  1. Pray tell why that is? Is it verboten to criticize "the process"? Of course not. But there's a difference between reasonable criticism and literally every post being doom and gloom, in every forum and thread. It's so tiresome by this point. Well at least you are literally pointing a realistic portrait of reality.
  2. Their careers are going to be much more ruined if he goes somewhere else and is even just "Matt Stafford good" than if they draft him and he stinks. They are basically banking their reputations on the fact that he is going to be a bust somewhere ele. South Texas will never forgive those guys if he turns out to be a good QB. As far as the fans go, Clowney is going to have be the second coming of Deacon Jones to offset Johnny being good somewhere else. Fair point on the jersey sales. Nobody cares about the opinion of the yokels. If he goes somewhere else and does okay, but they do just fine with their pick, they will not suffer in the least in the eyes of the people who matter.
  3. the downside is that you wasted a pick on a bad QB. That sort of thing sets back franchises for years and ruins careers. "Paying for it" has absolutely no value. Jersey sales goes to everybody else.
  4. Even though ESPN hasn't had hockey in a long time now he's still the "voice of national broadcast hockey" for me and it's still weird for me to hear him do other sports. I remember when he was doing hockey and the Mets at the same time. I thought he was pretty good back then.
  5. Oh shut up Garza, you jerkface.
  6. So were you assuming 2015 would be the year he suddenly takes on a full starter's load? Or never? What is the doom from last year you speak of as being wrong?
  7. I think it does a disservice to Shawon Dunston if you ask me.
  8. I'm not sure many people thought it was "great". But it was more or less necessary. Soriano probably wasn't a great signing way back when, but that too was more or less necessary when the team had no chance at getting outfield production from other sources.
  9. Holy crap, he makes $5 million? I didn't know this team had $5 million players.
  10. Down to 0.6 fWAR for his Cubs' career. Can we call that a failed signing? The signing was ok, they just didn't get rid of him last season when they should have when his numbers weren't awful. So an ok signing and a bad non-trade?
  11. I think it matters to get them out of their homeland.
  12. They have been able to refurbish a couple, but they can't expect to refurbish 2-3 per year. They had the money, they had the need and they had no other options but to sign somebody who could be relatively counted on to make every start.
  13. Last year SEC teams played at Indiana, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Miami, Oregon, Texas, Alabama played Virginia Tech in Atlanta, and Mississippi State played Oklahoma State in Houston This year SEC teams will play at Clemson, Florida State, Oklahoma, Louisville, Kansas State, Texas Tech, and LSU is playing Wisconsin in Houston LSU facing Wisconsin in Houston is not really a road game. It's certainly not a home game. Baton Rouge is about 5 hours away. In any case, I doubt that this fact would cause Wisconsin to tell the SEC to [expletive] off in the future. And how far away is Madison?

  15. You're talking about finding 14 opponents among 4 conferences. It probably would not be difficult to find enough weak teams within those conferences willing to play.
  16. I believe the rule is that essentially, if the starting pitcher leaves with the lead prior to the 5th and the team maintains that lead for the game, it becomes up to the scorekeeper's discretion to award the win to whatever reliever comes in and "earns" it.
  17. I think they knew they had no other options but to go out and buy some starting pitching, since you need 5 just to start and 7 or 8 over a season. They needed a body just to make the starts and account for the innings.
  18. I believe the NHL wants to try and start series on Fri and Sat with some game 2 action on Sunday. It could depend on potential scheduling conflicts at certain arenas.
  19. Austin Seferian-Jenkins, TE, Washington Would probably lean toward receiver at this spot but there's been a bit of run on them and they could really make use of a TE. Maybe some people have Amaro ranked higher, but Jace is a stupid name.
