  1. Bruce Miles ‏@BruceMiles2112 #Cubs Dempster probably won't start til after break Bruce Miles ‏@BruceMiles2112 #Cubs considering Coleman or Volstad for Tuesday's start in Atlanta
  2. Eric Jokisch came into Sunday's game on Monday. McNutt was pulled after 2 innings because the game was suspended due to rain. Jokisch was the scheduled Monday starter, which is when he pitched. No research. But Kaplan has been watching him pitch in person all year so he probably knows what he's talking about.
  3. I give a [expletive] because "good clubhouse guy" is absolute mythological nonsense for idiots, and he's the symbol of management not even trying this year. That's a bit much. Baseball is like any other sport...if the last couple guys are similar in talent and cost of course teams are going to go with the ones who they feel are a better fit for their clubhouse and organization. Looking back, would anyone really want Z on this team? Nothing good would come of that. He wouldn't be happy, fans wouldn't be happy and his teammates may not be happy. That's just a bunch of BS with no basis in reality. Who the EF cares about a harmonious losing clubhouse? Getting rid of Zambrano did jack freaking squat for this organization. It's a crap team because they have crap players performing crappily. If and when they ever get better it will be because they have better players performing well. I don't give a crap about a team getting along as they lose 2 out of every 3 games. No sane person should. Clubhouse guy is a worthless made up concept.

  5. But would you really want them to? Doesn't seem like that would be nearly necessary. Boras probably thinks it's necessary.
  6. balotelli's for everybody
  7. Then maybe I worded it badly. Or maybe it just is bad logic. But when I read tweets that make the guy sound like a marginal prospect, and then he gets paid 35% more than Soler did, my first reaction isn't "Ha ha, the Dodgers spent $42 million on a marginal prospect." I think the first, most obvious reaction is that the July 2 date is causing some crazy last minute spending.
  8. that's the old fashioned route of defection. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_8X9eqH4oQyg/TGvgfIIJ8sI/AAAAAAAAAeA/d5Nl-bIhJf0/s1600/cubans_on_truckboat.jpg
  9. If you don't see it, I can't help you see it. That's because you're reasoning makes no sense.
  10. I actually think you might let him pitch through this now, given the unsettled nature of the rotation, but I don't really care either way. He does need a break sometime.
  11. Well I think it's pretty obvious he is going to need a break at some point this season. It's unrealistic to think he was ever going to make 30+ starts this year for 200+ innings, given his history. So if he is going to need a break, why not give it to him while he's in the middle of pitching like crap? Because he ideally needs to work through pitching like crap. Of course he's not going to have a starter's full workload this season; it just seems rather subjective to either give him a break now or later. I mean, he needs to work through this kind of stuff at some point if he's expected to stick. No, you're dumb.
  12. It's not semantics. LaHair has a pretty crappy resume. His numbers during this slump are closer to realistic expectations than his numbers during his hot streak. It's just not true that he provides some sort of guaranteed improvement. It's nonsensical to ignore the fact that he's a 29 year old who took forever to do anything in the minors and those guys are almost always nothing more than a flash in the pan.
  13. Apri - Mid-May he destroys it but Mid-May - June is just a brief slump?
  14. point conceded. it really is unfortunate that the Cubs just signed this guy out of the local Benihana and that we don't have any record of his performance in any type of professional baseball the past several years with which we could have some idea about his abilities We do have a record of his career in the minor leagues, which was entirely unimpressive during the timeframe in which you would expect an actual big league hitter to be productive during his minor league career.
  15. It's really stupid to compare a 29 year old with no track record to a bunch of people who actually do have a track record.
  16. NFL: AroundTheLeague ‏@NFL_ATL NFL confirms move for Sunday 4:15 games to 4:25 pm ET. 4:05 games remain unchanged. Will impact about 40 games this year.
  17. Granted it's been years since I looked into it, but wasn't there a time when the sports pack would basically give you everything on the RSN's BUT the good games? LIke CSN would give you the Sports Reporters and stuff but not the Bulls games? The sports pack does give you everything but the games on the individual RSNs that are outside your viewing area.
  18. I think the sports pack is like $10/month.
  19. the Dodgers are getting a .649 OPS out of their 1B this year Lahair's posted an .890 OPS with the Cubs, including a .980 OPS vs. RHP (.475 vs. LHP) he's unquestionably a significant upgrade for them, provided they do their best to never let him face a single lefty There's very clearly some question on that. He's got a sub 700 OPS the past month and really he's been bad since early May.
  20. Baseball GMs aren't bond traders. They aren't looking for perfectly quantifiable transactions. And Ned Colletti of all people is somebody you can probably haggle with.
  21. Agreed. The states with no teams get screwed the most by the current rules. Iowa, Indy, Oklahoma, Southern Nevada (IDK if it has to do with Vegas/gambling??) all have 4-6 teams they are blackedout from. http://www.desipio.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/mlb-broadcast-map.jpg I don't see it as getting screwed. I have all the RSNs that DirecTV has to offer, and I can watch 6 teams (Royals included). I miss the WCIU games, but I'd hate being in an MLB city and be limited to just the local team. Not everybody gets, or can get, directv.
  22. I just think you'd never get anything for somebody like LaHair alone, but he could perhaps sweeten the pot for an actual trade chip like Dempster. If you'd never get anything for LaHair alone, why would somebody give you more if you threw him in? Say LaHair = #22 prospect in an organization. How does X = #4 prospect but X+LaHair = #3? More like giving your trade partner an extra incentive to make the trade rather than making the return all that much better. It's a matter of getting them interested in a deal in the first place. If you make a bunch of calls asking what people would want for Bryan LaHair, I don't see anybody responding. But if you already got them wanting to say yes on a Dempster deal, LaHair could help in the process. Maybe you can get them to throw in an extra longshot project.
