Why do you have to make this personal about other fans? I am not a paid professional baseball man. I have weighed in on countless options to have done something different. I'm not going to lay out a hindsight blueprint for how I would have done better. It's a really weak response for fans to say, "Oh you don't like how they did it, you do better". It's no different from responding to people who say Darwin Barney sucks with, "well I'd like to see you do better." It has nothing to do with anything. The point of baseball is to be better than the 29 other organizations that all employ other "experts" and field teams with players who could do better than any fan. The one thing I would have done differently from Rickett's perspective is fire Hendry on day one. There was no reason not to know a change had to be made and there was no reason why he could not have had another group of smart guys take over. These guys have provided zero above average return. Hendry did a [expletive] job taking advantage of the situation the Cubs were in. But he did not doom these guys to losing 90+ for several seasons. That was a choice made by the current regime. It is long past time to be placing blame on Hendry for the current state of affairs. -
Tom, Theo and Jed took a course. They aren't my commanding officers. I am not obliged to pretend it was a good decision or withhold criticism. You're still acting like they CHOSE this. PTR "may" have, Jed and Theo had no choice. And just once, because Kyle has certainly obliged, lets actually here what YOU would have done differently. Tried.

Everything is [expletive], based on the fact that this team is still [expletive] many years after regime change and is not anywhere close to being good. My post was about the pathetic insistence on the apologists to place all the blame for the current state of affairs on people not currently affiliated with the Cubs and grossly exaggerating the lack of young talent that was here pre-Theo. Why do you get so upset with fans who aren't happy with a bad team?

He is basing it off of what he has perceived to be countless stories of amazing minor league fielders not holding up. I think it is similar to how every new hitting/pitching coach is some genius who will make everybody better and how every 55 year old "lifer" is a great baseball man that will bring a reservoir of knowledge that is somehow differentiated from everybody else.

That is pretty much how the baseball world worked, and failed, for decades before smart people supposedly figured out better ways to do things. If there were better information at our disposal, I'd go with that. Kyle's opinion does not qualify, however. All of those people have an agenda to push, including Kyle.

The age old "Scouts vs. some vague thing Kyle started saying" debate. No, the "people who have seen him play a weekend series say it is so" and "I read a vague quote about it 2 years ago and assume both that it was accurate and that it is still true".

I am generally not somebody who just assumes a prospect will be good until he fails. I like to see a prospect do well before giving him credit for being good. And the Vitters commentary was as much about the inability to stay on the field as it was about being a completely underwhelming bat. And what Almora had done in the minors until the last few weeks did not qualify as doing well? It hasn't impressed me.

And this was all done with 100% focus on just building the farm system. That is the easy part. The hard part is winning at the major league level. It is beyond pathetic to still be blaming the previous regime for the state of the current team. It's a joke.

My guess is Soler was an omission and Almora(6th pick) was "earned" by the previous regime. Also Almora isn't an impactful talent. Soler has like 17 professional at bats in three years. Almora has had a far to Vitters-esque start to his career and there is still questions about how much of an impact he'll ever have.

He put the ball in play, didn't he? We reward hitters for putting the ball in play and getting lucky all the time. We reward them for putting the ball in play and reaching base despite the best effort and execution of the defender, not defensive mistakes.
