  1. I guess the contract that wes helms gets will probably be the best measuring stick for DeRosa's contract.
  2. I should get some sort of reward for reading all 34 pages in this thread. That said this isn't that bad of a signing the deal is a little excessive. But my thinking is that we overpaid the best utility guy in baseball to stay a utility guy and have a chance to start. Thats not so bad, Hendry hasn't given him the job yet But someone else would have gaurenteed it thats for sure. I think he'll be pretty productive and the move back to the N.L. will defintely help. The way contracts have gone in the last couple of years 4.3 mil may be a steal for what Derosa provides us. Everyone loves Todd Walker and this guy is younger, a better defender, and possesses similar offensive skills. Also please stop with the JD Drew man love. I like the guy too but he is not the end all cure all. Especially in cf, where he hasn't played since 1999. If we get him great if not no more whining.
  3. I defintely think that the d-rays will make a trade now. Hopefully it will be Rocco Baldelli to us for marshall, and a couple others.
  4. Now that everyone is distracted with zito and schmidt should we go after Bonderman? I'm not sure if he is even trade bait anymore with all of the prospects the tigers just gave to the yanks but I would like to have him. I think he is a #2 in the making. The fact that he is only 23 years old is amazing to me. I like his stuff too and I think he would be really good in the N.L. Also what was the deal with him being traded from oakland a year after they drafted him in the first round?
  5. I would go z, lilly, padilla, Hill and then miller. Miller has not shown me anything yet he had two decent starts last year and an 89 mph fastball. Its hard to pencil him in period.
  6. I have no doubt that Lou has told Hendry what players he would like to get from Tampa. I'd like to see Baldelli or Dukes. I think Dukes' craziness can be turned into on the field success.
  7. there is no way I could watch him swing the bat for an entire season. He has some of the ugliest swings I have ever seen. Dude needs to stop leaving his neck at home because he's all arms.
  8. jus posted on rotoworld: According to the Los Angeles Times, the Angels may have already made an offer to Alfonso Soriano, possibly for about $80 million over six years. It's going to take more than that. Soriano seems sure to require at least $15 million per year and he might yet get $110 million-$120 million in a seven-year deal. If the Angels can sign him, they could use him in center and put Chone Figgins at third (or on the trading block). An alternative would be to use him in left and make Garret Anderson a DH, something that might work better. ha its already gone up 7 million dollars in less that 24 hours. We wont get this guy
  9. maybe it was just the order you had the pitchers in but there is no way miller is the #2 in that staff.
  10. its pretty much a given that the next player we sign will be overpaid. But I'd prefer we sign a good pitcher before we sign a guy like soriano
  11. from rotoworld According to MLB.com, the Rangers bid $27 million for Daisuke Matsuzaka, whose rights are expected to go to Boston. While the club fell short, it's nice to see that owner Tom Hicks opened the purse-strings and made a legitimate bid. That money could now be applied to an offer to Barry Zito. If they miss out on him, too, they'll likely to turn to Jeff Suppan and Ted Lilly. Also, they'd like to re-sign Vicente Padilla, though they feel he's asking for too much at the moment.
  12. I think that this is the third time that I have said this but I'm pretty sure Drew hasn't played centerfield with any regularity since 1999. Does no one find this to be a concern? Truth I'd be happy with either guy. I really don't have any allegiance towards one or the other but I think that putting a guy that has had soft tissue injuries in a position that requires covering more ground is an accident waiting to happen. Put him in right and trade jaque I'm all for it.
  13. Drew in right maybe but please not in center that is an injury waiting to happen. Especially considering he really hasn't played center field consistently since 1999. Its hard for me to see him in center again after some of the knee problems he's had. He could probably play the position well its just that with more ground to cover, your risk is higher especially with him.
  14. naples is a cool city. I used to go there alot when I was younger. It's almost always 80 and sunny even in january. There is an island called marco island that is right there too its really laid back but it has some of the best restaurants that I have ever been to.
  15. any trade for wells is going to include a shortstop my guess would be izturis. As bad as the jays middle infield was last year there is no way they go with out a proven ss this year. They'd probably want another pitcher to replace ted lilly too My guess is that it would take marshall, Izturis, and someone like barret to pry Wells away. Maybe thats too much and they'd send another prospect back. I am in no way enamored with barrets defense since that game in philadelphia. You know the rundown play where he didn't run the guy half way back to third before throwing. Instead he just threw straight to third and the guy scored. I believe that was 04 down the stretch. Anyways thats bush league and that is one of the first things that every catcher and middle infielder for that matter is taught. Plus his game calling skills are mediocre at best. I agree it would be touch to replace his offense from that position.
  16. lilly has had too many injuries for my liking.
  17. I agree that like murton theriot's approach will keep his obp up. I like his hustle and attitude. He seems to play with a chip on his shoulder and is definetely an eckstein-esque player in that respect. My question is can he really handle shortstop in the majors?
  18. true. they could be trying to save face because from my understanding they are in deep debt. So they could wait unitl to tuesday to show their fans that this was a difficult decision. ANd to make sure they don't look too desperate.
  19. alot of guys work on specific things in winter ball right? So should we or shouldn't we be concerned with his stats? I like his stolen bases 3 for 3 but it seems like he forgot to work on that walking thing.
  20. I agree with the others. If Seibu is willing to let Matsuzaka go and the bid was really that high they would have said yes very quickly. That amount of money can pay a good portion if not the entire salaries of the seibu lions. So I have deducted that one of four things is probably going on. A) Seibu's board members are, in general, internally divided about letting Matz go B) the bid is in actuallity very low and they are unsure whether the money out weight the loss c) mlb has stepped in and is investigating whether the bid was made in bad faith i.e to prevent the yankee from getting him. d) they have already made their decision and are waiting until monday our time to announce it. not that this is anything new but I'm not ready to see this thread die until we officially know.
  21. IF you could tell me drew would stay healthy I would love to have him. But given his past and the fact that he would be playing center field, assuming we don't trade jones; and the fact that he would be playing a position that he hasn't played with anysort of regularity since 1999 I would think that the odds of him getting hurt are pretty good. Especially considering his injury history. If he is playing right field its a different story. He is an on base machine when he is healthy but so was nomar. My point about wells though is that we haven't seen his best yet. He'll be 28 in december. But i agree that his current obp leaves something to be desired.
  22. wells hasn't experienced the injuries that drew has either. ANd he is younger and has not yet peaked potential wise.
  23. also said that the tribune company reiterated their desire to win during the mesa meetings. said two starters are high on our list and then a big bat. pretty much what everyone has assumed they should be doing. But its nice to hear it from an actual high ranking member of the organization.
  24. thats fox 32 chicago. In the preview they said he'd be talking about Soriano. Interesting.
