scenario is Getsy gets canned and the QB coach takes the position on an interim basis. Best case scenario is Eberflus is canned and some rando position coach gets the interim tag. Maybe Jon Hoke gets that gig as one of the most experienced coaches.

A quintessential “only airing in the home markets” matchup here as the networks start to learn some lessons they should have known months ago. everybody knows Poles and Eberflus have failed miserably and are in way over their heads. Getsy and Fields are right there with them. But I’d like to give honorable mention to the Chicago sports media that bought into this team with exactly zero evidence that things were improving. people assumed a defensive minded head coach could improve the defense, just by being a guy that cares about that side of the ball? We have to realize that 4-3 Tampa 2 defenses do not thrive by schemes. That style of defense requires dominant pass rush ability and tremendous depth at all three levels. If there are weaknesses, they are easily exploited. Bend but don’t break doesn’t work if all you do is the bend portion. You can’t coach your way out of lack of talent. A loss here means going into a short week road trip at 0-4 and this team does not strike me as a bounce back on short notice group. A veteran QB should be able to take advantage of this garbage team. Denver was embarrassed this week but the difference is they actually acknowledged the embarrassment and will probably come out to compete. The Bears have their head in the sand and do not seem to realize how bad they are. it’s gonna be ugly folks but the weather should be nice. Go outside and enjoy the fall while you can. Are they more talented on paper? Why? Just because the players are new? These are players selected by Poles and so far exactly zero of them look good. Last year still had remnants of Pace’s actually talented teams that were flawed and poorly coached. The team took a huge step back in talent by not bringing in any last season and this years crop is bringing nothing to the table.

Not crazy but maybe a little goofy? I could see him return as a placeholder QB in a year where a new GM and HC choose to pick a developmental guy who they don’t want to start in week 1 with a horrible roster. But he won’t be “given” another year. Instead of going out and spending on a free agent they just pay fields his final year contract to start a handful of games.

I assume that like last year they won’t beat an established NFL QB. It’s just too easy for them to slice and dice this defense and the offense can’t make up the difference. Vegas will be hard with Jimmy. Denver is possible with Wilson sucking, but they have to look at the bears as a chance to get right.

Put the popcorn down. It’s probably not going to be entertaining. And there is nothing “weird” about the timing. The situation here reminds me of something that happened at my kids school. A teacher missed some time for personal reasons and was subsequently gone from the school with minimal comment from administrators. There were all sorts of rumors but nothing confirmed. Months later he was arrested for “sexting” a teenager in another state. The school knew what happened but obviously could not divulge with an ongoing investigation.

I assumed nyc market was getting the Dallas game at 4:25 this week but my guide is showing the bears chiefs game. Thankfully I have conflicts and won’t have to sit through it but might just watch on fast forward to see how bad it gets.

No beat writer or radio host is going to have this story, but there are a lot of investigative journalists in the sports world that are probably all over this story right now. The athletic employs a few people that have reported on sex crime situations across the sports spectrum. ESPN has fired their best but still have people capable of looking at this story with journalistic integrity. this isn’t some D3 coach quietly pushed aside in a one stoplight town. There are people in sports journalism that can get this story and also plenty of journalists working at publications that have sports sections that can do the job. nobody thinks Zach Zeidman is breaking up the story
