  1. I applied to both last year and didn't get a responce. I think its safe to assume that there are probably 500,000 resumes for each part time position. They probably end up hiring doctors and lawyers who are bored, not recent grads.
  2. call me crazy, but I say Hamilton does stick and actually does well. Just a hunch based on his comments after the reds got him. He seemed really determined to showcase his talent. Back to the topic, Maybe the cubs brass want to re-establish somesort of trade value to Jacque by saying they are going to keep him.
  3. here is my question. In today's sun times prior mentions how good his golf game is. Why is he allowed to play golf? Does that not potentially put more stress on his shoulder if his swing mechanics aren't perfect?
  4. After watching Italy play last year, Ive decided I'm moving back to the home country to go pro.
  5. No thanks to a guy who had a career year as a 29 year old rookie. Last year was the first year he didn't play the majority of his games in the minors. And I don't think that he has much to add in the defense department. 27 hr's and 60 rbi's = a lot of solo shots. There is a reason detroit wants to get rid of this guy and thats because he has a slim chance to repeat even last years mediocre season.
  6. I don't think that colvin is going to ever be a walk machine but hey what cubs prospect is? But I do think he'll still post pretty good on base numbers because of his ability to get hits. Heck in college last year he had 100 hits in 69 games, thats pretty good. I think he'll bounce back average wise next year with a short season under his belt. If he can develop that power, which is already pretty good 13 homeruns with clemson and 11 with boise, more walks will come. As a hitter I could see him developing into a Grady Sizemore type.
  7. My oppinion, is that sammy wasn't the same since the head shot he took. He never was that great at covering the outside of the plate but after that his swing barely reached the middle of the plate and he seemed to keep moving back in the batters box. Sliders just killed him.
  8. he went from throwing mid nineties heat in 03 and 04 to a very average 88 -90mph fast ball in 05 and to date. Seems like a lack of conditioning hasn't exactly helped him regain his form. But I wouldn't rule out the use performance enhancers
  9. this is another quote from the same article: "I think it's way too early for me to say anything other than I'm really interested, and if the opportunity presented itself, I'd love to be able to put a deal together," Colangelo said. http://www.dailysouthtown.com/sports/201049,071SPT9.article
  10. I read that full article that the quotes are taken from and it seems out of context. I'm pretty sure that he said he was interested IF they are for sale.
  11. one of the radio updates said earlier that the cubs were close to signing tomas perez to a minor league deal. Added infield depth I guess. Really doesn't deserve its own thread though.
  12. I'm pretty sure that the deals Samardzija and Huseby were the cause for the new bonus cap for each round. I believe this was just added to the last collective bargaining agreement. Apparently people were pissed that the cubs gave first round money to both those guys in the fifth and eleventh rounds. I specifically remember there were numerous articles after th Samardzija signing in which people in the know wondered whether or not Bud Selig would let a team sign a fifth round player for so much money. I really don't think there is anything alleged about his bonus, but I could be wrong.
  13. our former guy must be trying to get fired. this is nonsence. One or two guys I can see but damn. He must still be really confident in his picks. This is like that Jonathan Quinn thing times five or six, I ve lost count.
  14. Thats really all Ive heard. Though I am pretty sure his slider hasn't been the same since he had arm surgery in college. Its too bad because he was awesome in the NCAA tournement his freshman year. Maybe the slider with be better with the change in mechanics.
  15. I hope to god they don't try jones in center. I can't see that working despite having some experience there. Are there no teams interested in Jones? I would think that somebody out there would want him. Heck, his home town of San Diego is going to go with termel sledge in Left field, isn't trading for Jones a better option?
  16. I went to highschool with Grant Johnson and from what Ive heard, He'll be starting next year. I guess after Harbden took his spot in the AFL he went to instructs where he made a change in his mechanics. He was back to throwing in the mid 90's again. Last season his velocity dropped and thats why he was in the pen. But even if his velocity is back he needs to work on his secondary stuff because his fast ball has never really had a lot of movement. He's also getting old for his level and 07 is going to be a make or break year for him. But there is the update.
  17. Boras clients don't retire. Once you sign a deal with the devil you have to pay.
  18. I'm not so sure Snelling will ever live up to the minor league numbers he put up because they always came in such a small sample size. Last year was the first year he played over one hundred games in five years. He was oft injured and mismanaged and aside from his obp he was terrible this year spliting time between AAA Tacoma and Seattle. A change of senery and leagues will help.
  19. Jonathan Mayo posted his top 50 prospects in milb. Hard to believe that Veal isn't on there. I really don't think that any players from Rookie League should be on the list. Aside from that the list is headed by members of the Angels, Dodgers, Yankees and Mets. Are Tabata and Martinez really top 50 at this point? http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/app/milb/news/top50/y2006_post.jsp?content=1
  20. Yeah it seemed like Hendry was talking more in terms of Pagan getting some time out in center but there is no way he should be a starter. I like him as a bench guy/ defensive sub though because he can play all three spots with good range and arm strength.
  21. I'll take Renteria's line from last year 14 homers, 70 rbi's and .361 obp over Izturis' career year any day of the week. But mainly, I was just suggesting someone who actually has the possibility of being traded. The braves have Yunel Escobar right behind him and need the salary relief. I cant think of another team that can afford to get rid of decent hitting shortstop.
  22. I also posted this in the transactions thread about CF Hendry was on with Kap and Waddle today and said some interesting things. He reiterated that he would not pursue a long term solution in center field. Said that Pie could be given the chance to start if they feel he is ready. Also said Pagan didn't really get a fair shake with his injury last year basically implying that he could be considered in center. When referencing Pie he mentioned that Piniella is a heck of hitting coach and that he does well with young guys. Pie is a great defender. Soriano will play a corner position as Lou sees it. No Jacque Jones talk. Hendry himself is feeling better. Seems like they are leaning toward starting pie. I hope to god they can trade izturis and Jones for a shortstop, Renteria?

  24. Yeah his name is Yuliesky Gorielle. And yes he is a stud can play second third short outfield. But is probably best at a corner position. Dude is quite an athlete 5 tools and scary power. There were rumors of his defection but they ended up being untrue. When reporters finally did catch up to him he was toting the gov't line about the how great the revolution is etc. Truth is though one or both of his parents are higher ups in the Castor regime so leaving cuba would basically be a death sentance for his family. I got this all from an article I read this summer I'll see if I can find it, it might have been in spanish though.
  25. If he doesn't sign Boras probably wont be his agent anymore.
