  1. Psh, whatever. Matt Guerrier is so much better. He has a record of 12-9 plus 1 save over his last 21 games?
  2. Dan Pompei is with sportsonearth now and participated in a 3-way mock draft. http://www.sportsonearth.com/article/73305070/nfl-mock-draft-2014-houston-texans-jadeveon-clowney-khalil-mack-johnny-manziel Round one: Round 2:
  3. Don't they bitch about the preparations for almost every Olympic city/World Cup country that isn't in Europe or North America? I mean I kind of like seeing Rio get knocked a bit because I thought Chicago would have been a better host city (and I'm obviously very biased) but I'm sure they will be fine. I would not assume that at all. Brazil is a mess, and Rio specifically is a horribly run city. They don't have the control over their population that China has, and their plutocracy is not as powerful as Russia's. Rio was always going to be a likely poorly run site.
  4. Too bad there isn't a great QB available.
  5. http://www.news-journalonline.com/article/20140428/SPORTS/140429479?p=1&tc=pg Bruce Miles retweeted this Almora story from Daytona.
  6. It's already been 5 days since Samardzija pitched? I feel like that was Friday.

  8. Bryce Harper has been batting 7th?
  9. I'm sorry but that does not make any sense. The minor league forum only exists as a place for discussion because of the potential for these players to one day help the Cubs. You cannot reasonably expect any conversation about the minor leagues without the ebb and flow of their perceived value playing a part. And these things always derail the most when people whine about how other fans go about fanning. If some aspect of the discussion bothers people it should be on them to ignore it, or at the very least stay out of it.
  10. Sure that is true. But you are still talking about likely spending a good 2-3 years coming to the conclusion that the guy won't work out.
  11. Call me crazy but I think people are venting about the combination of the major league team being even worse than expected plus the minor leaguers failing to show positive signs. I don't think everybody is "this" down on them as much as just pointing out how stupid the idea of depending on several prospects all succeeding at the same time to be how you did yourself out of the repetitive 90 loss hole. When somebody points out the entirely reasonable idea that the base assumption for any one prospect is that he will fail, that person is ridiculed as a doom and gloomer instead of just being realistic. Many of these guys are going to fail hard. None of these future rosters that are littered with current prospects are going to be both accurate and very good.
  12. It was a pretty ridiculous rotation. And I'm sorry, but suggesting that CJ missing a big chunk of time and failing to extend his innings totals this season is not a big deal is just naive. It is a big deal. It's not franchise destroying, but it is a big deal in the analysis of CJ's potential value to this team. The question with him has always been about stamina and his questionable ability to handle a starter's load. Dealing with fatigure now is bad. There is no reason to pretend that isn't bad news.
  13. Pray tell why that is? Is it verboten to criticize "the process"? Of course not. But there's a difference between reasonable criticism and literally every post being doom and gloom, in every forum and thread. It's so tiresome by this point. Well at least you are literally pointing a realistic portrait of reality.
  14. Their careers are going to be much more ruined if he goes somewhere else and is even just "Matt Stafford good" than if they draft him and he stinks. They are basically banking their reputations on the fact that he is going to be a bust somewhere ele. South Texas will never forgive those guys if he turns out to be a good QB. As far as the fans go, Clowney is going to have be the second coming of Deacon Jones to offset Johnny being good somewhere else. Fair point on the jersey sales. Nobody cares about the opinion of the yokels. If he goes somewhere else and does okay, but they do just fine with their pick, they will not suffer in the least in the eyes of the people who matter.
  15. the downside is that you wasted a pick on a bad QB. That sort of thing sets back franchises for years and ruins careers. "Paying for it" has absolutely no value. Jersey sales goes to everybody else.
  16. Even though ESPN hasn't had hockey in a long time now he's still the "voice of national broadcast hockey" for me and it's still weird for me to hear him do other sports. I remember when he was doing hockey and the Mets at the same time. I thought he was pretty good back then.
  17. Oh shut up Garza, you jerkface.
  18. So were you assuming 2015 would be the year he suddenly takes on a full starter's load? Or never? What is the doom from last year you speak of as being wrong?
  19. I think it does a disservice to Shawon Dunston if you ask me.
