  1. How does his speed compare to Fukudome? Obviously you'd prefer a CF with top notch defense, but if he can be adequate, and produce something like an 850 OPS (not sure if he can even do that) in CF, he can be an asset, especially in his low compensation seasons.
  2. I'm not bothered that they can't find them, the cheaters design 'em so they can't be detected. That's why masking agents are also on the banned list.
  3. http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/huddleup/2009/05/michael-gaines-sees-great-opportunity-at-tight-end-fullback-with-chicago-bears.html Edited because full back is censored.
  4. You probably have better odds guessing the the lottery numbers than trying to predict what a major league team's bullpen will look like in 3 seasons. And if Jim Hendry is here, you can pretty much guarantee he will trade for a veteran or two and sign a couple free agents as well.
  5. Who cares if they love Manny? They haven't had a lot of big time players to glom onto on that team for a long time. It makes perfect sense why he'd be so popular there in such a short amount of time. I don't know why we're supposed to begrudge a fanbase for loving a superstar. Yeah, I don't get being upset at LA fans. I mean, hey, it's stupid to get emotionally attached to any player, especially a gun-for-hire type like Manny. But the guy was a force and singlehandedly renewed interest in what had been a rather boring and disappointing organization. If Jay Cutler gets caught on the roids and misses the middle of this upcoming season, I'm going to be really angry, and he's not even in Manny's stratosphere.
  6. You do realize we were only up by 2 with the meat of the Astros order coming up, right? When? They were up four when Gregg came in, no (Gregg gave up one run on the sac fly)? Anyway, that's not the only time he could have been used. He could have been used in the eigth instead of Mormol. Look, at some point guys like Guzman and Heilman (he did finally pitch last night) have to be trusted in a tight game. Mormol and Gregg simply can not hold up at this ridiculous pace. edit: you were talking about the eighth when you said up two, i guess. Why do you keep saying Mormol? Lou had Guzman warming up a lot the night before, my guess is that wasted warm up time made him reluctant to use Guzman last night.
  7. No Lee (neck) again. Lineup: sori, riot, fuky, rami, hoff, milt, font, soto, lilly. from wittenmeyer's blog
  8. Plus, the guy has already made $12 million in salary in his life (according to BR). That doesn't include any other endorsement/engagement deals he's done. If he's been smart, he shouldn't have to do anything for the rest of his life. Eh, take away 50% of that for various taxes, some money for a house, and then he's got to live off a couple million the rest of his life with no further income. Odds are he's spent a good chunk of that on some nice vacations/cars. He may or may not have bought something big for his family. That's not retirement money for a 20-something, unless he's just going to get a small house and live like somebody making the median income the rest of his life. He'll have to do something, but if he can keep earning 6-figures, he should do it.
  9. The 1984 NLCS was a best of five and San Diego got homefield advantage based on the rotation they used at the time. Didn't the NL West get HFA in 1983? Meaning the NL East winner should have had HFA in 1984? In 1983 the first 2 were in LA and the second 2 were in Philly. Given the 2-3 format they used for 1984, I assume they did that in 83 and were prepared for a game 5 in Philly if necessary.
  10. The 1984 NLCS was a best of five and San Diego got homefield advantage based on the rotation they used at the time.
  11. You think that matters to him?
  12. If he agrees to come back now, there will be pressure to show up to at least one offseason workout. He can't have that. Look for him to return in the middle of training camp, right when two-a-days start to decrease.
  13. These two guys have as much proof against them as Sammy. Piazza especially. There are all sorts of stories of his bachne.
  14. I have very little expectations for tonight's game, but they've beaten my expectations all year, so hopefully they can guarantee one more home game with a win tonight.
  15. That's just Harold being Harold. He's the biggest player apologist in the business. Every player is just amazing and great and terrific and all the rest.
  16. It would make some sense if they gave the team a roster penalty for a little bit, but 50 games is harsh.
  17. How do you want to frame the bet? I would love to make a bet. However... It would suck to make a bet for Favre to do well with the Vikings. Not because I think he will fail, Its because Im a Packer fan. That's such a cop-out. So what, you think he will do well, if he does, you win money, if he doesn't, you get the satisfaction of a rival failing.
  18. as old as Farve is, that is an impossible stance to take Because Favre is going to be 40. It makes it next to impossible for him to have a better year then Cutler? Yes, quality 16 game seasons from 40 year old QBs just don't happen.
  19. How do you want to frame the bet?
  20. You said "so called" old and declining. He is old and declining. Saying "so called" makes it quite obvious you don't care about the facts.
  21. Since Cutler has become a starter.. Cutler - 45 turnovers in 1220 pass attempts Favre - 47 turnovers in 1257 pass attempts And this is with a so called "injury prone, to old decling Favre". You seriously need to take the blinders off when it comes to your loverboy there. I understand being a Packers fan who worships Favre. If I was one, I would have as well. The guy did great things, 5+ years ago. He's not the same. To insinuate that he is not old and declining is just laughable.
  22. Had to? Or insisted on it? It's not like the Jets were without capable running backs last year. If anybody in this discussion is likely to throw less than he had to last year, it's Cutler.
  23. As for the excitement/notoriety this would bring to the NFC North this year, nothing will ever surpass the hype that the NFC East will get, as always. No matter how much Washington or Dallas struggles, they will always get more respect.
  24. The oft-injured Adrian Peterson who has missed 2 games out of 32 possible in the NFL? He basically had two injuries in college and has been very durable in the NFL. Some of you guys are completely ignoring the numbers on both sides. The numbers have not shown Cutler is as good as you're making him and he's going to have a decrease in legit targets to throw to this year. The numbers showed that Favre was better than you're making him last year before the injury. Of course I won't ignore that Favre is 39 and Cutler is likely to improve. But for this 1 year, I don't expect either to vary significantly from last year. Favre would have better weapons around him, Cutler would have inferior to what he had. I also won't discount the injury possibility with Favre at his age. However I expect him to take fewer hits this year and not throw as much. Favre will not have better options than he had last year.
