  1. Not striking out is the new walking.
  2. Well, only Castro is likely to be around by the time Vitters would become a staple in the lineup.
  3. an ERA over 7 in AAA this year, with a WHIP of nearly 1.6
  4. No, their ASG was yesterday. Only AAA still has theirs around the big league one. The futures game is still around the MLB ASG, correct?
  5. I thought they just had the asg.
  6. http://www.csnchicago.com/baseball-chicago-cubs/cubs-talk/Dempster-Wells--what-it-means-to-be-a-bi?blockID=727476&feedID=661 Patrick Mooney and Randy Wells want us to regret thinking about trading Dempster. Why? I mean I guess if Wells was some sort of Dennis Rodman type player and Dempster was that guy who seemingly babysat him I would think about it. But I don't really care that Ryan Dempster bought a bunch of McDonald's breakfast sandwiches for 20 year olds while he was rehabbing. Yeah, without that leadership where would this team have been the last three years. That leadership is so very important to maintaining the clubhouse atmosphere for a team that loses a hell of a lot more than it wins. Where would your career be without him? Where is your career with him? You are a forgotten man whose career has sort of gone off the tracks after a bright start. If a lack of a Dempster would have made your career worse, then you really are a hopeless pitcher.
  7. I'm just saying that didn't look like what happened with vintage Marmol, and that calling what he did vintage is a bit of a stretch. He was decent Marmol, as opposed to wildly erratic Marmol. But vintage Marmol was on a whole other planet.
  8. That sure didn't look like vintage Marmol stuff last night. The control wasn't there, but the stuff sure was. He's had several outings since his return where his fastball average velocity was higher than any point since 2010, and while I don't have the graphs in front of me, his slider sure looks sharper. He's not "fixed" or anything like that, but it's very encouraging to see that he still has the tools in the toolbox. I don't think anybody was hitting sharp balls down the line against vintage Marmol like what happened last night.

  10. Do you not remember the 3 months between when we "signed" Jorge Soler and when we signed Jorge Soler? That's exactly what he is saying. Why did he wait until now to defect when its unlikely he'll be a FA before the deadline. But as pointed out above, defecting isn't a matter of saying, 'I think I'll defect from Cuba today' I for one applaud his patient approach to getting off the island.
  11. I have a hard time imagining what sort of already arrived MLB player they could get that would make it worth their while to deal him. The whole service time issue would be more or less a wash and then you'd be trading for the sake of a trade rather than resupplying the system as a whole. You'd likely be trading Barney's certainty for more upside, and probably at a different position. Barney is so valuable despite his lack of star potential because he's pretty well proven his ability to be average at worst(plus defense, .270 hitter in 900+ PA) with so many team controlled years in front of him. Taking on someone with more risk but more potential reward could be worth their while. I agree that it's not an easy fit, which combined with all that Barney offers makes it an unlikely match. I guess an arm would make sense. But would they trade a starting caliber 2B (who could probably start at SS) for a reliever? God I hope not. Starting pitching is probably valued higher than a guy with the perception of being an over achieving utility player.
  12. http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/teams/indians.html I could have missed it

  14. Doesn't show up on historical BA top ten, but they did list him as the 2013 starting 2B back in 2010.
  15. Podlesh is a hell of an athlete. He's a kicker, they all golf well. Like pitchers, they have the time.
  16. Jed's job is to negotiate the deals, but Theo is the big swinging johnson in the room, the celebrity who can have a conversation with a $15m pitcher and be on even ground. My guess is they had a meeting to decide who would be best to talk to Dempster and it was determined Theo was the man for that duty.
  17. What exactly is wrong with asking a question? Bill Simmons brings it up every time he talks to Stern. "Hey commissioner, were you involved in the cover-up on the Bison Dele murder?" "Just asking a question here" It's not a random question out of nowhere, it's a question on a topic that people discuss all the time. And a topic that Stern has heard discussed all the time.

  19. Wow that's a whole lot of dumb. People say that stuff about the NBA and not the NFL because there has been a whole bunch of things to make people think the NBA does that stuff and nothing to indicate the NFL does.
  20. huh huh, huh huh, Barbara's snapper, huh huh, huh huh
  21. Yeah, but they are only good when you have 1 or 2 in the everyday lineup, combatted by 1-3 really good players to pick up some of the slack. I know this season is lost, and knew i was before it started, but God this sucks a lot. Yep, it does suck, but once you go in with it you gotta go all in.
  22. Not only is Vitters one who could benefit from more time developing, but more time developing specifically with the regime in charge. I'd like to see him after a good year plus of this sort of input, input that he obviously never had under the previous regime.
