I know someone earlier mentioned a bullpen game in Game 2 of the NLDS. And that's actually not the craziest idea ever. We have a bunch of former starters that are playing up a little out of the pen with increased velocity. What's wrong with letting Hendricks and Hammel piggybacking with Richard/Cahill/Wood? Let them all go through the line-up once. Keep the opposing hitters off-balance. The thing that is wrong with that is playoffs eliminate the september call-up depth and if you use 5 guys in one game you can easily run into trouble with just one other extra inning game that series.

I'd wager that most teams lose a lot of games as a result of failing to score more runs.

I believe it is a combo of not wanting Ross 7th or if La Stella or Russell, his #9 guys, are out. I think he's just letting his horses/potential 9 innings guys bat 9th while the guys who last 5/6 innings are still hitting 8th.

I feel like they have cautiously stretched him out late in the year. He only has one 120+ pitch game, back in June. On normal rest he is now slated to pitch game 1 against Milwaukee and game 2 against Pittsburgh, before finishing with a game against Cincy. Maybe they prefer not to show him to Pittsburgh again, but they can probably have him go under 105 in each of those games and be ready to go big in Pittsburgh 10/07.

Yep. Why is it so early, anyway? Seems to always be the case in Pittsburgh on getaway day. Pittsburgh and Cincy are in the eastern time zone, same thing two weeks from now and all previous getaway days from those towns.

Has Maddon given any reason why the pitchers have moved back to the 9 hole? Haven't heard, but assume it's just the guys he expects to go 9 innings, thus reducing part of the reason why you benefit from hitting them 8.
