  1. How is that your concern after seeing the play? Amazingly enough, I can multitask with the best of them. I can have concern over Ankiel hitting the wall AND have concern for why it is considered an out, all at the same time. I just don't get how you were able to get so worked up about that being called an out.
  2. Fontenot is the one that goes to shortstop? That's surprising.
  3. Lou Piniella sent me a crisp dollar bill on my birthday.
  4. Why is the Bobby Scales callup front page news on espn.com?
  5. That shirt has been lambasted in many places, including this message board.
  6. Okay, now that I've seen it much slower I see it. Yes, it's clear.
  7. He caught it with two hands, took a few steps, and then the ball clearly came out when his glove hit the wall. Who needs a telescopic camera lens? It seems pretty clear. He had already transferred the ball from his glove to his throwing hand. The ball was in his left hand when he hit the wall. There's no doubt about it. I have my doubts. He puts his hand in the glove, but after watching it repeatedly I don't see the ball in his bare hand on impact. It's unclear if it falls out of his glove or if it falls out of his hand.

  9. And they have all received far more attention than this one has received. I hadn't heard much of anything about this performance until this thread was created.
  10. I saw Lebron's mom at the MVP press conference yesterday and she looked like she just bought coke.
  11. I just clicked on the article on the front page of this site and it turns out they asked her to sing since she was going to be at Wrigley with a booth about raising awareness to fight kidney cancer. She is a local celebrity, not exactly a stretch, given all the other people that have done it.
  12. Why on earth do you want to give Theriot a day off now? 3 HR's in 4 games? Let the guy play while he's hot. I don't know, but Lou said he was probably going to get today off. Then he said they would give multiple guys a day off, so maybe that was him catching himself about Theriot.
  13. So Venezuelans aren't good enough to mow your lawn?
  14. Everytime anybody sings it "uniquely" they get discussed after the fact. In the game thread I thought I heard somebody say she was reading the words to the song. I haven't seen any out of the norm "flak", but I did notice the top headline on NSBB's main page says she will never do it again.
  15. They already have 5 outfielders in Iowa......what roster need was he filling?Maybe Scales. He was called up today to fill Zambrano's roster spot until Wells is called up for Friday's game. I'd think Scales would go back down then. I would think there is at least a chance that Gathwright is the one who leaves on Friday. I can't believe they went a month without a 2nd backup middle infielder. And now that their only 3 guys have played for like 2 weeks straight I would think Lou would tire of the situation.

  17. Maybe on a straight speed basis, but what about baserunning? He looked pretty confused out there.
  18. Sounds like some media in the postgame interview with Lou. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/cubs/1556625,CST-SPT-cub04.article Well, I think there is a big difference between media members asking Lou if he would rather have seen Zambrano not bunt, or if he was disappointed that Zambrano did bunt, than somebody coming out and straight up cricizing the play. It's a legit question.
  19. Where is this criticism coming from?
  20. I'd be all for pushing Harden back some, but I'm not sure you need to do that with Lilly/Marshall. Hah, I just realized the Cubs two lefties are the married couple on How I Met Your Mother.
  21. Yeah, it really is. The correlation is not 1.0, but they are positively correlated without question. So there's never been a pitcher who has lowered his pitch speed and maintained close to the same effectiveness? He said the correlation was not 1.0. Just because a guy, or some guys can do it on occasion doesn't mean there isn't a correlation though. By and large, if guys lose velocity, they will lose effectiveness. Why can't Harden be one of those guys then? I said it isn't directly proportional, not that there isn't any correlation. I would assume a guy can't until he proves he can. He has looked, to me, far more pedestrian in the games he doesn't have the velocity though. Obviously it plays a major role in his dominance.

  23. Well, Joey Gathwright has no value to this team other than as a pinch runner, "losing" him in the 5th wouldn't be that tragic.
  24. What's preferable, having him make that start on 9 days rest, or having him start today and just go 3-4 innings and then start Friday on 3 days rest. I would think it would be better to have a guy make his starting debut coming off short rest and a light workload rather than unusually long rest. He's already going to have the adrenaline flowing. I was thinking the exact same thing as I was reading the previous posts. If they know they're going to use him Friday, get him 60-70 pitches today and them bring him back on 3 days rest Friday. Is this the guy who was a Cards farmhand at one point? I can never remember if he's the same guy. I'm pretty sure he was drafted and signed by the Cubs and has only spent a couple weeks with Toronto as a Rule 5 guy before returning.
