  1. I'm seeing people say he was good and carries no blame.
  2. 5.40 ERA 1.60 WHIP I guess people think that's good around here. Compared to last year, its probably good. We were in the game today. That's about all you can ask a guy like Marquis. That much is probably true. It's all you can reasonably expect. That doesnt' make it anywhere close to a good outing.
  3. Since when is that the determinant of a good outing? If the Cubs scored 7 and he gave up 9, would that be good enough?
  4. But that doesn't affect those stats. You can't give up 3 earned runs in the first and pretend to not share in the blame of a loss. Sure, but it wasn't a poor outing. No, it wasn't poor, it was terrible. cool, so anyone who doesn't pitch complete game shutouts is terrible? Just so I know so we can move forward That's a freaking stupid thing to write. Just stupid. There's a very big difference between 5 IP, 4 R, 3 ER and a 1.60 WHIP and a complete game shutout. Don't respond with that nonsense.
  5. But that doesn't affect those stats. You can't give up 3 earned runs in the first and pretend to not share in the blame of a loss. Sure, but it wasn't a poor outing. No, it wasn't poor, it was terrible. So giving up 3 ER's is terrible? Sure. 5.40 ERA 1.60 WHIP Why is this so hard to understand?

Share the blame, but I've often heard (wouldn't know first hand) that pitching is a mentality as much as a physicality. You start questioning the defense behind you and you start over throwing and doing too much and look out. I'm not saying that it did happen that way, but it's possible. He was bad before the defense, and he contributed to the bad defense.

  9. He's barely had any starts to show it, let alone back to back starts. Give me a week straight of Murton starting and looking like that, and I'll be concerned.

  11. How? 1.60 WHIP 5.40 ERA That's flat out terrible. yes, but in the first inning, everyone acted like he was going to give up 30 runs by the 3rd. The truth is, he wasn't great, but the Cubs offense and defense were worse. This lineup should not have been shut down by Sampson. Marquis would have had to give up 0 or 1 runs for us to win today Nobody thought he was going to give up 30 runs by the 3rd. Marquis had a terrible outing. Izturis had a terrible game. The offense was terrible. I don't understand why people feel the need to focus on one thing and excuse everything else that happened.
  12. How? 1.60 WHIP 5.40 ERA That's flat out terrible. Woah there sparky, three errors and a horrible day in the field should also be factored into account on those stats. I bet Lou is going to have a field day with this kind of effort... YIKES! Hate to be in the locker room. Those stats have nothing to do with the errors.
  13. How? 1.60 WHIP 5.40 ERA That's flat out terrible.
  14. Seriously. If Marquis pitches like he did today all year, I bet a lot of us would be more than happy with that. Before we get carried away with the Marquis love, he had a 1.6 WHIP and 5.40 ERA today. If he pitches like that the rest of the year I'll be pissed.
  15. yeah, he's 5 for 23 now as a PH. his approach just wasn't good in that last AB. could've been ahead 2-0 if he would have not swung at those high pitches. His game is about patience and selectivity. But the conventional wisdom of baseball says pinch hitters have to go up hacking. That's not his game, and probably hurts him more than some others.
  16. this is really bad for your metabolism.
  17. It's the same thing we've seen for years.
  18. Let's go Murt, don't get too anxious, but you better hit a homerun right now
  19. Im under the impression we are. no reason not to. there's a lot of time to kill until April 28, and the Cubs might not win until then.
  20. Gameday said it was a wild pitch. It was but it was right infront of Barrett he turned the wrong way and let it skip away. TERRIBLE move--it hit his glove Barrett is the worst defensive catcher in the league. Y'know, even if that were true, and its not, his offense still outweighs it. It is true. Im tired of hearing about "his offense outweighs his mistakes behind the plate." Hell, I rather have Blanco starting behind the plate each game because I know he wont be dropping off-speed pitches, I know he will block pitches in the dirt, and I know he will call a really solid game behind the plate. Barrett is garbage behind the plate. He is better served as a DH in the AL than he is a catcher in the NL. HAHA. The Cubs would be losing 4-0 right now instead of 4-0. So he has a point.
  21. New manager does not equal new management. The organizational decision makers remain, and that losing philosophy carries over. You can't erase all of Hendry's stupidity in one spring.
