  1. did the cubs pick up Gorzallany for the stretch run?
  2. [insert iffy joke here] [tweet] [/tweet]
  3. Who puts a cat on a leash? [tweet]https://twitter.com/Rogmann/status/646416133264945152[/tweet]
  4. Is there a reason for that that I've missed? My assumption has been that part of the reason why the 8 hole makes sense is that when you have a pinch hitter for the pitcher early in the game it adds a better hitter more often. But with your guys you expect to pitch 8/9 innings, that part of the equation is reduced, if not removed, and therefore the improvement at 8 is not gained, so it's back to 9. Arrieta and Lester are at the stage where the Cubs are expecting complete games, whereas everybody else is struggling to last 5/6 innings.

  6. tony the tiger beat me to it, but it really looks like they are settling into the Arrieta/Lester batting 9th while the rest of the scrubs go 8 thing. Probably count on that in the playoffs.
  7. I've been too distracted by an intense craving for victory to be distracted by such childish nonsense.
  8. Tuesday should be an option because these guys definitely seal the deal on the first date.

  10. You can't count on it but you can't ignore him and all the other non top 10 QBs either. Brady, Wilson, Roethlisberger, Dalton, Romo, Rodgers, Brees and Flacco were all non top ten guys. Sure, you have to be prepared to spend a top pick on a QB, but if you have a top 3 pick and there are obvious top 3 talents at other positions (and the Bears currently need help at every single position) without any top 3 caliber QB, draft the talent 1st and look QB at 33/34/35. I could be genuinely excited about the idea of a stud non-QB taken in the first, a QB 2nd and then some filler the rest of the way plus a couple free agents and Cutler in 2016. We've known all along that Cutler was going to be on the roster through 2016. If that season is a failure again you will get another top ten pick and another shot. Do not force the QB issue this offseason. Let one come to you if it happens, but don't pull the trigger because it's the easy decision.
  11. You should probably not send a guy out there for any taxing outings, avoid high pitch counts (especially in back to back games) and maybe skip a start or two or at least give a guy a day or two extra rest between outings. I don't think shutting anybody down is a useful idea. Agree, this is the best route. He's at 194 innings now, which is 20 more than last year but 20 fewer than 2 years ago. He only has 2 more starts left according to ESPN, just avoid ridiculous pitch counts. If we're talking about Sale specifically, he's also gone on extra rest twice this month and they obviously aren't pushing him. He's 26 and has many professional innings under his belt. If it was some 21 year old going past anything he's done before, I'd be much more conservative.
  12. definitely a lot of college programs run that way right? Don't tell them until the coin toss, given 'em alternating drives! Really ups the motivation/competition side of things and brings a whole new level of entertainment to a completely unentertaining team. Also, when do they trade Forte?
  13. eh, those other positions can be found in later rounds, but you rarely see a QB drafted after round 1, or even after the top 10 picks that ever does anything. if you have a top 3 pick and you feel comfortable that Goff is worth it, you do it. And that's assuming Cutler is starting next year. It's really not that rare, once you take into account how few really good QBs there are in general. Last year's Super Bowl saw a 3rd rounder vs a 6th rounder. The best QB in the league was taken way outside the top 10 and several other quality QBs were taken outside the top 10. I would much rather be a team littered with talent throughout the roster with a second rate QB than one of the teams that waste early picks on top 10 QB busts every year. If there isn't a superstar, do not take one.
  14. You should probably not send a guy out there for any taxing outings, avoid high pitch counts (especially in back to back games) and maybe skip a start or two or at least give a guy a day or two extra rest between outings. I don't think shutting anybody down is a useful idea.
  15. I think the short answer is that you want your guys to eventually be able to pitch for 7 months. So get them prepared by not stopping at 5. Shutting a guy down in August does not guarantee you anything about his health in the future. You also sold tickets to games and are obligated to try and win them. That's like rule #1 about professional sports.
  16. Sure go ahead. Although that's pretty dumb considering for many decades that would have resulted in no playoffs whatsoever. But sure, whine like little babies because the Cubs get to play in an awesome meaningful game in October. Cry about it. Sit in the corner and throw a tantrum. Maybe you'd prefer the 2013 style season. The rest of us will enjoy it because it's freaking awesome.
  17. He damaged his RV and then didn't report it until after he went out and purchased insurance on it. Very dumb.
  18. Why are the Cubs pitchers so bad at hitting?
  19. Makes sense if it was a reply directed to a specific player, but also very rude. If you throw the word "if" in there it sounds like you can't hit a lefty if you never face a lefty.
  20. Deep thoughts with special assistant wilken [tweet]https://twitter.com/backupslider/status/646110743927111680[/tweet]
  21. Uh you can absolutely spend picks on a QB if there is one worth it. Best thing- even if you need extra time to build up the line around it you can keep Cutler and protect the rookie for a year. Not sure if any of the QBs will be worth a top 5 pick however, and if there stud OL or defenders that'd be great too. When's the last time a top 5, or high 1st round QB didn't start the season opener? 2014
