  1. One of the only reasons I would be tempted to play Pie is because next years crop of outfielders is so deep. If he plays decent enough than stick with him if not make him a platoon partner because he has always hit rightys pretty consistently. Then we can decide whether or not to go after an outfielder while the market is flooded or stick with pie. At the very least you'll get great defense in an outfield that needs a great defender at center. Of course if there was a way to upgrade at ss it would make it a lot easier to play pie.
  2. Lofton actually had a falling out with Sosa, and patterson was coming off of the injury and was the cf'er of the future. My guess was it was a little bit of both that made him leave. If anyone is going the maximise pie's potential its going to be the guy who helped develop A Rod and took Griffey's game to the next level. Piniella will do whats right for Pie.
  3. I agree, I think that guzman may very well have a break out season next year. My concern is that he wont have a spot to perform though. I get the feeling that Wade Miller will be in the 5th spot no matter what Guzman does. And numerous sources suggest that Prior won't be ready until may which means july. As for Marmol he deserves more credit. He has only been a pitcher for three years. Before that he was a catcher/outfielder.
  4. I wonder how they will shuffle the rotation. typically you don't want two lefty starters going back to back but right now it looks like z, lilly, hill, marquis, and miller/prior/guzman/mateo. Maybe hill and lilly are different enough to go back to back
  5. didn't lofton make the last out with the indians, giants, cubs and yankees in their post season runs?
  6. I think lofton's arm is a little better than pierre's. He seems a lot more accurate and also hits the cut off man on a fly. Ilove that lofton walks and just flat out gets on base. He knows his role well and is a much better base stealer than Pierre.
  7. who? or you could sign lugo, trade izturis plus a reliever for Wily mo pena and install him in center. Jones for jennings sounds great to me. all in all we'd be getting pitching and boosting the obp.
  8. Its my belief that in a lot of cases the agent is more interested in the money than what is best for his client. Case in point scott boras and pretty much any deal he does. A lot of the players seem far removed from the dealing that goes on. A week ago when soriano took his physical a guy asked him if he got his no trade clause and he didn't even know. You would think that would one of the first questions that he'd ask his agent. Its just like real estate the agent drive ups the prices to get the most for his 2.5-5%. Plus you have teams bidding against each other. I'm fine though with guys like Alfonso getting the money its better than letting the owners keep it all.
  9. other than the fact he seems like he might be a prettty good relief prospect they probably view him as a guy who can pal around with Daisuke Matsuzaka and communicate with him normally, as in not through an interpreter. Maybe the transition period will be easier with someone he knows or someone in the same situation as him.
  10. I was all for matsuzaka but knew we wouldn't get him. As for Igawa he would have been nice to have but the guy I really liked was Kazumi Saito. He beat Matsuzaka in era and I believe won the Japanese version of the Cy young too. last I heard was he had some arm soreness, but some news outlets speculated that he was making it up so he wouldn't have to play in the mlb allstars tournement. I wish I knew what was up with him because he was very polished in the video I have seen.
  11. maybe the guys on xm homeplate got confused. During any other week the bids would have been due last thursday, with the acceptance coming today. But according to rotoworld the mlb offices closed for thanksgiving and reopened today which is why the bids were due today. Unless the team offering Igawa up has already agreed to accept the highest bid than we probably won't know until after thursday.
  12. Its 5pm east coast time, any announcement?
  13. how are bynum and coats still on the 40 man? Or even dopirak for that matter. I hope that bynum and coats don't end up being part of the 'young bench' that Lou wants to go with.
  14. sure, but other teams probably have more to offer for him. Unless they want jones.
  15. you're right as per rotoworld 10/18/06
  16. With theriot's approach like murtons he will be successfull offensively. I'm not sure his arm is strong enough to play short though.
  17. yeah my guess is that wells will cost someone a lot to be a rent a player next year. The Jays will probably wait until the trade deadline unless they are blown away. Interesting thoughts on Baldelli, he still so young though and thats why hes tempting. But I'd take any outfielder off of tampa's hands. Crawford, Dukes (if he's healthy just had knee surgery), Young, Upton (assuming he is ends up in the outfield. I've got to believe they trade one of those guys this year. But as for pie I wouldn't mind his defense in center but he'd probably hit .250 with 10 hr's and 150 k's. He is an exciting player though and if we get to upgrade at ss and some starting pitchers he would be a low cost move in center. I also wouldn't mind him studying under Kenny Lofton, but I'm not sure Kenny is the teaching type.
  18. nuff said. I assumed he wasn't much but had to ask.

  20. I already said this in another thread but why not Vizquel? The giants have already talked about shopping him in the right deal. He's old but depedable and in good shape. Doesn't have much power but he still can steal 20+ bases and hit for average and walk as much as he k's. And everyone knows about his glove. What would it take to get him, an outfielder? Maybe there is a larger trade to be made with sanfran.
  21. Also if we get someone decent to put at short I wouldn't be opposed to pie in center. Wilkerson would be a nice if his shoulder was really the problem and is fixed. He might just be one of those 'genius' signings for a gambling gm.
  22. I'd be okay with lofton. For drew almost the same thing applies. Don't get me wrong he's a far superior hitter but it'd be hard for me to believe that drew wouldn't get injured playing center. Ironically hasn't been a full time centerfielder since 99 like jacque. the difference he does have more experience atthe position and that he is a far superior fielder. If we got him and stuck him in center I wouldn't complain. I'd also be cool with wells or baldelli in center if a trade could be made. What I personally want to happen is probably unrealistic. I think we need an upgrade at short. Lugo, Tejada, ??? someone who can get on base. And not get injured. Izturis very well may bounce back but the little time he has spent here has been fruitless. I've read that the giants would trade Vizquel in the right deal. Even though he's old hes dependable and gets on base, etc. And after we upgrade at short I want someone with a hose in center and a quick first step. Someone who will take controll in the outfield. Even though soriano improved in the outfield last year my guess is that he'll still have some adventures, and murton isn't exactly perfect. So yeah someone in center, short. I think that jones still has pretty good value and combined with say sean marshall could get us something to fill one of our holes.

  24. Thanks, I'll re-post that in the Cubs shopping jones thread where a couple of people have been arguing that jones should and can play centerfield.
  25. he plays 80 games away from boston too. I wonder if there is a way to find out how many assists he had away from boston. But again I've seen him hose a guy first hand at the cell so I have no doubt about his arm .
