I think he is saying the Bears need for a safety ranks higher than almost any other team's needs for any given position. That is crazy when you consider how many teams need an NFL caliber QB, and the fact that the Bears need for safety may not rank ahead of their need for dtackle, or possibly LB.

The versatility talk is about how he can play outside as well as in the slot, cover tight ends and receivers, plus make tackles on run plays and blitz. It's not about being a safety.

He's not moving to safety and playing nickel will give plenty of playing time in his rookie year. You are very dismissive of nickel backs despite the necessity of using them all the time.

It's weird because this is the first time the Bears have taken exactly who I wanted. Fuller's probably my second favorite high round pick in the last five years besides Alshon Jeffery (good call) and just ahead of the Gabe Carimi pick (whoops). That was how I felt about Bryant last year. I can't remember but I think David Terrell may be the last time that happened for me with the Bears.

I think you are misinterpreting what people have said. I see a couple people who hate the pick because he wasn't a safety, some people who really like it and some who are just fine with it.

You cannot make "need" that important in a draft.

With the number of DTs available, one of them should fall to 51. Jernigan might have a better chance than the others because of failed drug test. Not sure all will last to 51, so when two remain Emery should start casually working the phones and as soon as only one is left, look to be aggressive and jump up. That's assuming of course his boards look something like the consensus boards. For all we know he will like a LB in that range over the DL.
