    If you mean in any given series, then kinda. A 30-40% chance of getting upset is a pretty big number. If you mean by winning it all, then no, not really. The Cards and Red Sox both had the best records in their league last year. The last team that happened(top records meeting in the WS) was 1999. The key, it really is important to field the best team possible. Easier to make the playoffs in the first place. Easier to withstand setbacks along the way. Doesn't leave you desperate to make costly additions when you are barely on the cusp. Gives you the advantage if any individual playoff matchup. This goes back to my hatred of MacPhail's (maybe a Lynch quote, but pretty sure it was MacPhail) goal to "competing within the division", which to me was way too low of a goal. You have to expect setbacks, and falling short of competing within your division more likely than not means you will fall way short of competing with the rest of the league.

    i'm just saying that i hate the fact that no matter how good we make the team we have just a 1 in whatever crapshoot (depends how you get in) chance to win the world series. you hope to get enough tries to make it happen but it still comes down to that bs. obviously, it's nice if you sneak in with like an 86 win team or something. Well, that still wouldn't bother me. I'd rather rely on the odds of winning playoff series once I'm in them than rely on the odds that a bunch of prospects all hit their marks at the right time to make this team competitive.

    so the fact that another financially strong team signed a free agent from another team that signs a ton of free agents makes you think it supports your idea that it will be easy for the Cubs to sign free agents? No, the fact that you think it isnt possible makes me think your doom boner is so big that it blocks your view of reality. We will have the money to sign free agents, we will have the need to sign free agents, we will sign free agents. I am sorry that you guys are so wrong, it breaks my heart. $300 bet that the cubs have signed at least one high profile free agent and made two trades that bring impact talent to the major league team before opening day of 2016? Keep changing your story. You said it will be easy to sign free agents. I never said it will be impossible to sign any free agent.
