    I heard that interview. It didn't go well. Coomer didn't seem "into it", lots of "Ummm" and "you know" and they made fun of him when the interview was over. They speculated that he was a little nervous and didn't know if it would cause issues doing an interview with a competitor station. I wasn't listening closely and it didn't sound that bad to me but Holmes, Spiegs and the producer weren't as kind. It wouldn't surprise me in any way if Coomer refused to do anything else with the score after hearing their discussion after he hung up. The only people more catty about their own kind than radio "personalities" are comedians and teenage girls.

    Where did I say to ignore them? I'm saying to pay attention to them as what they are...really great numbers against a really bad defense. Until then McCown struggled to get much done in the red zone, and this one game means he and the coaches have suddenly figured it out instead of what it was, which was a terrible defense letting guys get open? Do you preferred to be served in a hero or on a plate with pasta?

    No reason to say "no contact". A guy running through home plate who brushes by the catcher should not be penalized. You can't lower your shoulder.

    I think you are forgetting that the Bears only had 4 wins when Cutler was injured, and now they have 7. Would you prefer a 4-9 record instead of 7-6?

    Hey, he doesn't have any biases against Cutler. Some of his best friends are extremely talented quarterbacks with attitude problems and too much confidence to write checks his diva wide receivers can't cash.

    He had two bad passes. You can't hold Marshall and get in a position to make an interception and then say that was a bad throw. But yeah he had two bad passes. And his idiot play against Minnesota that cost us the game. Lets not forget that. Because that was as dumb a decision as you'll ever see. Was that not a "mistake", but a clever ploy to get Kyle Long a reception? Nor his inability to throw a TD in the red zone unless his receiver has nobody within 5 yards of him. And yet, when Cutler has good passes bobbled by Earl Bennett or deflected on a fluke and picked off, it's his fault. It's not Earl's fault that Jay throws too hard while McCown gently places the ball in his receivers' hands.

What about the bad throw that ruined their opportunity to win in MIN with a wide open receiver who was only able to gain yard, forcing a 700 yard field goal attempt?

    Well one...why would what the NFL does have bearing on the MLB? You don't think they can judge a collision at home plate because they can't figure out what a catch is in the NFL? And two, this is (apparently) the same rule that is already in play at 3 other bases. Are you outraged over those? No faith does not equal outrage. Collisions at home plate are not equal to making a catch in football. Collisions at home plate can be considered somewhat equal to collisions in football, like the defenseless receiver rule or contacting the qb at the shoulder or above or down at the knees. When a guys foot gets tangled up on the slide, the umpiring crew will have to make a determination as to whether the runner caused the contact with a questionable slide or the catcher caused the contact with a partial blockage of the plate. If you think these will just be simple black and white calls, you are likely mistaken. Calls like this are subjective as to intent, and they blow those constantly with the new rules in football. I don't really see how they can avoid it in baseball. The umpires blow calls in baseball now as it is and now they have something else they have to watch for, which probably means more missed close calls at the plate. So you think these guys will have their feet get tangled up while sliding and the result will be similar to the big collisions they are trying to get rid of?

    they haven't specified the rule so it is hard to say what has been banned exactly. As for the first part, I have no idea.

    I think it's pretty simple. You won't be able to hunker down in front of the plate. And the runner won't be allowed to go in like a fullback making a hole. He'll have to slide or run through the base. There will probably be a handful of collisions where the calls will be split between blaming the runner and blaming the catcher and after a few years it will hardly be an issue.

    percentage of pass attempts > 15 yards Cutler: 21.4% McCown: 16.8% So a difference of 2 a game? Not meaningful.

    Yeah, deep was wrong. Over 15 yards past the line of scrimmage is more accurate. But my point was if McCown can throw for 350 3x in a row doing it, then why not keep Cutler on that same playbook if it also helps protect him from being hurt again. McCown was throwing 15 yards past the line of scrimmage. He wasn't Orton out there. He had a higher YPA and YPC than Cutler.

    Was Jay really attempting a bunch of really deep throws? The 17 yard pass is where the bread is buttered in this offense. Jay throws that pass well, and I don't see much of a change coming.
