  1. totally agree
  2. I doubt it. A Roger Clemens fan interviewing Rogers Clemens, with his lawyers likely writing out all the questions.
  3. Eh, it's an interesting idea but I don't know if I'd really care if there was no ultimate championship to root for. Yay, you won the Big 10. Here's your trophy, go home. Then everyone would be arguing ad infinitum: the Big 10 sucks anyway! Who cares if you won it, you'd never beat the other conference champs! And yada yada. I don't see it solving much, just creates a whole bunch of hypothetical arguments that would never cease. Not to mention that's essentially what the system was like before the BCS, and yet that didn't stop people from declaring national champions every year. The BCS just added a more objective and standard way to do that. Perhaps a little more objective than what preceded it, but not even close to objective. If we take goony's position, then they should go back to the way it was. If we take the opposite, then they need to let the championship be decided on the field and not by sports writers and coaches. Either way, they should do away with the BCS. The championship is already mostly decided on the field. Coaches and writers have input, but by and large, the best team gets a chance to win its last game and be crowned champ. You still have to win games, both regular season and bowl, to win a championship.
  4. Why is it asinine? There are no rules against it, and it's not any different than any other transaction that is allowed by the rules. If there are no rules against it it means the rules are asinine. A player like Fukudome has to go into the draft in a fantasy baseball league. There's no good reason why not.
  5. He's been better on the road this regular season, but it's still Eli on the road in a playoff game. He's Rex Grossman with more playing time under his belt. And Giants are not world beaters by any stretch. They nearly gave the Bears a win. They lost to every contender they played this year, with the lone win being early against Washington.
  6. And on the other hand, I'm not convinced a longer tournament is going to solve anything. There will still be controversy. And quite frankly, I don't go into college football season dying to know who the national champ is going to be. I just love watching college football games. I know it's against accepted behavior, but I think the NCAA tourney is an unwieldy beast of a joke that doesn't come close to rewarding the best team in basketball. Sure it plays well on tv and is a cultural icon, but it's not the greatest thing out there. I'm the same way with NFL overtime whining. Why anybody thinks the college way is the right way is beyond me. If you don't win in the first 60 minutes, and you lose without getting a chance in OT, too freaking bad. You should have scored more when you had the chance. If you lose an early college season game and get left out of the hunt despite thinking you are the best team, oh well, don't lose next time. Championships don't really crown the best team, they crown the winner of a handful of games at most. It's awesome to win one and sucks when you lose, I'm not claiming otherwise. But the fact is that no matter the system, people are always going to be clamoring for it to be changed. I'd rather enjoy watching the games.
  7. I'm guessing, last year's record, and some sort of rating?
  8. I really don't think it makes a difference. Some high school teams play that long. Basketball encompasses almost the entire school year. You're asking a handful of student athletes to play a few more weekend games. In what state? Most states play their state championship Thanksgiving weekend. Basketball is a totally different animal. NBA plays 82 games, plus playoffs. NCAA plays 40 if you're lucky enough go deep in pre-and post season tourneys. This scenario would have college players playing 14-15 games, to the NFLs 16. Some states play TDay weekend, others just begin that weekend. There's no rhyme or reason to your numbers there, but if you are going to be fair, you should talk about the 4 preseason NFL games and 3-4 playoff games. NFL players are asked to play 23-24 games in a year.
  9. When they start allowing basketball players to run full speed into each other violently and still play 2-3 games a week, then they will. High School and college football teams already play 14-15 game seasons in some parts.
  10. Haha, ridiculous. What is so ridiculous? They cannot compete year in and year out. Neither can Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Purdue, Miami, Notre Dame, Maryland, Wake Forest, NC, NC State, Duke, Syracuse, Iowa State, Baylor, Nebraska, Vanderbilt, Mississippi, Stanford, Washington, Washington State, South Carolina, UCLA, Cal.
  11. Bucs are going to shock everyone and beat the Gnats. Tiki's unloading every bit of knowledge he knows to Ronde even as we speak. There's my bold prediction for the week. I'm prepared for the proverbial egg on my face come weekend :) I'm fairly surprised how many people are picking the Giants. It's still Eli on the road in a playoff game. They are coming off a hard fought battle that they lost against the Patriots, and teams have had a tough go playing the week after losing to New England this year. I just hope Jacksonville wins and beats up on New England in round 2. Even if they lose, I hope they hurt the Patriots.
  12. I'd disband the conference and fold: Pac 10 (10 schools) Big 12 (12 schools) SEC (12 schools) ACC (9 schools)+: Pitt WVU Syracuse Big 10 (11 schools)+: ND To division I-b: UConn Cinc. Rutgers Louisville South Florida Eliminating them from title contention?
  13. I really don't think it makes a difference. Some high school teams play that long. Basketball encompasses almost the entire school year. You're asking a handful of student athletes to play a few more weekend games.
  14. This would be my lineup. Gives the best 4 players the most ABs throughout the course of the season. I'd lean that way as well, but I think I'd prefer Pie in the 7 spot with Theriot 8. I don't feel comfortable introducing a hitter like Pie into the lineup just before the pitcher.
  15. And I agree with you. Ramirez may be the more naturally gifted hitter, and better hitter for power, and he has been since the two have been teammates. But Lee blows him away in the OBP category and I think that should put Lee in front of Ramirez every time. Aramis is too much of a free swinger for my tastes to be the 3 hitter. Ramirez is what Soriano would be if Soriano had a little better discipline and didn't get himself out so easily. That's more like 5 hitter territory ideally.
  16. Yep, MLB teams are free to sign undrafted Japanese prospects. They haven't pursued any of the big name Japanese high school players historically, though. Kind of an unwritten rule between the two leagues. I assume MLB believes it's in their best interest to have a strong pro league in Japan, which would give them reason not to raid all their prospects. Plus, while those guys can ultimately come here and make more money, it's probably not all that beneficial to sign as prospects.
  17. That's exactly what he said. It's exactly what every god complex next big thing coach who thinks he's got the system to beat all systems thinks. The only thing between him and a title is effort from the kids. In a way, you probably have to think that way. But it's pretty funny how insanely overhyped "buying into the system" has become with modern coach/gods.
  18. Seriously, Urban rocks. Who can't love a coach like that? You gotta love a coach who tries to blame any problems on a lack of player sacrifice.
  19. 5 positions? 2B and 3B. Possibly RF. Ward is at 1st.
  20. Right. If all he needed to do was play good defense, we could trade him and bring up Jake Muyco. You are right he needs to be able to hold his own at the plate but his defense is what is most important. I am sick of having noodle arm catchers. I'm sick of having impotent bats. Holding your own isn't even good enough. Unless he's the worst arm out there, a catchers arm just isn't all that important.
  21. He's referring to fantasy baseball teams drafting studs early. ARod and Pujols are going to get you your numbers, unless they get injured.
  22. So the sport that has hard checks into the boards, highsticking, and regularly has fighting is concerned that players might be injured because it's a little windy and snowy? These guys are getting paid plenty for injury risk. That's all part of the game. The horrible ice conditions that can come about as a result of outdoor playing, generally are not. Football players wouldn't be all that excited about playing a game a year on the beach.
