  1. How do you blame Pace for the QB situation being the same? Also, those Emery guys playing "key roles" on a horrible team isn't much of a defense of Emery.

  3. If the Cubs lose 2 straight, that may happen. There would be no chance to overtake them and host the playoff game. If the Cubs win the first two then the chance to host the WC means he has to pitch. If they split the first two, well, then maybe/maybe not.
  4. It's a pretty good piece of nonsense to throw into a case in order to create reasonable doubt.
  5. I wasn't familiar with the subject.
  6. Unfortunately there is not scenario where all that's been hurt are feelings.
  7. Well, lots of people would rather her have been actually raped than themselves be wrong. Yeah, [expletive] like that is what I'm talking about. That's despicable.
  8. I hate that "you want this rape to have happened" narrative.
  9. He was never an amateur scout specialist and the team he left sucks.
  10. Distraught mother of rape victim plants evidence to try and prevent the rapist from getting off, damages case.
  11. Maybe it is weird, but ESPN creating unnecessary discussion topics is pretty much the norm.
  12. At the risk of supporting Emery, I don't think you know what awful FA or contracts/contract extensions look like. He was probably average in those areas. Of course he would have had to be ungodly good in those areas to overcome the drafts and his HC hire. Re: Pace, I'd consider giving a little bit more time before you go all, I ain't holding my breath, but that's just me. Considering the need to give more time, it actually makes quite a bit of sense not to be holding your breath.
  13. Not being injured as an out of shape 19 year old isn't the same as remaining uninjured as you get older. Maybe he's trying to get in shape now but his body can't handle the work.
  14. biggest trending story on twitter right now. [tweet] [/tweet]
  15. First, as David mentions, he's only missed 7 games in his career. Second, he wasn't injury prone in college so I'm not sure how Emery could have predicted your notion of "injury proneness". Third, he's a damn good receiver and probably the best WR out of the 2012 draft (maybe TY Hilton, but that's it). The knock on Alshon was he was out of shape, which suggests a lack of taking care of yourself and a potential tendency for lots of injuries. If his career winds up being a bit more injury prone than it has to date (he's missed 15% of games depending on what happens Sunday), you could make a case that it would be a knock on the people that ignored the physical questions pre-draft.

  17. no, I thought Stannis took some sort of late "everybody is doubting this team unfairly" stance. Can't remember, but either way, plenty of people thought the Bears would be better than they've shown so far.
  18. Tim Baffoe is really good. i don't get it, virtually every article i've read since training camp is about that cynical. i think we can stop celebrating the skeptics, even amongst ourselves. there are no fanpoints given out for saying your team sucks' Wait, weren't you predicting pretty good things for this team? There was not universal acceptance that this team was garbage. There were people predicting .500 seasons and more than one that thought they could win 9 games. There is a huge difference between mediocre/average teams and potential top three draft pick status.
  19. I'm pretty sure any Sullivan interaction with other humans beings is weird, but that those that deal with it regularly are used to it.
  20. sullivan is no longer a beat writer
  21. Callahan auto is going to have to wait a little longer for the prodigal son to return. [tweet] [/tweet]
  22. He is among the worst, but this article was harmless and self deprecating.
  23. I don't think Hendricks and Hammel would pitch on the same bullpen day.
  24. lol...Haren being skipped because of the off day. This will scare the [expletive] out of most but apparently Maddon said that he wouldn't rule out a "bullpen day" in game 2 of the NLDS if we advance. welcome to the party, pal
