I've theorized that this might be the case which is why I don't buy that the bust rates going back 25 or 30 years on prospect lists are really all that accurate. Are they really getting better at ranking prospects or are teams getting better at not [expletive] them up? The old ways of doing things in baseball have been dying for about the same amount of time that this study looks at. -
i think Olt's OBP will come up. and the fact that he hits home runs greatly helps our chances of winning games. In the games he actually hits homeruns, sure. The fact that he only hits homeruns but makes a ton of outs doesn't help them win many games. He has good discipline and will take walks. The OBP is coming up now. He'll have a 10% walk rate soon enough. He may hit between .200-.220, but the OBP will be fine. Whatever you theorize it "will be", it is .257 and that is terrible and that is a part of the reason the team OBP is only .300 and is part of the reason why they've lost so many games.

The run differential is "odd" but explainable by the presence of guys like Olt and Lake on the team. In any given PA, they can look like terrific major league hitters; Lake especially just looks like he murders the ball on occasion while Olt can hit some bombs, and that is how you occasionally put up crooked numbers. But they have .250 OBPs and over the long haul will just kill a lineup doing that.

Would it be fair to the pitcher to charge him with giving up a hit when he didn't? More fair. It was his team that wasn't able to record an out. Seeing-eye grounders and bloop singles suck for the pitcher, too, but no out is recorded. I don't lose any sleep over this or anything, I just didn't realize till last night that it still counted as a fielder's choice if they don't get an out. Seemed weird to me. I completely disagree with the idea that it would be "more" fair. The point is that the result of that pitch/swing/contact combo should result in an out of the batter with normal defensive effort. The lack of an out being recorded does not make a hit.

big dude, big leg...but yea, he better be really good if you're going to waste a pick on him. He should be able to brush Podlesh aside without any problems. At least there's that. I don't need to see Podlesh punt for the Bears again. Podlesh is already gone. The big question is what happens to Butthead Jr.
