  1. What do you mean why not? First off, I never said anything about exapt replicas or duplication. I'm saying the trend of the last decade showed the Cardinals organization can win consistently much better than the Cubs can, and the Cubs haven't done any of these thing people are assuming they will do. They haven't made any management moves. We don't know where they will go. We've heard some words from the owners but words are meaningless. The last 10 years doesn't mean the Cubs can't win, but I never said that. It has nothing to do with luck or pixie dust or any of that crap, the Cardinals have had a better track record, and I'm not talking about ancient history either.
  2. We also have superior resources and a superior farm system. Same thing was said at the start of the last decade. Except they had a garbage MLB roster and didn't have a resource advantage. Seriously, say something positive about the Cubs. It's almost fun to like your favorite team. The Cubs had a clear resource advantage the last decade. What do you want me to say? This is a poorly run organization with a highly flawed roster. They are the big dog in their division and haven't come close to ruling over it. I could just have blind faith that things will get better, but until they actually do something I'm not going to assume they will be all that good. I've said it's dumb to hand the title to the Cardinals, and I'm not doing that. But they do deserve much more benefit of the doubt than the Cubs. I have plenty of good things to say about the Blackhawks, as they are actually a good well run team after decades of poor decision making. I had some nice things to say about the Bears a few years ago, but they are run by inept stubborn morons and much like the Cubs blew a great opportunity. Until the Cubs or Bears start actually doing good things, and not circle jerking the .500 line, I'm not going to praise their work.
  3. I completely disagree. First off, we don't know what all these changes are, when they will happen, or if they will be the right ones. Second, STL has proven they can dominate the division without being the big dog, that is meaningful. I don't see how anybody can look at 6 division titles and 1 wild card win while fighting an uphill battle against a stronger franchise and not think it's an indication of what would happen the next ten years.
  4. Hey, that's baseball. The Cubs have a new owner and Hendry isn't going to be around for much of this decade and even his crappy contracts can't be used as an excuse to be saddling the team after a couple of years. What happened over the last 10 years isn't any kind of sure thing to happen again over the next 10 years. There are no sure things, other than that chick from that movie Sure Thing, but the Cardinals organization has earned the benefit of the doubt much moreso than the Cubs organization has. It may be new ownership, but they haven't done anything yet, and management in completely intact.

  6. Shoop and Gruden, and of course Shanahan. I think the good outweighs the bad. Every coach is going to have some ties to some duds.
  7. Well this Bates guy may never have been an OC, but I'm reading that he called plays in Denver. I would take an unestablished high caliber guy over just another retread OC with experience. I'd prefer a guy who could legimately stand a chance at being the offensive guru this organization desperately needs for the next decade. Although I hope they look at that Pittsburgh guy as well, especially if he was really fired for being too pass-oriented and not enough Pittsburghish as was reported. interesting, i didn't know that bates called the plays in denver. that's cool. I didn't know either, but that's what a read somewhere.

  9. I'm not one who needs a big name head coach, or a DC who has been a DC before or an OC who has been an OC before. But I do need to see more NFL coaches rather than the typical Lovie "teachers" who come up from the college ranks. His first staff was a joke. And it never got better as Turner showed up and then Rivera left. I think Bates has enough pro experience to qualify, but if he's the OC, I also want a professional coach as the QB coach, and most importantly an NFL offensive line coach. As for a random assistant with the "coach killer" comment, coaches are notorious CYA douchebags. Almost every single one of them blames the execution of their gameplans instead of their gameplans themselves. Failed Bears offensive coaches can really only hope that somebody in charge of hiring falls for the coach killer moniker so they can still get jobs after the abysmal job they've done for years.
  10. I realize that, it is foolish to assume the Cardinals have anything locked up. However, until the Cubs make changes and improvements, I will downgrade their chances.
  11. They dominated the division in the 2000's when they shouldn't have. There's no good reason why they should dominate the division going forward, but there's no good reason why Jim Hendry is the Cubs GM, so I wouldn't assume it can't happen.
  12. Wasn't Weis gone before Cassel got there?
  13. The Cards may end up running away with it, but I wouldn't hand them the title to them.
  14. Weis >>>> Bates. It's easy to see why the Bears are Weis' second choice though. Really? A crappy organization with a crappy coach who could easily lose his job in the near future? Sounds like they are similar situations. I could see why Weis would sign with the first one to offer the job, but I don't see why KC would be his first choice of Chicago.
  15. Because Kirk Hinrich was wide open, and it was a point blank 15 foot shot and hes the shooting guard and....how the hell did he miss that shot? That's as close of a gimme as a jump shot can be. I'm sorry if you can't trust your starting SG to hit a 15 foot jumper uncontested and point blank in the clutch, you have big problems. That's not even getting into his wide open 3 pointer he also missed. He's horrible and getting worse every year. So Hinrich is starter? I thought he was demoted. Or was he recently promoted?
  16. The Cubs had injury prone guys get injured. Zambrano isn't injury prone, neither is Soto, Ramirez is injury prone. Lilly isn't injury prone. Zambrano has been dealing with nagging crap for a few years, and has been predicted by many to be due for a phsyical meltdown. If anything the Cubs are probably lucky he's lasted as long as he has without missing much more time. And Soto is a catcher. A fat catcher at that, they are all injury prone. Again, Lilly is a 30-something pitcher who has been banged up at times in the past, those guys miss chunks of time quite frequently. The Cubs also got a shockingly healthy season out of Milton Bradley.
  17. That's always assumed.
  18. Yeah, it is, but then you look at Ortiz and you realize it's inevitable.
  19. Well it's a more team friendly contract for a younger, more productive player whose skillset is probably less susceptible to decline, so I'd say it's a good bet they get more out of it without luck coming into play.
  20. The Cubs had injury prone guys get injured. They also had guys like DLee have a remarkably resurgent season, and Randy Wells come out of nowhere to be great. And they lost Harden and Bradley and gained Byrd and Silva. Let's not pretend this was all a luck thing. The Cubs were good in 2008, downgraded over the offseason, had a lot of old injury prone players and it bit them in the butt.
  21. The Bears cannot lose, looking forward to the weekend.
  22. The only people it faked were the cameramen, or director, who were slow to pick up on what was happening (although not as bad as NU game). I also didn't think that 3rd down pass was catchable, unless that guy has crazy leaping ability or my angles in my head were way off. I don't mind passing there, and passing again. I was just thinking that running on 3rd and leaving the option open on 4th was the best way to go at the time.
  23. I don't know about Coomer, but I think Stynes was considered a jerk by many, and was the guy who threw a ball toward a media members head (missing) .
  24. Next, they will be emailing you requests to pre-order playoff tickets. I get that from Philly and the Giants all the time.
