  1. Not even the least bit similar imo. LaRussa was checked out for a decade before that hire. It would not be a long term hire, but it should be a stabilizing one for 3-5 years. I’ve long maintained the Bears are desperate to replicate the Steelers stability at the HC position and this is why I’d doubt they take the old man (more so than the roster control issues), but they could surprise. The one thing theyve always done is shift the category of new hire. Recently that’s been defensive guy/offensive guy rotation, but they’ve also gone from first time NFL head coach with other head coach history, to lots of head coaching experience to young coordinator with limited NFL experience. Belichik would be a shift closer to the John Fox type, after back to back failed coordinators.
  2. I would take Belichik
  3. At 49ers or home vs Seattle later in season? My guess is if they are competent next couple weeks they might be a slight home favorite over Seattle.
  4. They traded for Sweat and paid him. Previously, they traded for Mack and paid him. They paid Robert Quinn. They paid Davis. They pay much greater sums every season for talent than what they’ll need to pay a head coach. Eberflus’s contract is a backup long snapper they cut in preseason. It’s meaningless
  5. Annually. The tax burden is an annual issue, not a one time cost. All developers fight property tax assessments. It’s not unique and it’s not an indication of penny pinching.
  6. When Warren was asked initially who would have the final say on a coaching decision, he gave a 112-word answer about how he and Poles would work together, spending multiple hours a day identifying the right person for the Bears. Pressed on what would happen if they had dissenting opinions, he eventually said Poles would have the final voice. “We’ll work that out,” Warren said. “Ryan is the general manager. He’s the head of football operations, so he will have the final say if it ever got to that point, but I’m confident that we will work through it. … So long as we keep the center of our decisions what’s in the best interest of the Chicago Bears, our players, as we go forward, it will become clear as far as who is the person to lead this franchise from a football standpoint, from a coaching standpoint.”
  7. Seems like a lot of ink spilled over a guy I never heard of. Not sure how much that says for my growing disinterest in the sport or for this guys lackluster career.
  8. Bears are 3.5 point dogs against a flailing San Fran team and could theoretically win this game that everybody wrote off as a loss going into the season.
  9. I’d be fine with him leaving. He’s the head of a garbage team. Where’s his next gig coming from?
  10. Still cannot believe Ohio State lets this just for men ad run their football program
  11. Every Tom dick and Harry in the ncaa was getting 10 year extensions. It’s the market.
  12. A 5-0 finish to end 9-8 and Williams rolling along would be epic level magic and imo not a borderline decision to bring him back. But we can rest assured that won’t happen.
  13. Chicago is quietly in a bit of a pickle with goalies. Brossoit is going to miss the first half, forcing Soderblom to surpass the games played number that would allow them to send to Rockford without waivers. ST. PAUL, Minn. — Chicago Blackhawksgoalie Laurent Brossoit underwent a second surgery on his right knee and is expected to miss at least six more weeks, Blackhawks coach Luke Richardson said on Friday. Brossoit, 31, initially underwent meniscus surgery in late August and was expected to miss five-to-seven weeks. His recovery was on track during training camp and he was expected back with the team early in the season, but he later had more knee issues. He recently had further tests done and another procedure was recommended. Richardson described the procedure as a clean-up after the first surgery. Brossoit is expected to be re-evaluated in about six weeks, the Blackhawks said.
  14. I don’t need to hear from Brisker anymore.
  15. I hate everything about this idea. Paring a young guy with a vet counterpart is half measures BS. That’s how Pace got Fox. Hire the right guy and have him assemble a staff. And don’t let that Rex Ryan anywhere near the building.
  16. You’re right, letting the time run out was the right choice. lets move on
  17. He could have moved on last offseason. He chose not to
  18. I’m not a fan of the “but maybe he wasn’t allowed to make the decision he wanted to make” built in excuses that are given to every bears gm and head coach. Poles is the gm. He hired Eberflus. He chose to tank. He lost on purpose and then kept the head coach and now it’s blowing up in his face. This is his team and his coach. Full stop
  19. Poles could have made a change and chose not to.
  20. It’s quite simple you have 30 seconds to save your season/job. You have a timeout. You call a TO and have 2 plays ready and let it rip. You don’t end that game with TO in your pocket.
  21. Yes, much more awful than having the clock run out
