  1. I don't see how you can make that last claim. He doesn't try as hard? I think it's much more like that it took time for him to adjust to the league's adjustment to him. He was better out of leadoff in 2005 than in the leadoff spot.
  2. i agree w/ this, except that soriano HAS shown changes in production when he's moved up and down the order. I would normally say bat him 5th, but his production is vastly superior from the leadoff spot than it is from other places with roughly a season's worth of PAs. There were extenuating circumstances with those changes. His small amount of time in the 5th spot was 2005, and he was actually better in the 5th spot than leadoff that year. Likewise, 2004 was his only time hitting 3rd, and his line there was right in line with his career averages. Soriano basically fell apart during the 2003 playoffs batting leadoff, when he went on a pretty amazing bad streak. He was exposed as a very easy out, and he was forced to change his approach. He was always a low OBP guy, but his .267 playoff OBP in 2003 basically lost him his job as the Yankees leadoff man. He went to Texas and struggled to regain his best success. Was that because of the move to #3 or because the league knew how to get him out and he failed to adjust? I'd argue it was a lot more about the league and his lack of adjustments than it was some mental block about spot in the order.
  3. No they are not. It will be a tough test. The Bears D will be fully healthy with Harris and Brown. So while I do think the Chargers will beat the Bears, but I doubt the Chargers "are going to crush the Bears" as you think. I'm thinking a 7 point differential. Isn't Brown's contract up? I wonder if he will be resigned? All Browns are signed and accounted for. Even if the Raiders improve, they are still pathetic. The Eagles were already a 10-6 playoff team, they're good, but I don't see them being much, if any, better. They are probably toward the tail end of their run right now. The Chiefs? They may have already gotten best they will get out of Larry Johnson, whose production already slipped with a huge workload. If they seriously count on Huard to lead them, I'm not sure they will be much of a threat. They were the epitome of average last year, and I don't see that team being a whole lot more. The Seahawks are an interesting case. They are probably on the backend of their window, which started when Hasselback and Alexander took over and produced a lot of above average and some really good seasons. Unless the long lost Barber brother regains his pre-injury greatness, I'm not sure Seattle will be any better than they were last year. But I do see them as a likely favorite at home against the Bears.
  4. Yeah, the poster formerly known as goony took him. Somebody fix him up, I'm not using that phrase. I'm feeling out of the loop. I don't know if I missed a thread or what, but why is goony using a completely new account? I'm very confused. He was banned. Finally. That goony dude was a douchebag.
  5. It's this stuff that OFFICIALLY pisses me off. Great. Now we get 2 off-days, and they probably rescheduled it during a long game streak with no breaks. It should have been rescheduled for tommorow. End of story. This is stupid excecutive baseball. Actually, it fits better for the rest of both teams as well. If they had rescheduled it for tomorrow, it would have been the first of 14 in a row for the Cubs and the first of 11 in a row for Houston. They rescheduled date is the first game after the All-Star Break. It will be the first of 11 for the Cubs and the first of 7 for Houston. Not to mention all of the logistical problems that would happen if the Astros have to stay an extra day in town now. It works much better both baseball and business wise to play right after the All-Star Break. Not to mention, tomorrow's weather is really up in the air. They are calling for very cold, snowy conditions, and the field will be in questionable conditions from today's weather. It was the right call, both doing in early in the day, and moving it to when they did.
  6. Hey, they were over .500 too. Baserunners and a winning record, that didn't happen very often.
  7. I'm sure the Cubs could too get 16 baserunners, or only score 2? get 16 baserunners and only score 2 (or less) not sure they could manage the former, but definitely the latter. that would be like a .375 team OBP for the day.
  8. I'm sure the Cubs could too get 16 baserunners, or only score 2?

  10. The better he does now, the more they'll be pissed if he doesn't come up huge "when it matters."
  11. mark r owes us a pick in the nfl mock draft thread, and a new game thread.
  12. I hate all the primetime games. I like watching football during the day on Sundays.
  13. Why can't it be before the Thursday game? I don't understand why the NFL insists on sending teams out there on 3 days rest late in the season. Use the byes for teams playing on Thanksgiving and every Thursday game.
  14. I'll take a meaningless game at home against the Saints over a very important one in the middle of a tough stretch any time.
  15. No they aren't. They are justifying that he's barely playing at all. Again, complaining about a lack of playing time isn't complaining about a not getting all the playing time. Just like complaining about a poor pitching performance isn't complaing about a lack of a perfect game.
  16. They have 3 home games though that have a pretty decent chance of being flexed to a night game (broncos, giants, saints). What's the limit for primetime games? It's not much more than 5 is it? There's actually a good shot at starting 5-1. I'm chalking up the Chargers game as a loss, the Eagles game will be really tough.
  17. 5 prime time games, 4 on the road. Major screw job. 9/9 @ CHARGERS, 3:15 PM 9/16 VS. CHIEFS, 3:15 PM 9/23 VS. COWBOYS, 7:15 PM 9/30 @ LIONS, Noon 10/7 @ PACKERS, 7:15 PM 10/14 VS. VIKINGS, Noon 10/21 @ EAGLES, 3:15 PM 10/28 VS. LIONS, Noon 11/11 @ RAIDERS, 3:15 PM 11/18 @ SEAHAWKS, 7:15 PM 11/25 VS. BRONCOS, Noon 12/2 VS. GIANTS, 3:15 PM 12/6 @ REDSKINS, 7:15 PM 12/17 @ VIKINGS, 7:30 PM 12/23 VS. PACKERS, Noon 12/30 VS. SAINTS, Noon
  18. Z struggles with extra rest. He's the team's most important pitcher. It makes perfect sense to juggle the rotation around him.
  19. Seriously? You're commenting on his SLG right now? That's the same as Jacque Jones, who has started everyday and doesn't appear to be anywhere close to losing his job. That's basically one single worse than Soriano right now. The absurdity in the Murton critiques is just beyond ridiculous right now. The guy hasn't played. He's been given the least amount of opportunities of any supposed regular, and is basically being used similar to how Ryan Theriot has been used. He's had one instance where he's started back to back games, and was substituted out after 2 at bats in that 2nd game.
  20. If I'm a Knicks fan, I'd actually want them to get blown out as much as possible. Why would any fan want their team to appear to be better than they are? That just leads to a continuation of badness. Big changes must be made in New York. Whole world's known it for quite some time. I think the Knicks players might find they are very, very alone on wanting other teams to take it easy on them. I've heard several Knicks fans make this same statement. In a sport like basketball, when several points are scored every minute, it's really hard to bring up the running up the score claim, especially among the pros. A 100-6 high school game is different.
  21. why? I could certainly see why he might want to, but I don't see why he'd "have to".
  22. Was this a national game? I didn't notice. Teams postpone games on one day's notice all the time. I don't think that's an issue.
  23. I'm guessing any tickets sold already would be valid for that date, and any remaining tickets purchased will be priced as prime dates.
  24. Is this the 3rd or 4th time this year the Knicks have had problems with teams "running up the score"? Seems to me that lousy franchise should worry more about what is causing them to be susceptible to being blown out, than what other teams are doing to blow them out. I really love when NY teams fall flat. It helps me tolerate the fans a little more every day.
  25. why the hell arent they making it up tomorrow? [expletive]. Doesnt Houston have an offday too? Not sure why it's "[expletive]". The weather is going to such through the weekend. There's no guarantee they'd get the game in tomorrow, and there's no reason to keep Houston here in case they can get the game in.
