  1. I'm not sure many people thought it was "great". But it was more or less necessary. Soriano probably wasn't a great signing way back when, but that too was more or less necessary when the team had no chance at getting outfield production from other sources.
  2. Holy crap, he makes $5 million? I didn't know this team had $5 million players.
  3. Down to 0.6 fWAR for his Cubs' career. Can we call that a failed signing? The signing was ok, they just didn't get rid of him last season when they should have when his numbers weren't awful. So an ok signing and a bad non-trade?
  4. I think it matters to get them out of their homeland.
  5. They have been able to refurbish a couple, but they can't expect to refurbish 2-3 per year. They had the money, they had the need and they had no other options but to sign somebody who could be relatively counted on to make every start.
  6. Last year SEC teams played at Indiana, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Miami, Oregon, Texas, Alabama played Virginia Tech in Atlanta, and Mississippi State played Oklahoma State in Houston This year SEC teams will play at Clemson, Florida State, Oklahoma, Louisville, Kansas State, Texas Tech, and LSU is playing Wisconsin in Houston LSU facing Wisconsin in Houston is not really a road game. It's certainly not a home game. Baton Rouge is about 5 hours away. In any case, I doubt that this fact would cause Wisconsin to tell the SEC to [expletive] off in the future. And how far away is Madison?

  8. You're talking about finding 14 opponents among 4 conferences. It probably would not be difficult to find enough weak teams within those conferences willing to play.
  9. I believe the rule is that essentially, if the starting pitcher leaves with the lead prior to the 5th and the team maintains that lead for the game, it becomes up to the scorekeeper's discretion to award the win to whatever reliever comes in and "earns" it.
  10. I think they knew they had no other options but to go out and buy some starting pitching, since you need 5 just to start and 7 or 8 over a season. They needed a body just to make the starts and account for the innings.
  11. I believe the NHL wants to try and start series on Fri and Sat with some game 2 action on Sunday. It could depend on potential scheduling conflicts at certain arenas.
  12. Austin Seferian-Jenkins, TE, Washington Would probably lean toward receiver at this spot but there's been a bit of run on them and they could really make use of a TE. Maybe some people have Amaro ranked higher, but Jace is a stupid name.
  13. Not so far today. Total domination. Gotta get another one. You might be seeing something I am not, but Saad has mishandled almost every puck I have seen him touch this series. Beats not even trying to touch the puck.
  14. During the mountain climbing ad my daughter was very excited to see the blackhawks flag at the end.
  15. Versteeg out, joakim noah in?
  16. I'm sure he could find a doctor to prescribe something for that.
  17. I don't think I've ever seen a breakaway like that in futbol, where a defender slips and the play is essentially over right there.
  18. Why? Management's job is to maximized the team's chances of winning. Trading veterans for prospects is just a very small part of that. Anybody can succeed in building up a "system" when that is the only focus.
  19. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! This isn't a thing. This was never a thing. You aren't being brave by disagreeing with a line of thinking that never existed. People wanted them to spend more money to help win more games, because losing this many games sucks [expletive] balls. And losing this many games was inevitable when they got into the taking a dive business. It is amazing how easy it is to lose lots of games if you actively try to avoid winning.
  20. And then turded out in AAA and didn't have Bryant's draft pedigree. I wouldn't have shouted down anyone who said they liked Bryant more before the season, either. He did receive 34 votes for that honor on this site.
  21. Maybe he's just not good enough that we should care whether he gets that playing time. Then bring up Bryant. It's an insult to my intelligence that they act like they're protecting some elite talent with Olt. Throw him to the wolves or stop pretending he's still a prospect. Right? I never interpreted their use of Olt as anything resembling "protecting an elite talent." How are they insulting your intelligence?
  22. Cody Latimer starting offense. Don't know much about him but it looks like a consensus is building that he's climbing boards, and receivers are starling to come off the board. Plus that name, can't pass on it.
