  1. probably
  2. $$, sure close enough - not worth quibbling over. Years? Nooooooot even close to FA pricing, and that is massive. Time is just as important as money on pitchers, if not waaaaaaay more important. Again, having Hamels from 32-35 is not really better than having someone like Price from 30-36. You're cutting out a big chunk of the good with a similar ramp for decline. And that's if they're equivalent pitchers, which in this case they are not. You are making a huge and likely incorrect assumption about Price's contract.
  3. Nailed it. The point here is Hamels contract is not a benefit v. his peers that are potentially available. The message is not 'woah, spending money is bad', the message is 'Hamels doesn't get extra credit for already being on the back half of his megadeal given his age'. And I completely disagree with you, because his contract is a fixed cost that is not unreasonable and free agent pitchers can only get more expensive and difficult to sign.
  4. yes even more reason to make me hope and dream they do something with starlin, but how do you bench your "franchise" shortstop / veteran? if they cant trade him im a fan of the "hey dude you just got hurt go hang with your kids for a while" 60 day dl Interesting. Because to me, I'd think it would be even more insulting to ask Castro to fake an injury and watch the rest of the season from home rather than telling him he no longer is starting every day but still will be counted on to help the team. But maybe that's just me. Maybe it's just me, but to me, in my opinion, this makes sense.
  5. False. Hamels already having pitched his age 30 and 31 seasons before he joins your team is not a feature compared to [your favorite big contract SP alternative]. Lester already pitched his age 30 season and I'm sure as [expletive] glad he's on the team now.
  6. So is he saying it's something that just needs a long rest period or something that will need surgery to get to 100%? I'm guessing it's a cross between the former, and just the general "a catcher is always banged up to some degree during the season and 100% is a moving target".
  7. that was close probably the right call, but close
  8. To be sure...... everybody get ready to squeeze your OWN butt checks, eh? whatever floats your boat
  9. I do not get why people talk about twitter this way. The site is under a decade old and this same [expletive] has gone on for decades. This is a link to a website citing beat writers quoting team execs from multiple platforms. This stuff is what happens every trading deadline and it has happened since long before twitter existed.
  10. That's what I hate most about it. People excuse it because, 'hey, you tried', when in fact you ran yourself out of an opportunity. But where I disagree is that you are coming at it from the perspective that it fails every single time when it fact it works out more than it doesn't. It needs to work out more than just "more than it doesn't" to justify it and today they are 0-2. There is also no justification to be doing it with Schwarber, Bryant and Rizzo coming up and nobody out.

  12. Please. Had both been safe you'd love it. Please. they were both out by a mile Fowler was not out by a mile and the Rockies just got lucky that the pitch was so bad it was almost a pitch out. The ball beat him by a mile. And stealing is not the least bit exciting to me even if they are safe. It's why I don't get all up and arms like the ninnies that freak about Lester's pickoffs. Make your outs at the plate, not on the bases.

  15. I was not aware that Kevin White was injured and PUP listable
  16. but let's pretend it's just "being aggressive" and therefore excusable
  17. Nah, they've been expected to get 2 starters. Everyone seems to think Hamels winds up in Texas though. It needs to be mentioned how [expletive] broke this CBA is though. The poor Marlins selling off the 34th pick to the Dodgers is just pathetic. Basically to get them to take the Morse contract. How does that make for a broke CBA? The Marlins will do anything for a buck.
  18. We have the money next year and the relationship with Maddon. That would make my day. That's a pretty huge assumption. There's no doubt they have it. It's whether or not the powers that be want to spend it.
  19. he's obviously reaching back to tag the foot after missing the shoulder
