  1. Igawa does not seem to be anything more than a 4 or 5 starter. With all of the talk about him and Matsuzaka nobody seems to mention Saito as an option any more. Has any one heard any more about him? Based on the video I saw he was much better than igawa maybe a number 2 or 3 starter, just my oppinion though.
  2. true, but it seems that teams involved with the posting system have done that in the past. And it would be to their advantage not to lose 20 or 30mil of next years budget on the posting bid alone.
  3. most "experts" are saying that he could get 5/50 or 6/60 take that for what you will. If he is getting that much there better be an out clause for who ever gets him in case for some reason he stinks it up. I'm pretty sure that is standard for players who go through the posting system but with super agent Scott Boras doing the negotiating, who knows. When Seattle got Ichiro the money they used for the posting did not count against that years budget. Although that could be because they did not pay all of the 13 mil that they claimed to for the right to Ichiro. There are widespread allegations that they negotiated an under the table deal to get him. Still, almost everything that I have read has said that the posting fee doesn't get lumped in with this years budget.
  4. They waited until the last minute to trade lugo because he was going to be a free agent and they low balled him on a contract jsut prior to the trade. . And they waited unit Gathright's value was at its lowest. They also made a trade with the dodgers and the center piece was another oufielder. They have all of these part to trade for pitching and continue to sit on them. At least the old ownership got Kazmir, what has this one done? Nothing at all. They are afraid to make any deals especially with free agents. Its perpetual building mode and they are still the biggest joke in the mlb.
  5. Any unreasonable demand is always the right one for the devil rays. My guess they would want Rich Hill and Donald Veal and Hendry would slowly back away. They are the true definition of an organization with no direction. Too many outfield prospects not enough pitching. So logic would tell you that they should trade from their strength to improve their weakness. Right? No they are content to sit with Baldelli, Gomes, Dukes, Young, Crawford, Upton who should be in center, and Joel Guzman who should be in left field. That's seven major league ready hitters, some experienced some not, for three positions. Now they have these crazy ideas that dukes can play first and Guzman can go back to playing third. They keep collecting these guys and they only make a trade when free agency is about to force someone out. And even then they demand the top prospect of whom ever they're dealing with. what a joke. If they just traded two or three of these guys they could be a decent team.
  6. I could be wrong but I believe Pie has played a good portion of time in right field. He has the arm for it anyway.
  7. so is it agreeded upon that jones would be the next to go if the sheff arrives? where to and for who? I know that if we have to trade we have to deal from our strengths, the bullpen, but I don't see Hendry trading two relievers after he put so much emphasis on it last year. Though I wouldn't mind seeing eyre and his ridiculous comments, go. And chances are after the innings he's thrown the last two years and his laid back work out regiment, he's due for a bad year. I just can't see both going I could see a heilman for one of marshall, mateo, marmol plus Eyre.
  8. typical cubs move. Don't go for the guy that can have the biggest impact go for the one that is the cheapest, and consequently less effective. Sounds alot like burnitz instead of Beltran in 05.
  9. not according to mlb.com. His only action in the majors came with the marlins this year. maybe your thinking of someone else.
  10. he was repeating at double A and when brought up to triple A for a handfull of starts he stunk. I could be wrong but thats how I remember it at least.
  11. we could play barrett at third ala Brandon Inge. And get a good defensive catcher with a bit of offense in Benji Molina. Pros: barrett has played third before and can probably handle it. His power numbers will also go up with the switch from behind the plate. A defensive minded catcher with good game calling skills will help our young staff and cut down on stolen bases. Cons: Barret and Molina would not match the current combo of Barret and Ramirez. We'd have to go get C. Lee and one of Soriano, Mike Cameron or Gary Mathews jr to give Derek Lee some protection in the line up. That would also lead us to trade murton, which would suck because i like his approach. After all that we'd still have a pitiching staff to fix. Final assesment: too much work for an off season. the only way we could contend next year if aramis leaves is if some prospect steps up big time. I don't have faith that jim could accomplish all of that at once. If aramis does indeed leave jim needs to keep his eye on prize and that is pitching. Get the pitching staff set first and then get a bat or two via trade.
  12. how about ron jackson, former red sox hitting coach, as out hitting coach?anyone know anything about him?
  13. seems like the minor leagues are littered with guys like this. Another one time top prospect trying to regain the form that made him a prospect in the first place. Good for him though to keep trying. I 'd also like to see Tampabay's Josh Hamilton get to the majors one day, he's another interesting story.
  14. Saito http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFZSsosZek8 interesting. rears back and actually touches 93mph or 150 km at one point but generally works in the 87-90 range. Nasty curve though only shown once at 115km or 70 mph. good change and has that fork ball working well. Changes speeds very well.
  15. yeah, why not. Maury wills spent alot of time in the minors as did Podsednik and dave roberts (I believe). speedsters need to perfect their game as best as possible but I guess that goes for any one dimensional player.
  16. did he come on yet? because I started listening around 8:00pm
  17. Even more so that should help with guys like marmol, mateo, reyes, and eventually pie. Sometime just hearing something in your own language can help especially for the young guys.
  18. I don't think Hendry will depend on him to be anything more than a fifth starter. I know its hard to have confidence in our gm but he would be ignorant to count on prior until he can finish a season without a freak accident or chronic ailment.
  19. I'm not opposed to rothschild coming back but I'd rather him be a bench coach or something else than the pitching coach.
  20. I think he'll sign no matter who gets him. When irabu was posted the padres had the winning bid. However, he refused to play for anyone but the yankees. ANd he was eventually traded to the yanks for a bunch of players. it must have been a sign and trade. IF he didn't sign a deal seibu would be really unhappy with him, they need that posting money.
  21. and he'll only be 21 for the 07 season so those numbers are big. I'd like to see him in right or left field though if he can handle it. I'm not convinced with our corner outfielders up and down the organization so it might be a good idea to get some more talent out there.
  22. link http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/whitesox/chi-0610150205oct15,1,7260701.column?track=rss forty days seems like an awful long time to gather bids. I wonder if he is right about that? Looks like this could drag out for a couple months before any team can officially have him under contract.
  23. not if jim hendry takes two weeks to make every decision. hopefully lou's assertiveness will rub off.
  24. link http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/cubs/97340,CST-SPT-cub15.article scroll midway down Not sure if this means that hendry has made up his mind but it sure looks that way. I think most of us could agree that Kranitz was big advantage of hiring girardi
  25. do you know who handles the bids? and is the posting bid ever public knowledge? Basically is there anything in place ensuring the honesty of the system? Its cynical but I could see an east coast team given a heads up on who bid what and I could also see a franchise that is an up start or is in dire need of revenue the leg up to make sure it suceeds. conspiracy theories I know, I know
