  1. I was always under the impression that home ice isn't that big of a deal in hockey.
  2. That last point is quite possible, however, they may have just realized the future was so cloudy that it wasn't worth keeping a line on a game that could swing so huge before Saturday.
  3. CBS sportsline pick-em league has Bears getting 1.5 points, and 68% of people are picking Vikings.
  4. Maybe so, but I'd almost guarantee that the Mets wouldn't think twice about making that deal either. Doesn't that make sense if it's a terrible trade for the Cubs? I guess I didn't word it right. I don't think the Mets would do that deal either is what I was trying to say. I would think they should, but I think they place way too high of a value on Reyes for him to even be a part of a bad contract swap type of deal. I agree with the original statement though......It wouldn't help the Cubs at all, if you ask me. I don't know how the new regime thinks of him, but most of Metland had soured heavily on Jose Reyes.
  5. Jenn Sterger met with NFL today, this is very clearly a conspiracy to benefit the Bears.
  6. DeWitt is an upgrade over Theriot. The key to whether the trade was good is how the two prospects develop. If they become good major leaguers, it was a good deal. If they flame out, it was a poor trade. And so far, as has been said, the Bradley for Silva deal has had good results. The trade may have been a bad idea, but it's worked out so far. not really. They've got a fat heartcase on their hands that can't be counted on for anything but almost has to be given a spot. Silva certainly contributed more than Bradley would have in 2010 and with the extra money they signed Byrd. I don't know how anyone can knock that deal. As for 2011, we will have to see what happens. I don't know how anybody can give "points" to Hendry for the deal. He put himself in a crappy situation. There aren't points awarded for theoretical wins based on deals. The Cubs have a fat heartcase on the roster with a ridiculously inconsistent track record. They didn't win anything.

  8. What does that even mean?
  9. And then be flabbergasted that anybody would have a problem with it.
  10. Why is this sad? Why is sad even on the list of words you would consider using in that sentence? There are 16 teams in each conference, you can't play them all every other year. Who gives a crap that Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco may only play each other 3 times in 11 years? Do you know how many times Peyton Manning and McNabb have played each other? 3 times. Who cares? You know....pointing out how much you don't care about something, without being prompted, shows that you at least care enough to point out that you don't care. I was prompted. He wrote the piece that prompted my response. I care that the pre-eminent writer about football in this country constantly says such stupid things.
  11. Not gonna lie, I dig them. The block numbers are nice. So much better than the orange ones.
  12. The same people who hate Fukudome for no good reason are going to hate Matsuzaka even more. He might enjoy more success in the NL, but this just makes the offense worse without really improving the pitching staff. I'd rather take back Drew.
  13. How is that a scathing review? It's been known for years that the Cubs organization was a disorganized mess. You have a product that all but sells itself and new ownership coming in. They are going to replace people when that happens. How is it not a scathing reivew? I didn't say I agreed with it, but the tone and information presented didn't paint the Ricketts clan too well. I also don't think it's common knowledge that the Cubs organization was/is a disorganized mess, but they may have been/are. I think the general perception is that the peopele he fired were doing a good job b/c attandence has been so high. I don't have an opinion one way or the other, I just thought the article was an interesting, albeit predictible take on the new owners. It read to me like sour grapes. Whining about a person who has "bled blue" for 10 years being fired from a job reflects more on the person doing the whining. Something scathing would have to have some substance to it. The marketing department was led by Mcwhathisface, but as the sale process went on the top dogs left and they just filled positions. It seems pretty likely that people were just filling roles they may not have been suited for. I'm surrprised it took them so long to fire some people. But if they didn't like the way the team was being marketed or how useless the vine line is, then why can't they replace people in those roles?
  14. This is being denied now, just turned on the radio and they were laughing about how something he said was taken out of context and caused a lot of talk on twitter. Coach Chizik also denied this 'rumor'. It's very frustrating to me that everyone already believes Cam, his father, and/or Auburn Univeristy are guilty of wrong-doing that will require suspensions, vacating wins, etc. I believe AU wouldn't have allowed Cam to play this season if anything was going to result from the so far baseless accusations. they had a long time to review this prior to the season beginning. And thought they could get away with it.
  15. I'm guessing he gets more than 1 year, at least a player option that vests without a hell of a lot of PA. He made $10m this year, and can probably get $9+ this year despite the off season. Maybe a 1 year deal for $9m, with a team option for $14m next season and a $1-2m buyout. But he can probably get something like he got last time, 3 years.
  16. Yeah, I don't think it's baffling. It's not what the Cubs have been known for recently, but I think they were just handing out 3-4 year deals before, it's not like they were signing managers for 6 years. A guy with limited opportunities elsewhere isn't going to sign long term and there is no reason for the Cubs to offer more than they have to to get him signed.
  17. I have no idea but if either Texas or Michigan are in it I will be going. Why is somebody complaining about more football on New Years? I love watching football all freaking day long and would happily watch more.
  18. She makes good points

  20. Yes, I would imagine he would prefer that. But if you are only getting 2 years guaranteed, then giving the club an option year on top of that isn't in your own best interests. That was the point. For him it is the worst of both worlds. Only guaranteed a gig for 2 years, but if he does well then he doesn't have leverage to renegotiate because the team controls the 3rd year.
  21. They've been disrespected the past 3 years and are under .500.
  22. Might be a better idea to tweak the party rather than cancel it. FYI, tons of famous people are involved in charity.
  23. Why is the 2 year deal odd? Std. practice for a inexperienced manager tends to be either a 2 or 3 year deal. He has a 2013 club option, so he got something in the middle. 2 years with a club option isn't really in the middle of 2 or 3. The benefits of a longer contract is you have more guaranteed. The benefits of the shorter contract is you can renegotiate sooner or become a free agent. I would assume he would have preferred a straight 2 rather than giving the team an option for year 3. Right now he's not getting the benefit of a 3 or a 2.
  24. Let me clarify - I'd be ok with signing Westbrook if Rothschild was pretty confident he could turn him into Lilly or close to him. Why? It's not like Larry has a long track record of turning castoffs into really good pitchers. And I don't care how confident he is.
