  2. People are spazzing out because the Dodgers "bought" a fairly meaningless pick in the 30s. Wait until they "pay" $25m for the 3rd overall pick to the Marlins or something. They have the means to block any trade that involves money changing hands.
  3. Where am I spazzing out? All I want them to do is to improve their chances this season because they're a competitive team and it irks me when Cubs fans act like they shouldn't bother because the offense has struggled. The FO has assured us they'd make those type of moves when they were competitive, so it's hardly an unrealistic expectation. Last time I checked, the trade deadline doesn't end till tomorrow. How does that change the point that [expletive] fans wanting the team to remain patient and not try to win are ridiculous?
  4. In a vacuum, yes. I don't know what this is supposed to mean. Neither does he. But the I don't want to see them try crowd has to tell themselves they feel that way for a reason.
  5. good just in time for the cubs to come up there I'd rather him stay in Milwaukee and not going to one of our 2 competitors for a playoff spot Because wild card contention is better than not wild card contention and the bright future bs has already wasted 3 full seasons of present plus the two before that while the owner twiddled his thumbs if the mets are going for it to a degree, theo has to do something, we have been ahead of them all season in the wildcard Why, exactly? Why do we have to sell pieces of a very bright future to try to beat the Mets for a Wild Card spot?
  6. Well that's silly Can't help it. I have an irrational love for this guy. I don't care if he strikes out 300 times a year, as long as I get to see him pimp out 30 home runs. You will not get to see that.
  7. probably
  8. $$, sure close enough - not worth quibbling over. Years? Nooooooot even close to FA pricing, and that is massive. Time is just as important as money on pitchers, if not waaaaaaay more important. Again, having Hamels from 32-35 is not really better than having someone like Price from 30-36. You're cutting out a big chunk of the good with a similar ramp for decline. And that's if they're equivalent pitchers, which in this case they are not. You are making a huge and likely incorrect assumption about Price's contract.
  9. Nailed it. The point here is Hamels contract is not a benefit v. his peers that are potentially available. The message is not 'woah, spending money is bad', the message is 'Hamels doesn't get extra credit for already being on the back half of his megadeal given his age'. And I completely disagree with you, because his contract is a fixed cost that is not unreasonable and free agent pitchers can only get more expensive and difficult to sign.
  10. yes even more reason to make me hope and dream they do something with starlin, but how do you bench your "franchise" shortstop / veteran? if they cant trade him im a fan of the "hey dude you just got hurt go hang with your kids for a while" 60 day dl Interesting. Because to me, I'd think it would be even more insulting to ask Castro to fake an injury and watch the rest of the season from home rather than telling him he no longer is starting every day but still will be counted on to help the team. But maybe that's just me. Maybe it's just me, but to me, in my opinion, this makes sense.
  11. False. Hamels already having pitched his age 30 and 31 seasons before he joins your team is not a feature compared to [your favorite big contract SP alternative]. Lester already pitched his age 30 season and I'm sure as [expletive] glad he's on the team now.
  12. So is he saying it's something that just needs a long rest period or something that will need surgery to get to 100%? I'm guessing it's a cross between the former, and just the general "a catcher is always banged up to some degree during the season and 100% is a moving target".
  13. that was close probably the right call, but close
  14. To be sure...... everybody get ready to squeeze your OWN butt checks, eh? whatever floats your boat
  15. I do not get why people talk about twitter this way. The site is under a decade old and this same [expletive] has gone on for decades. This is a link to a website citing beat writers quoting team execs from multiple platforms. This stuff is what happens every trading deadline and it has happened since long before twitter existed.
  16. That's what I hate most about it. People excuse it because, 'hey, you tried', when in fact you ran yourself out of an opportunity. But where I disagree is that you are coming at it from the perspective that it fails every single time when it fact it works out more than it doesn't. It needs to work out more than just "more than it doesn't" to justify it and today they are 0-2. There is also no justification to be doing it with Schwarber, Bryant and Rizzo coming up and nobody out.

  18. Please. Had both been safe you'd love it. Please. they were both out by a mile Fowler was not out by a mile and the Rockies just got lucky that the pitch was so bad it was almost a pitch out. The ball beat him by a mile. And stealing is not the least bit exciting to me even if they are safe. It's why I don't get all up and arms like the ninnies that freak about Lester's pickoffs. Make your outs at the plate, not on the bases.
