  1. It wouldn't have been a new development 3 years ago. But it would be today.
  2. Howry was great last year and he may wind up being so this year but the early returns are bad. Yeah, he was great last year, far from iffy. But that's the problem when you sign aging middle relievers to longterm deals. They aren't the picture of stability.
  3. The starter pitched to a 4.50 ERA. The lineup had an OBP of about .270 and scored 3 measly runs. Yes, Howry had a bad outing as well. But the blame for the loss lies on many shoulders. A loss is more than just who was on the mound when the other team took the lead.
  4. I agree, it's just frustrating. This could be the second loss directly attributed to bad bullpen pitching. The Cubs never had a lead in this game. You can't attribute a loss to the bullpen directly in a game when they went behind in the 1st inning and the offense did nothing against a crap pitcher. Yes I can. Lilly pitched well and so did Wuertz. The bottom line is Howry gave up the lead. There was no lead to give up. It's going to be a team loss if it happens. You can't assume victory as a starter when you pitch to a 4.50 ERA. You can't assume victory when you score 3 runs.

  6. So it seems as though Wuertz, Cotts and Dempster are the only reliable relievers so far this year. nature of the beast I guess. Better sign 'em all longterm.
  7. there's something screwy with my normal login (goony), so Tim had me create a new one. I was sick of that goofy name anyway.
  8. Theriot was already in the game, he came in with Wuertz. And welcome! that's what I get for talking to a client during the game. Yippee for tie games. oh, thanks for the welcome but I've been around a long time
  9. using pinch hitters to sac bunt is stupid. what a waste of a plate appearance.
