  1. not that I wanted this guy in anyway shape or form. But, its a little disheartening seeing other gm's make moves while Jim sits on his hands.
  2. well since aram is gone maybe they'll trade matz to us in a sign and trade. I know I'm grabbing at staws here.
  3. Every major newspaper has said that our pay roll will be right around 120 million for next year. So let take a look at what could transpire with that amount of money. Add in hill, wuertz, murton, theriot, and other young players it would be safe to say that we are under 70 million right? So that leaves 50 mil. We could probably have had ramirez at 15mil for 6 years with the hometown discount. That leaves 35 mil. And maybe zito for the same at 15 for 5. that leaves 20. One of ted lilly, randy wolf or gil meche for 10 million for 4-5 years (depending on who) and that leaves 10 mil. Gary mathews, 9 million for three years. 1 million left and the possibility to make a trade which may or may not push the team slightly over budget. So what is the problem is my math incorrect? We could have ramirez, zito, another starting pitcher and mathews jr. Thats a pretty good upgrade from last year especially if a trade goes down. At the very least we would be competitive in our division. Thats why I don't understand why hendry is being so frugal with the dough. Bad teams have to over pay and right now we are a really bad team. It doesn't make sense, unless our payroll is going to the be same as last year.
  4. maybe the move back to the National League will help Beltre. Plus he only turns 27 this year so he is just now coming into his prime.
  5. also I heard earlier in the week that Lou will be on the final word tomorrow night. I think it will come on sometime during the bears/giants game.
  6. Wait. We will wait while Jim Hendry moves at a snails pace to address the newest hole in the line up that he created. I am really looking forward to a season of Lou Piniella but if he quit tomorrow it would be down right hilarious.
  7. apparently he got hurt. At first I heard he was dropping out of some off season competition, I assume it was vs the mlb all star, to get ready for the posting process. ANd I read he was saying his shoulder or something else was hurt to get out of it. But now it seems like he is hurt. It sucks because after watching video of all the japanese pitchers he was definetly second best to Matsuzaka, even though he had a better year than Matz did. I'm not so sure about Igawa. He more than any other japanese pitcher is on the decline since winning 20 games a few years back. ALso seems to have control issues
  8. just posted on rotoworld: "A baseball official with knowledge of the process said Thursday that the Rangers made a major bid for Daisuke Matsuzaka, perhaps close to $30 million. It's hard to believe we still don't know who won the rights to Matsuzaka. There have been rumors the Seibu Lions were disappointed with the amount of the winning bid and were contemplating not accepting it. However, if some team did go above $25 million, there's no way the Lions are turning it down. Along with the Rangers, the Yankees, Red Sox, Mets, Cubs, Diamondbacks and Indians are believed to have bid on Matsuzaka." pretty much more speculation. But it does give credit to some of those earlier rangers rumors.
  9. Funny thing I always thought it was a glove never noticed the MB, but then again I nver really looked closely at it. I think we could use a uniform change, too. Keep the pinstripes of course and the road greys but change the alternate home jersey. Get rid of the walking cub logo its lame. Go back to the dark navy shirts with the "C" and the bear with the bat or the brown pinstripe that they have worn in the past.
  10. and who would that be? Chris Snelling? he hit 216 in AAA. he is a long shot to be their starting right fielder. Ichiro said in many published reports that he will move to center if the get another big bat. Jeremy reed is no longer an option and either is snelling. So if you are thinking of someone else I'd like to know
  11. jones is from SanDiego and they are going to need a left fielder when dave roberts leaves. Plus they need more power with brian giles power shrinking. the only problem is they really don't have anything that we want. Most of their prospects are terrible. I would've said barfield but he is already gone. Linebrink+? Doesn't look like a fit. The Mariners are also looking for a right fielder with Ichiro saying that he will move to center next year. Again they really don't have anyone we want that they would be willing to trade. The mets got won't resign cliff floyd and some say they aren't ready to hadn the job to lastings milledge. I've also heard that he may be traded for pitching, etc. But may be they would want jones we could get Heilman plus minor league talent, if that is the way we are going to go. I think he would be farely easy to trade due to his relatively small contract which seemed too expensive at the begining of last year. go figure
  12. if those rumors were really being broadcast on Espn radio stations another site like espn.com or rotoworld would have picked it up.
  13. This may be way beyond Hendry but here is what I would do: 1). pay ramirez to stay 2). sign drew to play centerfield 3) sign/trade for two pitchers. Matsuzaka & Meche sound good to me Another option would be to trade for the Sheff in right field and then trade jones for pitching. I know Ramirez is asking for a lot of money and that Drew will be doing the same but bad teams sometimes have to over pay to get good, which is exactly what the tigers did.
  14. nilodnayr, where did you hear that rumor from? I've tried to read almost every page in this thread but maybe I missed one.
  15. yeah I read that rumor last night so I don't think it is true either. If the winning bid were 27 mil they would have accepted it yesterday. The longer it takes the better chance we have because that means they are probably mulling a low ball offer. Maybe, just maybe, hendry tried to make a low bid but everyone else bid even lower.
  16. paul sullivan contradicts himself everyother day. Its all speculation at this point.
  17. I always wondered if it had anything to do with his diving catch in the WBC. I know he sat out a game or 2 afterwards complaining of soreness. Not sure if it was the same wrist though.
  18. Someone who uses this site submitted that as a joke to show how 'credible' the place is. And no it was not me
  19. maybe they are not true because its no longer on mlbtraderumors any more. It wouldn't be the first time that site has jumped the gun and probably won't be the last either.
  20. mlbtradrumors says that: this web site is not all that reliable but it wouldn't surprise me. Has any one heard Bruce Levine on am 1000 to confirm this?
