  1. You know, that had a certain, "I'M A MAN, I'M 40!!!" vibe to it.
  2. For me it's more like as long as the Cubs are good it's tolerable, but when they aren't it's annoying. And I see no reason to apologize for that. He's a douchebag, but if he's performing well I don't care too much.
  3. what happened? Presumably the fact that he gave up 2 runs. For his first win since July 22nd? Against the Pirates? Funny guy, you are. Actually Z got pissed that Lou took him out. They got into a heated discussion in the dugout. Heavens to Betsy. Theodore would never pull such shenanigans.
  4. what happened? Presumably the fact that he gave up 2 runs. The Cubs played a game today?
  5. There is zero need to look for a "leadoff hitter." In an ideal world Fukudome and Bradley are already slotted as the #1-2 hitters for the rest of their time in Chicago. I wouldnt hold your breath on that one happening. Bradley is a middle of the order lefty DUDE, he isnt a number 2 hitter. Lou has been willing to have Bradley bat 2nd a lot, what he hasn't been willing to do is have those back to back lefties at the top of the order.
  6. am I missing something here?
  7. what happened?
  8. He actually had a piece praising Cutler's performance in Denver. I was shocked. He's hedging his bets. I've seen him a couple times basically just try and be the devil's advocate saying people are too optimistic, even though Cutler is good.
  9. Is he downgraded for age or because of how much time he's spent in low A ball?
  10. He makes 4.2m this year, I'd have to think he gets more than that, close to 5 maybe. I think the Cubs would have to offer at least about 3.8
  11. This is the same garbage that prompted my semi-rant last night, right down to the comparison to the Broncos defense. Better or worse than the Rick Morrissey "lots of optimism without any realism" column this morning? I just saw the headline on my blackberry and assumed who wrote it and how crappy it was.
  12. I know a girl who has an adverse reaction to lots of alcoholic beverages, but the one thing that doesn't give her problem is Tila's drink of choice, tequila.
  13. Why do the Cubs have a 42 year old man pitching in A ball?
  14. This was the story a couple days ago, and she refuted it by saying she's allergic to alcohol and that it's publicly known.
  15. Because he's not good? And yes he not the biggest issue with the team currently but he's still the same guy who everyone wanted gone last year and the year before that and it's not like he's gotten markedly better. Hot garbage is...well...still garbage. Who are you going to replace him with? Will giving up 3-4 players to get someone like Reyes and pay him a ton of money make the Cubs into WS winners? Theriot is a role player that fits pretty well in the Cubs framework. He's not a guy who can carry the team alone for a few weeks, but how many shortstops can? He was the everyday SS on a 97 win team last year and would have done the same this year if some of his team mates could have stayed off the DL, produced as expected, and used their bats to hit baseballs instead of Gatoraide machines. Being the starting SS on a 97 win team is meaningless in and of itself. Theriot took a step back this year. And going on 30, typically a bad age for middle infielders especially mediocre ones like Theriot isn't a good thing. He's mediocrity personified.
  16. The excitement would dwindle, but the opportunity for success would not disappear.
  17. It's not specifically seeking out only a shortstop. It's not limiting your options. My argument is that moving Theriot to second if we can find a good upgrade at SS should not be ruled out. The goal, however, is not to move Theriot to second. The goal is to upgrade SS and then keep Theriot in the lineup by moving him to second. We can also platoon Theriot and Fontenot at second and then either use Baker as a super-sub, trade him or let him walk and save some money. In his career, Theriot has OPSd .824 against lefties. Baker has done better, but with his terrific numbers as a Cub this year, he might have more trade value than Theriot (though neither would have a lot). There's also the option of finding a SS upgrade, platooning Baker/Fontenot and trading Theriot. It's all about having as many options as possible when our overall options are limited as it is. Refusing to move Theriot to second further limits our options needlessly. I don't really think there should be any sort of goal involving keeping Theriot in the lineup. In 2 of his 3 full seasons, he has been a rather lackluster hitter, he's not a good fielder and he turns 30 in a couple months, which indicates his usefulness as a middle infielder may be dwindling soon as he loses whatever step he had on the competition. If you can't find a better replacement, so be it, but they should try.
  18. No it isn't. At most it depends on 2 other guys, but more often than not it just depends on the QB getting the ball and falling forward before the lineman react.
  19. You're trying really hard to talk yourself into that one, and in the end you still have nothing positive to say about the player. ;)
  20. Yeah, I don't get how people can think Cubs fans wouldn't accept such change from the new owner when during the relatively brief Trib years it changed quite a bit.
  21. Craig Counsell: I'm too old for this [expletive] On the video at least one guy is standing to the left there.
  22. Unless he feels that he wants to go with something different. The Cubs will do something to sell tickets in February. I wasn't even thinking Ryno, but that would work for many.
  23. I hope for Jackson's sake it wasn't Sandberg....he's probably your Cubs manager of the future...very near future... I sure as hell hope not. That's got disaster written all over it. I'm not saying I agree with it or not, I just have this feeling that it will happen sooner rather than later. It seems clear to me that Hendry has that ultimate goal, and Sandberg just has to put his time in first...which he's been aggressively promoted so far. Hopefully Hendry doesn't even get the chance to make such a decision.
