  2. Padres have more pieces and more suitors. They have contenders and non-contenders alike knocking on the door. Can't blame them for taking it too the wire. If the Twins and Cubs don't do anything I'll be shocked. The White Sox are the team that should stand pat. Too close to sell, too far to buy. Didn't the White Sox make a minor move yesterday? They were rumored to be in on a bat.

  4. tell that to the royals The Royals ran into a collapsing Oakland team and got a home game in that Wild Card. The Cubs are all but guaranteed to get a good Pittsburgh team in Pittsburgh. If they win that? St. Louis. Yeah, totally different from the 88 win Giants winning at Pittsburgh then taking care of the 96 win Nationals in 4 games, then the Cardinals in 5 games. But the Nats and Cards were also collapsing
  5. Reading it is a pain in the ass. It's not hard to put in periods. http://cdn2.gurl.com/wp-content/gallery/spotlight-on-maci-from-16-pregnant-interview/maci4.jpg
  6. But only a fool would think this team is any good and has a chance for the playoffs. [tweet] [/tweet]
  7. you can hope in one hand and do something else in the other
  8. I don't understand how this keeps being said. The Cubs are already 2/3 of the way through a race for the playoffs and very much in contention. i don't think he realizes that being "equipped for a playoff run" means having a playoff berth. No I get it. I don't think we are going to make the playoffs and even if we do, I don't feel this team would be successful in the playoffs. If they don't do anything the chances of that first part being a self fulfilling prophecy are high. And as for the second part, the odds are against any one team being successful in the playoffs, depending on how you define successful. I would say making the playoffs is successful and where you go from there is largely due to chance. There's no such thing as a team built for the playoffs. They are all just variations of being built to make the playoffs. The Cubs probably need another starting pitcher and maybe a bat. And they should trade for one because they are never going to field a badass team of nothing but homegrown prospects.

  10. That lineup (minus Baez) is striking fear in no one at present Wait'll you see the stud they draft next year at 15.
  11. he fell off a cliff before the talk began, but I'm sure there will be a story or two claiming that is true

  14. What does "all in" mean? I don't think what is being discussed here comes close to people expecting all in. Nobody is talking about all in. What they are talking about is the stupidity with remaining cautious and hoarding all prospects. This nonsense that it's just not time to try yet and we are too far behind to risk losing even one prospect for a chance at a playoff game.
  15. You don't have to be convinced, it just has to increase your chances.
  16. He's a lot older than Starlin Castro. And on top of that, he took his first expedition down that cliff in 2010 and apparently didn't like his brief return to the top of that cliff in 2011 because he's been extremely mediocre ever since.

  18. Canadian dollar is 77 cents now, so if he asks for $30M/per, they'll have to go $39M/per, won't they? (i'm probably in the minority when it comes to my lack of total utter desperation for adding a #1 SP, it's just kind of funny to consider) I'm confused. His contract will be in USD, so he'll have more buying power by being in Canada 81 days a year. why would his contract be in USD if he's employed by a Canadian company? that's how north american sports work. players are paid in greenbacks. When oil is cheap, Canadian teams struggle, when it's expensive, they profit.
  19. He's already entered those years.
