    He can be a gunner on Peter King's team anyday. I would have to agree. I don't see the need for veteran know how when that veteran don't know how to catch a football. If you want to hang onto a solid veteran who has lost a step due to his veteran presence, fine. But I can't imagine Davis having any use as a wise old man capable of teaching the kids anything.

    I think more highly of Petersen than you do. I don't think he's an all-pro by any stretch, but I think he's quicker than Jones right now, and has been in this system for quite some time with some bad QB's and o-lines. With both of those significantly better, I think he could do pretty well. I think he's a whole lot better than Wolfe. I think he was an okay backup for a couple years but he's 30 now and not that talented, and it shows.

    I guess that's amusing, but I don't really get what news item it's coming from. They don't just take a news item and tweak it. They make stuff up, and it comes from the notion that ND sucks.

    Peterson is more of a special teams contributor than Wolfe, and neither of those two is a better backup RB option than Jones. If one has to go, it's Wolfe who has done nothing in the NFL so far. I understand wanting to keep more WR in the hopes of having one develop with Cutler. I think Jay is going to turn one of these guys into a legit threat. I just don't see it with Jones. I know he used to have some legs but every time I've seen him run with the Bears, he manages to go where the holes aren't. I think he's safe...I don't think the Bears are going to take my suggestion...but I wouldn't shed a tear if Jones wasn't around. I'd be happy with Wolfe being gone, but I don't see that one happening unfortunately. I wouldn't shed a tear if Jones left either, but I think he's the only hope this team has for a legit backup RB. The other guys are not, and they make each other redundant.

    Jones may not have shown much, but this season is going to depend heavily on production at RB. Forte has to be rested and Peterson just isn't good. He has shown some glimpses in the past, but I can't recall seeing any the past couple years. I'd be all for cutting Wolfe to keep Rideau, but not Jones.

    And that's the type of thing Silver is criticizing the Bears for not doing. He quotes another owner who is saying you can milk so much more revenue out of the franchise (aka fleece the fans for more money).

    That ownership story is pretty stupid. First off, it's written by Silver, who is just plain old awful. But second of all, what it is basically saying is that the Bears should be more like Dallas and Washington, AKA bloated disgusting behemoth Disney-fied organizations. They are saying the Bears should have some 70,000 seat monstrosity in the outer suburbs with giant parking lots and all the bells and whistles (paid for by the taxpayers of course). Sure the Bears leave some money on the table. They don't have cheerleaders or a giant Pirate ship in the stadium, but big deal. They aren't a public corporation. They are privately owned. They are financially stable, they have been in contention for several years, they pay well, are loyal to employees and spend a lot on players. They aren't penny pinching buffoons or overly involved idiots. They run a nice organization.

    They are owned by Comcast, I believe, which is a direct competitor with Directv, so I could see this being about more than just getting the most money for versus as possible.

    There aren't that many games on versus though, so I'm not that concerned. If I really want to see one of them I can go to a bar with cable.

    There you have it. Has done little since his June 15 comments about wanting to improve from where he was going into that series against the White Sox in June. Indeed a line of .293/.433/.447 makes Bradley the Cubs' "biggest disappointment" in the world of Tim Sassone. Perhaps Steve Stone was the ghost writer of this article. The fact that people are still claiming that Bradley played the race card is amazing. I read that this morning and was thoroughly annoyed. Bradley has earned some criticism this year, but it should be accurate. It's completely ridiculous to assert that Bradley is both the biggest disappoint and that he's done nothing since they last saw the Sox. I mean, it makes him sound like a complete idiot, and normally I think Sassone writes some sensible stuff.

    This is nothing like that Bulls team. I doubt they win the Cup either, but this is a legit high quality team, the Bulls were not.

    I doubt that. He's been consistently better throughout his career, has a better approach that would be much less prone to sudden decline, he'd be a year younger when signing it and it would last a year less. 7/135 in this offseason is not equal to 7/135 in the '06-'07 offseason. I don't understand how Soriano's contract being a year longer is a hindrance. You don't think Soriano is going to be worth 1M in the 8th year of his deal? *(This all hinges on Soriano sucking this year due to injury, not due to sucking) He's not making 1m in the last year, he'd be making slightly less per year for one year longer. And regardless of what the reason was for this year's sucking, everybody knew he was going to suck eventually under this deal, with or without injury. His approach lends itself to sudden and steep fall much moreso than Holliday, who will be younger when such a contract would be at the end. And I don't see what 06/07 and 09/10 matters, if people are handing out the money, it's there. Last year sucked but the big money guys still got big money. And that is going to be the case still.

    I doubt it mainly because I expect the Cubs to come into the season with a veteran 2B and SS (Theriot). I doubt they'd give him a chance to be a backup in the big leagues. I feel like they will almost have to go cheap there again and won't have a legit option to go with veterans, unless they come back with Theriot, Fontenot, Blanco and Baker.

    If Castro projects as a SS, and everybody who sees Theriot knows he isn't a long-term short with his no range and no arm, but wouldn't it make sense tomove Theriot over to 2B and give Castro the shot at SS? It worked (or in the process of working) with the Rangers moving the established but the inferior player of the position to a new position? If Young can move to 3rd, then Theriot should be able to move to 2b. Yeah I don't get this "he projects as a SS but would have to play 2B for a while" theory. He's supposed to somehow get better at short by playing 2nd? The only reason such a player should have to start at 2B is if there is a superior incumbent at the position.

    I'd be for playing him next year with Theriot at 2b. You better hope to heck that Soriano and Soto have significant reboud seasons because that middle infield would be as bad or less productive than this years.

    Hill has an OPS over 1000 the past 4 weeks, Soto is below 500 for the same time period, what's the big deal? It's probably not a big deal in the sense that the season is likely over, but Soto is clearly the better player regardless of what Hill has done the last four weeks. Who do you think is likely to have the better OPS in September? I would guess Soto, but it's no lock, and that doesn't really matter. Hill is hot and Soto is cold, I don't see what is wrong with Hill getting this start.

    Is there any chance he gets a look for the 2010 team? He's young, but he's already in AA, and it seems that once a guy gets to AA guys get a chance to win a spot.

    He could do both. Run Milton out of town and make a big splash by signing Matt Holliday. That would be a terrible splash. I'd love that move. Matt Holliday's career: .318/.387/.547 Milton Bradley's career: .279/.373/.453 Holliday is also two years younger, stays healthier and considerably less volatile. While Bradley has a tolerable contract the next two years and Holliday will get something much more ridiculous.

    QFT I would guess it's Soriano far and away number 1. With the combo platter at 2B plus Ramirez's injury necessitating those guys playing more, Soto. Bradley contributed to early struggles but overall has made up for it, and probably then some. And you probably have to throw in Theriot a bit there. He hasn't been as bad as 2007, but he's taken a step back from 2008, and he's been brutal in the second half.
