  1. And Boston has had a "dismal" first half of the season. Ken Tremendous is a funny guy but he's worse than a lot of the most whiny Cubs fans when it comes to discussing sports. I don't understand how he can go from FJM to what he is as a fan of the Red Sox.
  2. If the goal was to create a perfectly "fair" schedule, I'm sure they would try it. That's not the goal. The goal is to maintain a fiscally thriving business.
  3. His team has been well above average throughout his tenure in a salary cap league so I think that alone makes a C+ the bare minimum grade.
  4. I don't think this is new news, but it's the latest from the old guy at the trib.
  5. http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/8016912/view/full/don-imus-mike-mad-dog-fall-rise-first-all-sports-talk-station-wfan Some of you may or may not be interested in reading this oral history about the rise of the country's first all sports talk radio station, WFAN in NYC. I came to NY around the time this station was at its peak and listened a lot for a few years before it eventually just bored me. Kind of interesting story.
  6. A series record of 21-11 since the MacPhail/Hendry regime took over the Cubs would seem to indicate October has been very kind to the Yankees, very often.
  7. That has been the sort of thing I've been wanting them to do ever since MacPhail/Hendry decided to do the complete opposite (draft and develop pitchers then go sign bats).
  8. But not really, because it's only one set within the match. It would be tough to equate it to a team sport. Maybe a pitcher striking out the side three straight innings. Or a QB throwing nothing but 15 yard completed passes every play for a quarter or half.
  9. I'm absolutely with you. it's a huge mistake to take pitching for the sake of taking pitching.
  10. the cubs were in a perpetual cycle of mediocrity highlighted by occasional flashes of decentness.
  11. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/nhl-teams-most-expensive-defense-172858589--nhl.html#more-37658 Chicago has a lot of money tied into the defensive side of things.
  12. What would be the reason for that? College ball is too risky?
  13. He's younger, but he's still old. And his contract blows. I don't know what "it only makes sense" means, but I have to say there is plenty to support being against the move. Expressing interest in a free agent who may have signed a 1 year deal is hardly justification for then trading for a guy guaranteed $6.7m/year through age 38 and another $5m through age 40.
  14. Considering they currently stand to draft at the end of the 1st round, I think Pittsburgh has to be more willing to make the splash. There's a real interest in that team and momentum behind their success year-to-date.
  15. WHY THE HELL WAS HE ANNOUNCING SOME MEANINGLESS END OF SEASON GAME BETWEEN DETROIT AND NEW YORK???
  16. It's his first taste of the minors, but still slightly disappointing. Not worried yet though. I don't know how. He's terrible. Not worried about him as much as I don't care because I've already written him off as a non-factor given his velocity and results. Yeah. He's pretty much worthless, and a write off.
  17. I think Scully is an interesting change of pace in a one off situation. But sitting through an entire series against the Dodgers he's impossible.
  18. thanks for the update. Was he somebody they were rumored to be after?
  19. But they could conceivably sign every one of them for $100,000?
  20. So is there anybody intriguing left to be signed and is there any money to sign them?
  21. Then we better hope there are some below .500 teams looking to add a guy who they know won't help them in any significant games for no apparent reason.
  22. Come on now, this is lazy. Everybody knows that isn't true.
  23. Yes, but I mean like multiple guys. Crawford is a must. You can't have Crawford and Luongo on next year's record, and you aren't going to be able to trade Crawford unless you are in situation where you are bailing out Vancouver.
