  1. That's a journeyman. The fact that he didn't play for Minnesota doesn't matter, he's 25 and with his 3rd organization.
  2. I'm not necessariliy criticizing the move, more the fact that they put themselves in this position. Chad was never going to be the longterm solution. He's a brittle guy with a weak arm and he's missed big chunks of time in most of his seasons. That's 3 straight 2nd round picks on a QB and now some sort of draft pick for another, and they still don't have a clear QB of the future.
  3. Miami has used a 2nd rounder on a QB in three consecutive drafts, and signed a veteran before last season, and they still need to go out and trade for a crappy veteran journeyman? That is Bear-like.
  4. There are a few systems where it works. There must be 1, 3, 5, etc. going on at once. The Bob Costas' system is one in which it does work. It is the major hurdle in the 15/15 system. It works, and it's not that hard.
  5. This has letdown game written all over it, for the Lions. They did a lap around the field high fiving fans after a win against the Redskins. It's understandable, but it's not the sign of a team poised to maintain that momentum into a tough road environment. 11 is a lot of points, but that's Vegas doing it's best to get people to take Detroit.
  6. Opening night at noon, sweet.
  7. The fans already booed him every step he took. The status quo was unacceptable. They couldn't just have Milton repeatedly insulting the organization and the fans, refusing to play and fighting with personel. It's a perfectly valid suspension and it's laughable that you think otherwise. Every team knew the Cubs/Milton relationship was growing sour, the fact that Hendry acknowledged it with a suspension is meaningless. Guys can't be given all the rope they want. At some point in time, you have to call them out. He didn't screw up a damn thing.
  8. Byrnes has a .230 .278 .514 line against LHP this year, they need to get that murderer off the street. You're right though, it's not the worst idea, playing with only 2 OF would be the worst idea.
  9. More details are needed before drawing that conclusion. If Bradley is getting paid during the suspension, the MLBPA can't file a grievance. They can file anything they want, and they do. It's the most argumentative of all sports unions. They will stand up for guys who don't even want to be stood up for. And no, we don't need more evidence. He's a complete jerk, was suspended and accepted it with an apology. Let's move on.
  10. It was with Nets, but I don't think anymore. I agree though, a Cubs only network would be horrible. CSN-c is pretty good with several events and coverage of all teams. YES networks have 2 things going for it, Yankees games, and simulcasts of Mike Francesa (formerly Mike and Mad Dog) other than that it is completely useless. They've won 26 WS and have many more all-time greats to talk about and I don't know a Yankees fan who likes the channel.
  11. He handled it fine. In your opinion, and in our opinion he didnt. You have a ridiculous opinion. A repeat a-hole got suspended toward the end of a wasted season. BIG FREAKING DEAL. Jim doesn't want to talk about it with the media anymore. BIG FREAKING DEAL. As Sheehan pointed out a couple days ago, suspending a player for negative comments to the media is pretty much unprecedented. He used the line that the last non-drug suspension of this length was when Albert Belle attacked a heckler. And it's also painfully obvious that Bradley's comments were not the only thing that got him suspended. It's an ongoing situation with repeat offenses that apparently included refusing to take the field and multiple run-ins with coaches. And on top of it all, Bradley has accepted the suspension and the MLBPA is not filing any sort of grievance, so we can all be pretty damn sure the suspension was warranted.
  12. I don't think it's an issue that he doesn't want to talk to the media about it anymore. I think there is a bit of a issue with the fact that Hendry feels there's nothing to discuss with Bradley though, unless Bradley was 100% accurate when he said the air has been cleared. It looks to me like he's done talking to the media about the Bradley situation, but even if he is talking about Bradley, there really isn't anything to talk about right now. He's suspended until the rest of the year and his camp has agreed to the arrangement. When the time comes in the offseason they can decided what to do. There's no reason for Hendry to talk to Bradley about anything right now. If cooler heads are going to prevail, it's not going to happen a couple days after the suspension was handed down, it's going to come in October and November, after Hendry hears what he might get for Milton. It's not like Milton is a free agent who is at risk of walking away from the team. Who gives a crap if he ignores him for a few days?
  13. I've been the biggest anti-Hendry person on this board for several years but there's nothing wrong with how he's handled this so far. If he dumps the guy for nothing and pays him to play elsewhere, that's a problem. But he hasn't done anything worth whining about in regards to the suspension.
  14. I've been to Citi 3 times this year in really good seats and the stadium sucks.
  15. Are you freaking kidding me? They aren't the same person are not in the same position. This is so incredibly stupid. Stop with the nonsensical woe is Milton crap.
  16. The correct answer is Soriano, and it really is correct. Bradley and Z shouldn't even be in the discussion.
  17. Not worried, not anymore than most games. This is the first one that I'm expecting a win. It would be a very disappointing loss.
  18. I think this is kind of ridiculous. I'm a fan of the Cubs. My main goal is to see them win a WS. But I really like watching them play live, both on the road and at home. I enjoy the Wrigley experience much more than most other fields, especially suburban parking lot stadiums. I'd hate to watch them at your high school. I'm all for a serious renovation at the current location but would be really pissed if they moved to some suburb.
  19. Is this a function of focusing on college guys who end up going to Boise first, or does it expose a lack of investment in the young latin America market?
  20. Because he would have fought the move to the DL, the MLBPA would have gotten involved and it never would have worked. That would create a hell of a lot more animosity and a "there's no coming back" situation than the current team suspension. Hmmm, I wonder if that's part of the reason he was suspended. Hendry went to DL him due to the knee issue, Bradley told him no he was able to play, and then when called upon said he couldn't. I'm sure the recent can play/can't play taking himself out stuff was involved in the whole discussion.
  21. Z goes berzerk in the heat of the moment of trying to win a game. Bradley carries around a ton of baggage day in day out, criticizes the organization and paying customers and takes any generic question about play on the field into some existential BS about hatred and negativity. I don't think anybody gave a crap about Bradley going off on that ump for the bad called strike 3 early in the year. It was all the other BS. Z also performs well year in and year out (and despite everybody calling him out this year, he's still been pretty good) whereas Milton Bradley has been Ryan Theriot with slightly more pop this season.
  22. Because he would have fought the move to the DL, the MLBPA would have gotten involved and it never would have worked. That would create a hell of a lot more animosity and a "there's no coming back" situation than the current team suspension.
  23. I've been reading about him the last couple years and he's pretty much the reason why I can't hate Miami anymore.
  24. Hendry had no leverage to begin with.
