  1. With the number of DTs available, one of them should fall to 51. Jernigan might have a better chance than the others because of failed drug test. i thought hageman failed the test Everybody got high in Indy. http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/glazer-mettenberger-jernigan-failed-drug-tests-at-combine-050514
  2. your post is pretty [expletive] stupid to me perception is reality
  3. Yeah, after two first round "risks" the last two years, he might've felt like he needed to play it safer this year. With one of those (and the most recent) having worked out very well, not sure why that would be his reasoning. I don't think he went safe in direct response to 2012/2013, but rather now that it is his third draft he takes full ownership of 2014 results and he needed a guy he was reasonably assured could produce from day 1.
  4. This is true. He's clearly set to play a whole bunch in his rookie season, even if he does not fit on an old fashioned depth chart as a "starter". It actually fits in exactly with all the other signings Emery made, which seem designed to make the defense defense, if not particularly great.
  5. I feel like this was a bit of a safety pick. Fuller seems to fit the part of a guy who can play in the NFL and hold his own, but he does not look like a difference maker. Kind of interesting to me that Emery took a guy that does not have impressive measurables, given what many (including myself) interpreted as an obsession with stand out physical presence. He likes 'em big and fast and while this guy isn't small, he's not a beast and he's not fast. I guess the ability and willingness to tackle is what stood out the most. I can't bemoan "missing" on a safety. Outside of the very few elite, those pieces are interchangeable. And as others have pointed out, improvement on the line will make the safeties less of an issue.
  6. Dan Jiggets does not look like a healthy man.
  7. Manziel is going to crash and burn. Probably could not have asked for a better destination for him to fail. But that is true about how he phrased that. Maybe "possible franchise QB" is better. Probably more accurate, at least. EDIT: It's basically opportunity cost. The Browns had an opportunity to have Bridgewater and, say, Bishop Sankey or Andre Williams. Instead, they have only Manziel, who isn't as good as Bridgewater and has a higher likelihood of not becoming a franchise QB. That's worse than simply taking a good player earlier than you should. The goal is to put together the best team possible and the Browns hindered themselves more toward achieving that goal than the Eagles did by taking a lesser player than other options but not giving up a very valuable pick to do so. While that makes sense, the idea with QBs is you pick the one you think is best. They aren't irreplaceable parts.
  8. what is dead may never die
  9. nah man we're in a good spot. emery and trestman is a top 5 brain trust in the NFL I hesitate to go that high, but they are good.
  10. I think LB is much easier to hide your weaknesses. The Giants won a SB with nothing but street garbage playing LB.
  11. Manziel is going to crash and burn. Probably could not have asked for a better destination for him to fail. But that is true about how he phrased that.
  12. Mack was good, Bridgewater to Vikings was pretty huge.
  13. Pete Carroll, the preeminent mind in all of football, disagrees Pete Carroll does not have a mind.
  14. Really? You think Tillman will teach him how to take his job?
  15. It was a financial wash, I believe. We ate all of it except for how much Volstad was due to make, give or take a few hundred thousand. But they did get to write off the cost of that lunch.
  16. They haven't really tried to get MLB ready players though. I vaguely remember a time when near-MLB ready prospects was a thing that was considered the focal point, but I don't think that lasted.
  17. I'd go so far as to say it's preferable. The only downside is that dumbass fans read into everything an athlete says, and player meatball statements can therefore further instill meatballism and all of its ills into the unwashed masses of fandom. But then again, there will always be dumbass fans. And if the player says non-meatball things those same fans and media members will ride him for being soft or something.
  18. I'd go so far as to say it's preferable. Yeah, that's why it is on the manager to pull starting pitchers w/o asking how the guy feels. Asking how he feels is pointless. The idea that Mark Prior would have told Baker he needed to come out earlier JUST BURNS ME UP.
  19. http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2014-mock-draft-track-record-lands-rodon-atop-first-mock/ Really, BA? Drafting for current major league need in the first round? Say it ain't so. I don't think that is necessarily drafting for current major league need. MLB network talks about current MLB need when airing the draft, but the idea that the Cubs need to draft a pitcher is more based on the widely acknowledged description of the organization being bat heavy and pitching light. They shouldn't focus on need at all, but there's a bit of a difference when considering the overall organizational need, and not just major league roster.
  20. we should have a gams thread
  21. [expletive] that. They aren't going to be embarrassed into trying. I'd rather they just win a game.
  22. Don't know when Shark went all gritty and old school, but managers and GM's tend to love that kind of talk. Where have you been? He's always spouted this kind of stuff. Yeah, that is par for the course.
