Non winning hockey coaches do not last. Collitan lasted 12 games into his third season. Savard barely made it past year one. The last guy to make it through three consecutive losing seasons did it when Hitler* was still alive.
Richardson was set up to fail as a coach and nobody expected much this season. But most expected better. NHL coaches take the fall regularly, fair or not. It’s probably not fair and he probably doesn’t deserve to be fired. But history suggests the Blackhawks cannot keep playing at this (lack of) pace and keep the head coach employed. And the current throw anything against the wall strategery and non-communication with veterans can be turning people off.
Davidson may not be beholden to NHL history, but he’s going to start feeling pressure to make changes.
