  1. It was just about this time a year ago that TT (and myself, and others) repeatedly made it abundantly clear that we didn't have to go through this year of suck. Epstein disagreed. What makes you so confident that this time will be different? He's had a full year to assess the roster and the organization as a whole. He likely has a better feel for certain players' capabilities, and he's probably identified players from other teams that could help the Cubs. They didn't have a lot of time to do any of that last offseason. Personally, I think they'll be much more active in the trade market this offseason, particularly trades like Rizzo for Cashner. In short, this year was unnecessary, but understandable. Going through this nonsense again would be a horrible display of ineptitude.
  2. Unbelievable. Again, why not actually CONTRIBUTE? Are you even CAPABLE? If you can't see that if LaHair can prove he's an .800 OPS guy in the majors, he'd have solid value as a pre-arb guy, then I have zero clue how to deal with your trolling. But, with us in our current position, there is no reason at all, for lack of options, to not at least give him the chance to see if he is that guy. He's been playing all year and after a hot start he's been awful for a long time. And that is with hiding him from LH pitching. He's had that chance. And it's just stupid to say he's the only player that could possibly have trade value.

  4. You don't think the Cubs will have anything they can trade worth as much as Marshall was last year? Are you still hung up on Sappelt? Not as much, but I'm regaining my confidence in Wood and I still like Torreyes a ton (bad BABIP luck notwithstanding, his skills have held up well this year). If Garza and Dempster are gone at the deadline, who is left that can be a part of that type of trade. Soto, I guess, if he has a strong second half? Samardzija.
  5. I like Kustok because I can't make up my mind about her looks, she has a ridiculous Chicago accent and her dad shot her mom. I couldn't agree with this more. Except the Chicago accent part. Haven't really noticed that. I assume that's because you live there. I am long gone and the accent is more noticeable every time I hear it. It's got to be really hard for somebody like her to get a gig outside Chicago because it is so pronounced.
  6. What is the interesting part? A player's prime is generally in the 25-28 timeframe.

  10. He regretted giving in to the pressures of always being in on every free agent and constantly playing the arms race battle with the Yankees. He regretted being so heavily veteran free agent focused. There's some middle ground here people between the obscenely stupid everybody from within scenario and what the Red Sox started doing in their desperation to stay on top and compete with the Yankees every single minute. Agreed. But I don't think Theo's interpretation of that middle ground involves the Cubs making any moves for impact, prime-year players this coming offseason. Jiminy freaking christmas that misses the point entirely.

  12. So then why the hell do you have Bryan LaHair as the starting LF? Well, we pretty much can guarantee Soriano isn't sticking around. And I've looked at FA for next year, we ain't signing Hamilton. Lee is old as hell and can't play the field anyway. Melky? Pay way up for him at this point? I can't see it. Upton? Sure, if he comes cheap enough, which I doubt. Maybe Delmon Young? Buy low guy anyway? Personally, I think we'd be better off with the LaHair/Gomes platoon I had. Personally I think it is asinine to pencil in LaHair as your starting LF on Opening Day, on purpose.
  13. Because I didn't care about the rest. I took that interview as an obviously tongue-in-cheek response/hypothetical, because God help us if it isn't. You cannot strive to make a team like that because you WILL fail at least 9 times out of 10. You took that as tongue in cheek? It seemed completely honest to me, and it completely explained everything he's done so far as president of the Cubs. Why wouldn't it explain the near future? Because he also said it's impossible and it is impossible.

You cannot strive to make a team like that because you WILL fail at least 9 times out of 10. Sounds like a sound discussion technique. You're trying to play both sides here, thinking this fantasy world where the entire team is built from within while acknowledging that even the president who made the comment you are basing it on was obviously fantasizing about an unrealistic situation.

  16. Vitters shouldn't be the opening day starting 3B next year.
  17. No. No, you don't understand and acknowledge that not all prospects work out but also think that if you give them time to work on things you enhance your chances of succeeding with them. If you fill your roster with prospects you will suck, and if you stick with them you will continue to suck, plus waste the cheap years of the guys who do work out.
  18. His career should be looked at as a whole. And his career says they'd be stupid to make him their opening day starting LF in 2013.
  19. Paul Sullivan ‏@PWSullivan Source: Craney Kenney contacting the Greek priest to bless Rizzo's locker. Stay tuned.
  20. Yea. He's awful. I don't understand how these stations pick these people and think, "Yea, that guy is enjoyable to watch and won't annoy anybody." Is the ability to speak on TV without stumbling and mumbling so rare that you hire guys who can do that but can't say anything smart and are annoying as [expletive]? Probably. Have you ever sat through an entire espnews segment? Those people can barely even do the speaking without stumbling part, let alone avoid being annoying. But most people freeze up on TV.
  21. You never heard of Chuck Garfien? He was probably the most well known "talent" to originally join CSN Chicago, as he was an ESPN and ESPNews anchor for a few years before going to CSN. He's all over the White Sox beat now. I'd never heard of him until CSN. Showtime Schanowski was the big name for me. I recognized Schanowski from something but couldn't figure out where. His bio had him as a nobody in Chicago media until after I left Chicago so I must have just seem him on random newscasts when I was back home.
  22. Paul Sulllivan has been doing this same schtick for quite some time.
